Nemesis food

Quote  |  Reply
I'm eating right, but I'm not on a diet.  I'm changing the way I eat for good, so a diet won't work for me. That being said, I'm avoiding sweets and that sort of thing as best as I can.

That being said, I have approached one food the same way I approached quitting smoking: with the realization that having even one serving would put me right off track, and I'd have to start anew.  That food is PEPSI.

I have always loved the stuff (all cola's really, but PEPSI in particular). I've given it up for good; switched to Diet pops, though I try not to drink to much of those either.  I have also ensured that there isn't even any in the house. It's a sacrifice for my wife as well, but she is willing to do it. I just can't have the stuff near me, it will drive me nuts.

Anyone else have a food like this? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

omg... two words:  cotton candy.
seriously, i could eat it for every meal for the rest of my life!
First off, my nemesis food is chocolate. I have found ways to get around this problem, including these handy little 100 calorie packs with chocolate in them.

Second, be careful about the diet pepsi. I have heard and read a lot of things that say drinking diet drinks do not help you lose weight. You would better off weaning off the soda and sticking to water, tea, or juice.
ya, I tend to avoid diet pops, but I'm not willing to cut it right out. If I decide to cut pop as a whole, I might very well over do it and fall off the wagon, and go right back to PEPSI.  Diet pop may not be good for you, but it's better than the regular stuff.
I don't like the idea of making food the enemy. Food is delicious and can be good for you and healthful.

Now, I have foods that I have a potentially unhealthy predliction towards, especially chocolate, but.. chocolate is not the enemy. Chocolate is my friend, in small quantities :)

I love my secret stash of Hershey's Kisses :D
pretty much anything in the asian food category...yummmmmm

*drooling for some pineapple curry*
ok, besides chocolate (which i love), right now I'm on a huge jello and whip cream kick! Add in a few pineapple chunks, and its even yummier... (of course all sugar free)
hairgurl32,

Sounds to me like your new nemesis isn't really a nemesis at all, but rather a sweet indulgence that still allows you to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Well done.
Yes the soda ~ or "pop" ;) ~ Pepsi was my drink of choice until I changed to Coke in my 20's.  I swear every baby picture of my sis and I has a Pepsi in the background!  I was raised on it.

I used to drink a 12pack of Coke a day.  It's very hard to resist.

Very hard.

Try researching how bad it is on the web - it helped me to lessen the "bane of my existance" lure.
Those fresh blueberry muffins they make in the bakery at Safeway! The ones that are so soft and have bits of crumbly white powder on top that's sugary. SO DELICIOUS! I ate 3 one night. I just love blueberry muffins. They are evil!!
ice-cream.  any kind.  Mostly ben + jerry's.  There was a time that I ate a pint of ben and jerry's three or more times a week.

Now I get the Edy's Slow Churned...and still...I just can't seem to stop sometimes.  I don't want to cut it out all together, but I have so much trouble controlling my portions with it.  And I never get full off of it!!!  I can eat sooooooo much.
Any type of pasta with a creamy sauce like alfredo!   OMG I love it so much!
pasta, cheese and chocolate are all temptations i'm trying to avoid. today i was weak and had a some peanut m n m's...oh well. i find that if i feel denied something, i want it more. better in small quantities than binging, right?
Peanut butter is no longer welcome in my home.  I'll buy a jar with the intention of spreading it on toast. Instead, I end up baking batches of peanut butter cookies with it, thus gaining weight.  I rue the day I found that darn peanut butter cookie recipe on the Internet.
Chinese food takeout from the place down the road..... i didn't have it THAT often before because of $...but when we get it we get a huggggge meal of it (dinner for 4 which is better suited for a dinner for 6) and eat 2-3 large portions of it... mmmmm pork fried rice and egg rolls! and honey garlic ribs oh my! I try to ban the mention of it at home because once it gets in my head I have the hardest time ignoring that particular craving.
pizza with pepperoni and onions. I get it about once a month because the minute I tell myself it's off limits I drive myself nuts with cravings. I have to order a small and take out my pieces and put the rest in the fridge or I will eat the whole thing.
I think you have the right attitude.  I'm approaching this as making positive changes that I'll be able to live with forever.

Anything salty and crunchy sets me off  and makes me want to keep eating.  I haven't given anything up totally, but if I want, say, potato chips, I go down the street to a convenience store and buy one small bag of chips.  I make it hard to get more.  I've learned that buying a big bag and saying to myself that I'll weigh out 1 ounce portions, does not work because I will keep going back for more.

I don't keep anything like that in the house.
Nemesis food for me is crackers... the little cheese kind... I cant stop at one.  A serivng size is  7 crackers... Who eats just 7 of them!!? not me!!! I cant even go near that cupboard or I will scarf the whole box!
my nemesis is definitely pizza. really thick, crusty pizza with loads of cheese and greasy pepperoni and bacon. and dipping sauce (300 cals per 2oz container - eep!!)

last month, i had pizza jan 2nd, and that was the night before i changed my eating habits. i had pizza again (2 slices) at a concert on feb 2nd - i went a whole month without it. but once i tasted it again, i've been going nuts wanting it :P

that one month was REALLY hard, but i knew that if i went back to eating pizza "regularly" that i would fail in my attempts to lose weight. now, i have it at 2 times a month. feb 16th is my next pizza day :)
Mine is definately cheese, or anything with cheese on it! I don't know what it is, because it's the only dairy food I'll eat, but I'm totally addicted to the stuff!
Any kind of pizza. You could probably give me any food, call it pizza, and I'd still love it. Even frozen pizza is a problem for me. I can eat a whole frozen pizza w/o any problem.

Also, any fat and carb combination. Like cheesy popcorn, chips, etc. That's why the super bowl was such a catastrophe for me.
