A much-needed indulgence at McDonald's

Quote  |  Reply

Preface:

I love McDonald's to death (spare me the lecture). But I've avoided it for over a year now because I'm trying to be a good girl. But I had a McDonald's gift card and I was feeling lazy tonight and fighting a losing battle against my sweet-tooth. So I tried something new, and....

I just thought you all should know that McDonald's Apple Pies are orgasmic, and I can't believe I put off trying them for so long. 2 pies for a buck, and the smell and taste and everything were perfect. I felt like I was snuggled up in my room on a chilly autumn day with some hot apple turnovers or something. One of the best moments I've had in weeks (maybe months), and worth every calorie (though at only 250 cals, they were not as diet-shattering as I thought they'd be).

Like, I'm not even exaggerating. I want to make love to those pies. And bear their children. And then eat the resulting baby pies.

It's lucky that I was in my jammies already or I might have gone out and bought a few dozen more. :P

do you eat baked or microwaved apples with cinn cause its really just as good, and mch less calories, perhaps you could wrap it in something to give it that apple pie feel.

I was JUST looking for recipes like that!!  :D

I'm thinking of trying Hungry Girl's recipe for it. I'm an idiot when it comes to cooking (truly, I ruin EVERYTHING), so do you have a specific and very detailed recipe by any chance?

Hahaha!  You should have tried them when they were still deep fried!

I love their apple pies too.  Really the only thing I ever get at Mickey D's.

They are still really tasty, but they seem to have less filling now and they used to be freshly deep fried for you so that everything was hot and crispy and ridiculous.  Yeah, it was excessive, and I'm not even one for fried food, but the crispy sugary shell filled with the gooey sweet apples was just irresistible.

hahaha I thought you were going to say you went whole horse and got the whole meal.

Whatever, I think you're allowed to have treats every once and a while!  I love the sauce on their chicken burgers... I think it's the devil!

once in a while i get a "no-burger" which is a cheese burger without the meat patty.  So good and not awful for the waist line! mmmmm  cheese and condiments!!!

oh my..i thought i was the only one who was in love with these things...i used to eat them ALL the time, i would eat both of them in fact and once i even tried to convince my mom to get them for thanksgiving...she didn't buy it...haha. they are sooooo delicious.

even if you had a pie with a kiddie cone for apple pie a la mode it would only be 400 cals, that with one of their salads would round out your ending meal at about 600-650 cals tops...that's 1/3 of your day...

so if you had a regular breakfast and lunch at 300 cals each that's 600 cals

2 snacks at 150 cals each that's 300 cals

plus your 600-650 for dinner and dessert...and you're only at 1500 for the day...not too shabby at all so it fits if you ask me

Oh my god I LOVE McD's apple pies...they are the quickest way to get that apple pie taste!  Now was it 250cal for the both of them or for just one?  Cuz usually my mom would take me through the drive thru and I'd ask for the apple pies and eat one while it was hot and take the other one home for later.  I like sweets but I'm not a sweet junkie...I do have a rather low tolerance compared to some people.  It'd be awesome if I could get a modest burger or something and close it out with one apple pie...all from the dollar menu and not enough calories to make me cry!  Splendiforous!! :)

prinzessin:  250 calories per pie, unfortunately. But compared to a slice of cake or "real" pie for dessert, that is a bargain.

chrissy1988: Hahaha, you've put a LOT of thought into this, haven't you? I ended up just making the two apple pies my dinner (500 cal total, perfect for a dinner), since the only other thing I eat at McDonald's (aisde from breakfast) is the fries, I couldn't exactly add on something "healthy".

aimeelerue: I've tried that, but it's too expensive. It's easier to use my low cal english muffins and cheese at that point to just make it at home. I'm sure it's better with all the fixings at McDonald's, but without the meat it's not a good bargain, you know?

kassy: I restrained myself from getting a whole meal this time, but usually I get tons. It's why I have to avoid the place. I wind up with at least 2 or 3 large fries and a McFlurry. Often more.  The only reason I couldn't splurge was because I'm poor and was just using up the last bit of change on a gift card.

kayola: Thank god they weren't deep-fried. That sounds delicious, and I would have not been able to resist eating too many. But they were really hot and crispy and mine had enough filling, so I got lucky I guess. :)

hehe I also break in to Mickey D's every now and then. I like their fruit and yogurt parfait, its pretty big and its a dollar...its like 170 calories :)

I haven't eaten their burgers in awhile though, I kinda cringe at counting the calories after a big mac + fries =_=; sigh. I used to eat it all the time~

I also heart McD and other fast food chains to death. I've not had their apple pie before though. =o I've had the hershey pie thing, I don't know which chain it's from, but it was really good.

Yes...Apple Pies at McDonalds are orgasmic!  They are my favorite dessert of any fast food chain.  I also worked there for 2 years and that was the one thing that I never got tired of!  They also have pumpkin pies around Thanksgiving and sometimes seasonally cherry pies, all very good!  Part of my problem is my sweet tooth!  I've been avoiding the apple pies lately thoughFrown

Also FYI to cptbunny the Hershey pies are at Burger King and are very yummy as well....geesh...I know way to much about fast food...guess that is why I'm here!

omg you're awesome!!! will you be my friend?? Please??

=P

Oh yeah-- I love those little pocket apple pies.  They are sooo good and really 250 cals-- who cares?  So long as it's not an everyday thing, there's nothing wrong with it IMO.  Man, do you have a Popeyes Chicken in your area??  If so, try theirs in a year (lol).  It's a pocket pie and when it comes out it is "dipped" in cinnamon sugar.  Orgazmo city baby!!Laughing
