I need some words of encouragement not to binge!!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm home alone today because it is a snowday. The temptation is there to just eat everything in the kitchen. I need some phrases to run through my mind to stop me from bingeing today and any other time i get the urge to binge. I really need to lose weight and every time i try, bingeing gets in the way of my goals. Thanks in advance!!:D

Im definetly no expert as I struggle daily my self, but what does work for me is truely taking a moment before im about to eat something. And I think to my self..do I need this?...And most of the time I dont and I often have to so this a few times an hour but it works if you truely think of how you feel...how your going to feel.

When I get those CRAZY urges to just eat anything in sight I brush my teeth and chew a minty gum (everything tastes horrible after that) and keep busy clean, go shopping, excersice, heck take a nap if you have to, read a book anything.

Just rememebr every hour that you are successful is a huge accomplishment.

Good luck!

UGH I knwo what you mean. I live at home and commute to medical school so when i am home all dy doing work (which is often) the temptation is so bad I sometimes have to drive to barnes n nobles or starbucks just to get away from it. Some helpful stuff I learned though is:

1) stay in your room or far far away from the kitchen for as long as possible

2) keep the tv (if you can)...if i get distracted watching tv or movies it can be for hours

3) shower and get ready for a while, even though its a snow day, you can do your nails and toes for tomorow

4) make something that requires a looong time for lunch. like a really complicated salad chopping lots of veggies, grilling chicken, etc. etc.

i would give you things to say to yourself, but for me, even the thought of NOT eating makes me want to eat. better to just avoid thinking about it alltogeteher. hope this helped and happy snow day!

no matter what you do today the hours are still going to pass and you're going to be getting in bed at the end of the day with whatever you did behind you. imagine how you'll feel crawling into bed having binged (sick? disappointed? guilty? angry? upset?). now imagine how you'll feel if you've got through the day eating healthily (proud? happy? peaceful?). it's your choice! :)

also remember that the satisfaction that the food will bring is only TEMPORARY but feeling healthy and happy is something you can carry around with you all day.

Is it snowing enough to build a snowman?? I would love for that to be happening here...it's icing/sleeting here Undecidedmaybe go out and enjoy the snow and come back in for a nice hot bath/shower and make some tea/coffee/hot cocoa.  Yucky weather can have the ability to bring us down if we let it...knowing that binging will only make you feel worse you should embrace the day and take the time to take care of yourself and enjoy the snowday.

I have this problem every weekend!!!! LOL!! So this weekend , my first on this diet, I plan to have some legal snacks on hand.  Popcorn was one thought.

I am also planning on a good book and tea.  That always takes my mind off of eating.  Bored makes me hungry.  Maybe you can find a good workout on the tube - exercise seems to take the urge to eat form me.

Also breath deep and imagine a successful day and imagine the satisfaction.  that is good advise I think i will take today as well!!!

You can do it!!!

"Your body is the baggage you must carry through life. The more excess the baggage, the shorter the trip."

That's keeping me motivated....I want to be around longer for my daughter and my family! Whenever I want to binge I start cleaning my house and next thing you know a couple of hours have gone by and it's dinner time, I can finally sit and eat a health meal AND my house is clean. Mind over temptation, do not lose courage!

Well this may seem ridiculous, but I LOVE to eat snow!!!  If there's enough snow outside, go out, play and eat!!!  It's calorie free (just stay away from the yellow/green/brown/etc. stuff--lol!!) and delicious :)  You can even make low cal snow cones (a personal favorite) by filling a cup of any size with snow (you have to really pack it in there, or the liquid will melt it right away) and pour your favorite diet drink of choice over it (diet soda, iced tea and Crystal Light work well, but any beverage will do).  Use a spoon and enjoy!!!  You could have lots of these and not ruin your diet at all (but you may get chilly after a while--hahah!!!).

Someone in another thread posted to put a really bad picture of yourself on your fridge. For me, when I get the urge to eat an entire box of chocolate, I look at a picture of somebody who has the body that I could have if I didn't eat the chocolate, and it makes me really not want to eat junk.

My weight is usually around 122-123 pounds but after a binge it goes up to 126 so I feel like I've just ruined all my dieting and ended up right back at square one. So what I might do is take a piece of paper, write "126 pounds" on it in big black letters, and put it on the fridge or cupboard door. Just to remind myself of what the scale will say if I eat too much. I also try to remind myself of of how sick or stuffed I felt after my last binge.

Wow, what a good idea!!  Yum!  I hope it snows soon!

This topic is great! I am currently struggling so everyone's words will help me a lot.

Bingeing - I am familiar with. What I do is give myself a little of what it is that I am craving. I don't deprive myself of it. Just eat it in moderation. If I deprive myself of something my body is craving, I would be a wreck and eventuallly give in all the way to it. Just be kind to yourself and take it one day at a time. Your feelings are normal, just learn how to help your body cope. Good luck honey.

I agree!  I constantly need distracting from stuffing my face!  I feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only one that struggles with this :)

Also, I put food out of site in the kitchen, or give it away to neighbors or kids.

This wont help for today, but in the future I find if i don't buy the stuff i like to eat in mass quantites (like chips) then when I am stuck at home and wanting to eat something bad, I can't because it's not there!

as for today, try and keep as busy as possible :)

The food diary really will help.  Yesterday I binged on crackers instead of having just one serving.  I was so embarrassed when I looked up the calorie count.  It was such a waste and that mistake made me go over my caloric limit of 1200.  I may make other mistakes but I will never make that particular one again.  If I do, I will eat a hat! Cheers!

You can do it!

1. Make it a personal challenge to not binge FOR JUST THIS ONE DAY. One day at a time, or one hour or one minute.

2. Do something different, I find that the urge to snack comes when I am sick of doing whatever task I am at (like studying). Take a break and do something... anything. Clean a drawer, write in your journal, take a shower, take a walk, read, watch tv, exercise, have a nap and don't beat yourself up for taking a break from whatever it is (you are supposed to be) doing.

3. Phone someone and chat or make plans to do something (then you can picture yourself looking fabulous while doing it)

4. Dig deep and find out what feeling the urge to binge is masking, then address that. Angry for no reason? Punch the crap out of a pillow.Bored? Get a fun hobby that you enjoy.

5. Count your successes and pat yourself on the back.

Good luck! If you avoided that binge for one day, then you can do it again!
