"negative calorie" foods?
I've heard of foods that have less calories in them than the calories burnt when digesting them. I only know a few, so does anyone have a list? I'm a frequent muncher, so they come in handy.

a lot of that list is correct, however, you don't want to munch TOO much on stuff like: grapefruit, carrots, orange, strawberries, papaya, mango, etc. because it will affect your weight loss progess.
Something like celery, lettuce-go nuts.

Talking about munching on mangoes, I have a stupid story to share ^_^
I love mangoes so much. I figured, hey, it's fruit, so it's gotta be healthy. So one summer I was eating only mangoes for dinner, and lunch too if I could help it. I did crunches at night, and my tummy was pretty flat :D. Of course, only for that summer LOL. Once the mango season was out and I started eating typical dinner again, well, tummy wasn't so flat :p Of course I was about 19 then.

What about the carrots? Is it the sugar?
Sweet_Tart -- you silly girl! Do you still eat mangoes or do you never want to see one again? haha

Aye, negative calorie foods - remember though, don't eat too many or else they won't be negative calories anymore.
i'm eating carrots right now. what's wrong with them? and thanks for the list, smartagg!
carrots have a lot of cals + sugar for a vegetable.
I have done Weight Watchers for years. When I started 6 years ago, carrots were 0 points. However, they found that people were going nuts with carrots and they weren't losing weight. Now, 1 cup of carrots is worth 1 point (approx 45-55cals).
So, yes, you have to be careful with carrots. Eat all the lettuce you want, though :)

I try to avoid the baby carrots. They have more sugar than the regular carrots. Plus there is no work done in preparing them. You spend a good 2 minutes peeling and cutting them so makes that little bit more healthy.
aaaaaah it seems there's something wrong with EVERYTHING!!
i thought carrots were all good - they range from about 25-30 cals only!

In my opinion, the idea of a "negative-calorie" food is sort of bogus. All of those foods (with the exception of a few like celery and iceberg lettuce) have calories, especially the fruits and vegetables (sugar). That, however, shouldn't deter you from eating them. They are almost all A+ foods, with lots of nutrients and good stuff in them. However, if you eat them, you should still record the calories, because you're still eating calories. The idea is just to try and avoid eating 3lbs of strawberries, because that's a lot of calories (not to mention the inevitable GI tract disaster). The lesson is to eat healthy foods, a lot of them, and take everything with a grain of salt, figuratively.

a calorie is a calorie is a calorie.
and if you're using the caloric suggestions for what you should burn on here, food digestion is all ready counted in there. so say you burn 2000 cals/day.... some of those cals go to digestion.
i agree with rob. eat your veggies, but count them, because it is possible to eat really healthy and still gain weight if you are eating too many healthy foods.

carrots arent bad,all the benifits of them weigh out any badness by far,and its sugar but natural, they dont get your silver sppon sugar bag and sprinkle it on before they sell it,its all natural stuff and this is the sugar that is easy to digest because our body is natural in itself, like fruit that can have more sugar than a bag of sweets but which would your nutritionlist say to have!?
read nutritional labels, people!
lots of veggies and fruits are much higher in cals/carbs than others...
the only safe thing to gorge on is lettuce, kale, seaweed, and celery as far as i'm concerned. i used a freshly squeezed lemon on the lettuce for flavor.

i suppose when people say, oooh these foods you dont need to count and u just have as many as you want, they mean in moderation still, like obviously not having fifty plates a day,but just if you need something then this would be fine as an odd thing to have an not worry.
I find mangoes quite high in calories, for the amount they fill you up. Better than a lot of other things, but all the same, I would certainly never think of it as a "negative calorie" food. In fact, I have a bit of a phobia of eating them, as I watched "Celebrity Overhaul" a year or 2 back, and one of the celebs reached for a mango at breakfast and the trainer slapped her on the wrist and made them eat something different.
