Hello to all. I just started this program today. I am excited to have found this jewel. I have looked at other websites before but you have to pay an arm and a leg to join.
I am 36 years young and I am living a good life as far as having a job that I love and a fiancee that I adore and who loves me as I am.
But of course I know that I am over weight and I want to do something about it. I keep telling myself that I am just so fed up with being fat and unable to do simple tasks anymore like putting on socks with out getting of breath.
I would appreciate any advise on how the best way to utilize this website will be.
Thanks so much!
Of course, everyone is different. I would start with tracking your calories by inputting everything you eat.
I tried before making drastic changes, going straight to the 1200 calories a day etc, and that didn't work for me. I felt I was going out of my mind with starvation (turns out there's a hormone that does that). So this time, I started logging my calories and then making changes and taking baby steps. I am a vegetarian and I think I started with eating more servings of vegetables a day, then fruits, each day trying to make my meals healthier and lowering calories, more fiber, less fat. Then when I was able, I added walking and then cardio excercises, then lately weight training. That worked well for me. Since last summer, I have lost 15 pounds, but more importantly, I have made some great lifestyle changes!
Knowing yourself, what would work best for you?
Pat yourself on the back for joining. This website is awesome. I agree with jr5757, simply start by logging everything you eat, and be honest about it! You will quickly learn a lot about your daily food selections. After a few days of tracking, I would suggest to align your food choices to the food pyramid, in other words, try and get close to the recommendation for daily grains, veggies, fruits, meats, etc. After you drop 5 to 10 lbs, you'll get energy from the results and probably have a natural desire to start exercising in some way. Good luck and keep posting!
Hi,
I don't know what your goal is but, I have a big goal 80 Lb total and I'm making lots of mini goals so that I'm never too far from an accomplishment. Additionally I'm photo journaling. I did some research and found out the BMI ranges, national averages, my historic weights and added them as goals. So at any given weight I'm just 3 lbs from a goal. I can lose 3 lbs! Here's to going all the way with it!!!
Best Wishes!

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
