All my snacks end up on the sweet side... muffins, shakes, yogurt. I want something salty and filling. I'm heading to the store in about an hour and a half.

Tomorrow I will bring cucumber and southwestern ranch dip made with yogurt (15cals/Tbsp)

But today I'm SOL!!

My snacks had been enough for the last few weeks but I've pumped up my exercises and now I need moooore! I have been so hungry this morning!

I sometimes buy individual pieces of cheese & pair them with an apple or pear for a nice snack.

A handful (~20) raw nuts + fruit does the trick too. My faves: almonds, cashews, walnuts

Those are my EXACT favorite nuts!! the only ones I eat! lol Yeah think I'll get some of those.

Do you use a low fat or low cal cheese? I haven't been eating much cheese cause it seems too hi-cal hi-fat.

I buy Kraft LiveActive cheese which is full fat but since it's individually portioned, it's the perfect snack size... only 90 calories & 5 g protein. Low-fat usually tastes like plastic.

Chick peas sprinkled with Parmesan...one of my favorites!!!

Make some homemade pita chips out of whole wheat pita pockets.  Very easy and fast and you can sprinkle them with salt or a few sunflower seeds before baking them.  Delish!

I ended up with some celery and laughing cow. After a wedge of that and a big ole salad with chicken, I'm feeling much better! Man was I hungry. I did lower body circuit training today and didn't think it was that big of a workout (although I WILL be sore!) But I ate up all my afternoon snacks this morning and was still hungry!!!

I adore prosciutto di parma with a pear, maybe it's too sweet for you but the saltiness of the prosciutto with the juicy freshness of the pear is just divine.

There is a good snack recipe in a cookbook I have:

22 dry roasted unsalted almonds

1 Tbsp dark chocolate chips

2 Tbsp raisins

yummy!

I agree about the low fat cheese thing; it tastes like salty plastic.

I have 2 ideas:

1.  celery or carrot sticks/baby carrots dipped in salsa (sooo good, but if you use a lot of salsa, make sure it's low-sodium because it can be very high in salt)

2.  pickles!   My new love.  They're sooo good and low-cal.  See above about sodium advice though

re- low fat cheese:

there is a lower fat jarlsberg cheese that come in at 70 calories an oz. it does not taste like plastic, it tastes like jarlsberg. i like it.

laughing cow, as mentioned above.

low fat (rather than the non fat, which is gross) for sour cream, cottage cheese, and cream cheese are all yummy, and good substitutes for higher cal ingredients (mayo, regular cheese) in sandwiches, dressings, etc, plus snack easy, so i like to have at least one of them in the fridge. i think the low fat sour cream is the most decadent tasting and lowest cal of the three. it makes me feel like a sinner when i eat it! and only 30-40 calories for 2 tbsp, depending on the brand. its good.

my other snack on the savory end is left over fish, a meaty white fish, like tuna or halibut. i always cook a bit extra and eat it in 2 oz servings as snacks the next day.

have you tried the kale chip recipe thats circulating around here? they are surprisingly wonderful! non-calorie counting friends agree.

wash kale and pull it into chip sized pieces, mix with a tsp +/- olive oil and some balsamic vinegar. lay out flat on a cookie sheet, put in the oven at 425 for about 10-15 minutes, until crispy. they are excellent. just make sure you don't wander off and leave them unattended, as the line between done and charred is very thin. (my oven runs hot tho, so time and temp are estimates).

Hummus and pita or veggies

They have 100 calorie pack nuts and you could add fruit

String cheese is naturally lower in fat with whole grain crackers

I too like laughing cow

Peanut or almond butter on what ever you like

Though it is not sweet or salty but is high in protein greek yogurt

buy Spike seasoning. it is soooo perfect for anything to be turned savory/salty

add it to basically anything

my favorite is rice and beans and broccali with spike

or oatmeal with a scrambled egg with spike
