Soccer is love. Hence my name =D
lol yay! whereabouts do you live? And do you have msn messenger?
Haha I live in central jersey (girl's soccer is EXTREMELY popular here) and ackkk msns one of the few things I don't have. I have AIM and Yahoo messenger though =)
ill help :) i need to get in shape for lacrosse
So, I'm curious, what level of soccer are you trying to be a starter in? And what position do you play?

And...I play lacrosse too =) I have that this spring too.

Hey I play varsity soccer for my school. I try to eat right and I play twice a week now in the winter. I start midfield, but I would rather play forward but my coach puts me on mid. If either of you wanna talk go ahead and message me!

Yeah I just want to give you a heads up, I'm a goalkeeper, so it's a tad differnet for me.

I was a JV player this year and I play on a well revered travel team.
Last year I was on JV. This year, since all our star players were seniors and they've all moved away, I would love to be a starter as a striker. But whatever coach puts me as is fine aswell. As long as I'm playing, yanno?
Yeah I would love to play striker, I am right midfield and I thought that I ran non-stop until I played center midfield. That postition is not fun, but I only play that if the other two centermids are injured. I am a sophmore and this year I started every game but 2, which one I wasn't at. Last year when I was a freshman I started one game but I subbed (haha funy word!) in alot so I got my letter. This next year I am really going to step-it-up. Last year when I was playing I would concentrate so much on getting the ball, that I wouldn't pay attention enough to the person with the ball and I wasn't being aggressive, well at our last few games I became really aggressive and it felt god. This year that is my goal, and to get more ball time! I only scored 2 goals, but atleast I scored i suppose!

Hey, even if you scored 2 goals, that's awesome that you made varsity as a freshman, let alone played, let alone EARNED your letter (4 players on varsity this year didn't step on the field once and got a varsity letter. One was basically a JV player too. AND they actually had the balls to get varsity jackets. It's ridiculous.)

It's different when you're a goalie, because you kind of have to be patient and just wait for the older goalies to graduate before it's your turn to shine.

On the rare occassion I don't play goalie I play midfield, both outside and middle. I always felt that the outside mids run more, and the center mids was to hover in the middle, mostly. I guess it depends on what system you guys play. Do you play a 4-4-2 (4 def. 4 mids. 2 strikers), a 4-3-3, etc? Cause it differs I guess lol

well when we play a team that we know is really hard we play a 5-4-1, i know it sounds weird but it worked, any other time we played a 4-4-2. Our goalie is a really awesome player (she had 240something saves) We didn't even have a backup goalie and she played goalie every game except once she got to go and play forward cuz we were winning by so much and she was dying because she was so used to playing goalie. we didn't have a great year, but we didn't have enough subs and we would be tired, sometimes a few of us, me included would play nonstop the whole game that really sucked though.

Wow that's way different than our program. Our whole high school program has about 60 girls, and three teams (varsity, JV, freshman). We have about 6 goalies in our program, I think, me included. Our varsity team needs two benches to sit all the subs they have. Our varsity teams okay, they won probably 3/4 of their games. Our JV Team was unstoppable though, we went 17-2.

Hey I'd love to help too! I am a xc runner/track runner/soccer player and am playing for my schools jv team right now, and am also on a competitive team that plays spring/fall. Loke soccerislove, I play goalie (used to play forward/midfield, but our goalie quit). If you need any advice, just ask!
yeah i think we had like 20 girls but ofcousrse some quit and there were always some who didn't show up. there was usually around 15 or 16 girls at ech of our games, and if it is a close game our coach won't take us out much. one game i fell and got the wind knocked out of me and 2 min. later got bombed in the face with the ball and i didn't even get to go out! there were a few girls who got jv though because our coach said that to get varsity you neededto start so many ames, i can't remember how many though. my freshman year our jv team only won 1 game!! what's your faveorite team and player? mine is Chicago Fire and Chris Rolfe! do you know any drills or anything that would apply to soccer that one person can do? I try to practice on my own, but there is only so much I can do!! oh yeah and to mutenee, you should check out www.sparkteens.com along with this site ofcourse.

I don't really follow the MLS that much, but if I had to pick my favorite team it would be the New York Red Bull, because I'm from NJ. I got to watch them play the L.A. Galaxy in the summer when David Beckham first came to the MLS, the game was absolutely insane! I really watch a lot of the English Premier League though, and my favorite team is Chelsea F.C., my favorite players being Czech (their gk), Lampard, and Drogba.

When it comes to workouts for fielders I'd suggest...
- Long distance running. Before HS soccer tryouts I made sure I could run for an hour and thirty minutes at a brisk pace without stopping.
- My brother always said if you're running outside, and you live in a suburb like I do, when you go out running, jog until you pass three phone poles, and then sprint to the next tone, and then repeat.
- Plyometrics. You know, side-to-sides, karaeokes, high knees, hopping, etc.
- Juggling. It's a classic.
- For trapping, just throw the ball in the air and trap it with your thigh. Then your foot. Then with your thigh, your foot, and let it bounce. Then your chest. Your head. Mix it up.
- Just get outside and dribble around. It's the best you can do with just 1 person and 1 ball.

If you're looking for strength training...it's totally different. Goalie's do much more than fielders do. I strength train about 4 or 5 times a week.
