i'm trying a negative food diet..does pineapple sounds negative to you all?

Pineapples are very positive foods....  Wink

If a 'negative food diet' is trying to convince you that you should only eat certain foods/drinks on the basis that they take more calories to chew and digest than they contain..... run.    There are crash diets, there are fad diets and there are downright dangerous diets.   But there are no negative foods.

this "negative food diet" really doesn't sound very safe or wise at all, please reconsider doing it.

a diet isn't something you're on, it's something you have. this diet you're describing is clearly just a temporary crash-diet, and as soon as you stop, all the weight you lost (the wrong way) will come back.

and by the way, pineapple isn't negative.

also, from your profile i can see that you're 5'5" and 120 lbs, and therefore shouldn't be trying to lose weight at all. you're at a very nice and healthy weight (yet slender) and believe me, you want to stay at the healthy weight you are now.

i suggest you talk to your doctor about the way you're feeling about your body, and maybe he could recommend somebody like a counselor who could help you to like your body a little more.

no foods have negative calories.  that's a marketing myth

Pineapple - Yum.

Negative foods - no such thing.

the negative calories that i meant is the energy that is needed to digest is higher than the energy from the food..so does a pineapple has a higher digesting energy?

eerica : i never have a doctor since my family never really supports me in my weight loss..I been self-doctoring and i know its a healthy weight but not a healthy look when there's a large tummy flab..

If you have a larger tummy than you would like but you're not overweight you don't need to lose weight.   Instead, try to increase the amount of natural wholefoods in your diet and drink more water.... and reduce any processed/unnatural foods, preservatives, salt, caffeine, alcohol, fizzy drinks etc.  Fluid retention is a big cause of a wobbly tummy in an otherwise very slim person (which you are).    Exercising can also help tone up the muscles.  Not eating enough can lead to muscle wastage which makes a tummy look worse than it might.

BTW Talking about energy needed to digest foods is a bit like talking about the energy needed for the heart to pump blood round the body or allow the lungs to go in and out.   It's going to happen anyway as long as you're alive   Don't be sucked in by this silly idea of a diet.  Enjoy the pineapple (and a big range of other foods), watch the portions, be as active as you can ..... that's the way to enjoy life.

Gi-jane has some good advice there, if you have a large stomache it is likely down to your diet, incorporating more whole foods and looking at the ideas of clean eating would be more beneficial than these fad ideas.

Negative calorie foods and eating do not exixt, eat 10,000 calories of celery, pineapple, cabbage, whatever "negative" foods you like and you will gain weight.

As was said before, there is no such thing as negative calories.  It's a myth.  Eat a balanced diet with all food groups represented.  Be sensible and be healthy.  You're already thin enough.

A distended abdomen can be from malnutrition.

so, if you nibble cake while kayaking, would you consider that a negative food?

of course not!  it sounds to me like you're trying to eat only low-calorie-density foods, but a healthier way to go would be eating high-nutrient-density foods.  Go ahead, eat pineapple, but eat it as a part of a healthy diet.

That's not to say you should limit healthy veggies!  Yum veggies!

I don't think it's a good idea for laymen to sit around and say negative calorie foods don't exist.. that's a highly debated topic and none of you have done the research one way or the other..

However, it is certain that those foods, if they do exist, are not a proper weightloss strategy and their only significant use would be as a way to avoid over-eating, or for their nutrients.

The only "negative calorie" food I've heard of is celery because it's primarily water and it uses more calories to chew it and digest it.  I can't think of any other veggie that has less calories than celery.  So I'm afriad you might be limited to celery.

Good Luck

Hey,

I understand your worry about your body weight- I used to be where you are. My weight is borderline normal/underweight, but I have a belly and other areas of fat that made me want to lose weight. After being a member here for a few weeks, I have realized that it is my body SHAPE, not my weight, that I am unhappy with. From your picture, it looks like you are very, very thin. I have been eating about 1800 calories a day and working out regularly, with a focus on weight training that will help build muscle in those problem areas. I was skeptical at first, but my tummy is already going away. Diets are NOT sustainable- you will just end up bingeing on the calories that your body needs for survival.

Good luck, and make sure to ask the wonderful people here if you are confused about anything!

I've heard that too- and I've also heard that it's only foods that are primarily made of cellulose that are "negative calorie," since your body has a really hard time digesting cellulose. By this logic, pineapple would NOT be negative calorie. I use celery (with a bit of dressing) to tide me over when I'm not hungry but I am craving food.

Celery is not a negative calorie food.  Granted it is very low cal, but not negative calorie.

There was a crash diet based on the "negative" calorie theory about 30 years ago - anyone remember the Beverly Hills Diet.  There were days on this diet when all you ate was fresh pineapple....it caused me to require removal of my gall bladder as do many crash diets.

I highly agree with those who have commented before me, I would emphasize the exercise aspect, especially weight training to "re-sculpt" your body and eat healthy with a decent amount of calories.

Then get off your but and go tone. Losing more weight will just eat away at your muscles, then you'll have some REAL flab.

Yep, this is the only food I've heard of as well... and I couldn't live on celery unless I had a ton of peanut butter to go with it! mmmmm PB and celery...

Losing belly fat is really 90% diet and only 10% exercise.  I lost all my pregnancy belly fat from diet ALONE...when I started exercising regularly, everything else just shed off...

Increase your diet with vegetables and fruits (at least 7-9 servings a day) and increase your fiber...and don't forget to be drinking at LEAST 64 ounces of water a day.  The belly fat will start to fade away...losing weight is not the right option here.
