negatives and pickles.

ok, so i've found this kind of mind boggling.

is there REALLY such vegtables that have NEGATIVE calories? Like celery stalks? supposidly they have negative calroies`- or it burns more calories to eat them then there actually is in them.

and this morning the kids i was babysitting for wanted pickles. i noticed that the bottle said 0 calories and 0 fat. Am i missing something? Is there something in them thats terribly revolting that kills the fact that they really don't have any calories?

i dont know, these two things have been keeping me thinking this morning. I think its because im craving something really good and are trying to curb it by finding food that isnt bad for me. =/

Nope.  Dill or sour pickles have no calories.  SWEET pickles do have calories.  But they have a ton of salt.
The drawback to pickles is that they have a lot of sodium. And actually dill pickles do have calories, just not enough for them to say so on the label (which you might want to know if you're like the people yesterday who were freaking out the fact that splenda actually has 4 calories per packet). About 1 calorie a slice.

And I think the negative calorie thing is a lie. Especially since they list apples, oranges, strawberries, and other fruits as having negative calories. Fruits like these have a lot of sugar, yet they list them as negative calories. Celery is more believable because it's like eating crunchy water, but I'm not sure that even it has negative calories. However, I'm sure it has too few calories to really make a difference.
I just had to post this question even though it sounds dumb.  If pickles are listed at zero calories then you can eat them all day and not take in any calories???  This just does not seem correct.
So if cucumbers have calories, why don't pickles? Hmmm...
When I was trying to loose weight in middle school, I went through a pickle phase. I LOVE pickles and I realized how few calories they had, so I snacked on them quite a bit between meals. A few days later I realized that my fingers were fat and my pants were tight. I had gained a TON of water weight from all the sodium. It was really funny and a little sad because I had made such a good friend of dill pickles.
Legally, on food labels calories have to be reported in increments of 5's (in the US at least). So if its below 5, it can be rounded down.

 weight, not wait.

MM, pickles! I love spicy pickles. I tend to put them in a jar 3/4 full of banana peppers and let it steep for a day or two.

No... that's a popular myth. All foods, with the exception of water, will contain at least a few calories.  If you could phyiscally eat enough of the stuff, you'd gain weight even eating celery.

If you're on this website to lose weight by calorie-counting what you're really doing is creating a negative calorie day... burning up more energy in total than you eat in total .... . so for that purpose lower calorie but filling foods like celery are helpful.

I agree with everyone else who says 'watch the salt' in pickles.  The guy who thinks that it's OK to max out on the salt because he sweats a lot may find the story changes 20 or 30 years down the track when his blood-pressure starts to rise!
