Needing to lose 50 pounds before I hit 50.
Hello Karen,
We have a good deal in common! I'm 44, teach first grade and have 74 pounds to lose. As I'm heading back to Kentucky at the end of June, I'd like to lose as much as is realistically possible before that time. I certainly understand how it feels to be spoken of by family members!
I'm on day two and wonder how I'm going to get all this logging in done when I go back to work on the 7th. Maybe there is a way to save data on the foods we eat most often or the exercise we do everyday ( I have to walk my dog rain or shine. He's a great personal trainer!)
Please feel free to add me if you would like a new friend!
Happy New Year!
Koilady63
Hi koilady! I have an idea for your food logging dilemma. If you tag an item it is easier to find. This is especially helpful when the nutrition info isn't in the data base. I will definitely add you as a friend...as soon as I figure out how.
Happy New Year to you too!

Would love to have you as a weight loss buddy. I too have been overweight for years...24 to be exact. I never really lost the weight after my first baby. I really want to get this weight off before menopause hits. I hear that it is so much harder then. And your right, Karen is a good name.
Here's to a healthier new year for us all!
Karen
Thanks for the TAG idea Karen. I hadn't tried it yet. Does it work for food you enter yourself?
To add buddies, click on the persons name and their profile will pop up. On the upper right of the profile you will see an area to click if you wish to add them as a buddy.
Have a great evening!

MB, thanks for the info on adding buddies. The tagging works for any food item that you have already logged in...be it from the sites list of foods or the ones that you have added yourself. When you look at your daily entries you will notice a "T" to the right of the food description. Just click on that and you can create your own list of commonly used foods. It makes things alot easier. ![]()
Otherwise, how is it going for you? I sure do like this site. So far I have been eating healthier. Making healthier choices. But sometimes it is hard. Like last night my husband brought home dinner. Baked chicken breasts, rice pilaf, and a cherry pie. I didn't have any pie. Just one look at the nutrition info made me cringe. At least the chicken had no skin and wasn't salty; the pilaf wasn't a compete nutri nightmare either. Plus I added a veggie.
Better get going for the day. Have a healthy day!

Hey Karen,
I know exactly how you feel. I have been in re-admission for years with MS and am doing good. But I have gained weight and need it off. I am working on getting the weight off doing small goals and successes with me. I'm 46 years old also and am working to get the weight off by summer also. I am working to have 25 off by the end of March and the rest by the end of June. My hubby got me a clothing gift certificate for christmas and I decided to treat myself to a new outfit after each 10 pounds. So I would like to add you to my list of friends to give you and myself moral support and encouragement to you as we struggle to get thin before 50. Also fi the other people who answered you want encouragement and support, I would love to add them on my friends list and email each other too. Good luck, I know you can do it and eamil me anytime you want.
Thanks
Hi Karen,
I'm Niecie from Louisiana. I just had my 49th birthday and hope to lose 50 lbs by December 08. I've been overweight for most of my 30's and 40's. Had a total hysterectomy in '05 and actually lost about 12 lbs by healthy eating. The weight has crept up this past year (having a hard time balancing hormones) and have added about 12 lbs. I also have a bit of a thyroid problem that is not helping the situation. My lifestyle has been way too sedentary and I plan to change that fast! I am a member of Curves though I haven't been faithful to go this past year. I plan to start back tomorrow. You know us southern women love our sweets so that will be a challenge. Dad had diabetes and I know this is something I don't want. I have been saying I would lose this weight for the past 15 years but I'm truly committed to doing that this year before I turn 50.
Hi alleyfay. I know what you mean about your feet killing you. How do your feet hurt? Have you considered going to a podiatrist? I had plantar fasciitis and it sure helped me to see a doc about it. The heel pain was unbearable. But I have found that stretching and wearing proper foot wear makes a world of difference. My days of stiletto heels are fading fast.
But that is okay. I am much more comfortable in flats or tennis shoes anyway. But every now and then I still like to break out my high heels. But I am always glad to take them off.
As for shoes, I found that Ryka makes a good shoe because they are actually designed on a last that is made for the female foot, not just a scaled down version of a male's.
Maybe you just need to work into your routine more slowly? Especially if you have not ever been that active. I am fortunate because I get to go hiking in the summer (although bears kept us from hitting our favorite spots this last summer.) But keep up the effort. Maybe you could do something different. What about a dance class? I used to do belly dancing. It is fun, gets you in tune to your bod, and can increase your body acceptance. Just a thougt or two.
Hi Niecie! I am originally from St. Louis, MO with my mom being from Tennessee/Mississippi area. So I have a lot of southern in me as well, and I know what you mean by loving those sweets. I think that is why I love the chocolate soy milk. I feel like I am being bad when I am actually being very good to myself. Plus soy is supposed to be good for women who are peri to full on menopausal.
As for being southern I have one other thing to say. I once was told that there are three sexes. There are men. There are women. And then there are Southern women! I always liked that. Believe it or not I do have a Southern accent that can get mighty thick at times. One time I was standing outside of a business talking to a man from South Carolina. When we paused in the conversation, there was a young man standing there who said "Please don't stop talking. Listening to the two of you is like listening to music." I thought that was a very sweet thing to say.
Hope that your weight loss goals go well. Good luck!
Hi, Everyone!
My name is Carole and I will be 50 in September. I have over 60 pounds to lose as well. I am brand new to this site and this is my first post. I have no idea really what I am doing but could really use some support in my weight loss journey. I would like to start my 50's in a healthy and thinner body!
I am shocked at how horrible I look right now. I was stunned when I got on the scale. I knew I was heavy but had no idea how heavy. I have been in complete denial.
I would love to be on this journey with you if you would like a new friend ![]()
Happy New Year! Please help me with this site. I am a little overwhelmed with all the options! It seems great, very helpful yet a bit time consuming.
Hope to talk to you again soon, if I can figure out how to find you all again ![]()

I am 49 and am hoping to lose a few more than 50lbs before I turn 50. I to was a stay at home Mom. I have just moved to California. I found out that the town I am living in now has no newcomers group so I have been at a loss as to how to meet new friends. I think that writing to other women who like me have gone through changes in their lives could be a real help.
I am getting my knee replaced in May and I really want to have 40lbs gone by then. I would like to have 60 gone by my son's wedding in September and if I could get another 10 off by my daughter's wedding next January I will be the happiest woman you can imagine. This is my first time posting on any site but I do believe we can all be great help for one another.
Hi MWood!
Welcome to California
I just added you as my buddy, hope that's okay
I really don't know the etiquette of adding buddies, if you have to ask permission first? If I did the wrong thing, you can remove me! I am brand new to this whole thing and obviously do not know what I am doing ha! Feel free to add me as your buddy if you wish.
I was a stay at home Mom for a very long time and it is a wonderful job but sometimes a bit isolating, especially if you are new in town.
My daughter just got married in June and I just became a grandmother so I know about lots of changes. Losing weight is tough, let's support each other. I just started this journey and could use a friend to encourage me to not FAIL this time.
Sounds like you have goals for your weight loss. How are you doing on your eating and exercising? You are having knee replacement surgery? I have knee problems but not to the point of surgery I don't think, who knows? I need to get this weight off to ascertain that.
Have a great day. I don't know where you are in CA. but it is rainy where I am in the Central Valley.

Hi, My name is Michelle I am kind of slow on how all of this works. I just sent a reply without any content . I can't send any more letters but trash the oreos. Think of all transfats. We will be 50 and wonderful.
Hi Michelle ![]()
I didn't eat the oreos, thank you for the support. We have to take baby steps right?
Thank you for your encouragement Michelle. I appreciate it!!
What do you have for snacks?
I found these snickers marathon energy bars. They aren't real chocolate but they aren't badand they have their protein and carbs balanced. I have been reading the insulin resistant diet and trying to follow no more than 20 carbs at a time and with those 20 carbs you must have at least 10 of protein. I have only been doing this for a few days but I think I might be less hungry. Thank goodness apples are on the good list with them or I would be in trouble.
My daughter is getting married in Mexico near Cancun. We were there last week and found a great location for the ceremony and all the activities. My son is getting married in Boulder. they went to college there and couldn't leave. Talk to you again Michelle
I really think that this diet will work! I hope so! I have been afraid to go look at the scale. I am sure if I can't see some change I am going to be really depressed.
Carol I was able to add you as a friend when you added me but today I don't see how to add other friends.
I need to get going I have to have blood work done before I eat and I am starving
