Welcome to CC and good luck!
Thank you, I feel like I may need it. I woke up to eat breakfast for the first time in years. I am one who normaly don't eat until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Breakfast has always been coffee for me. I don't understand how by eating more calories can help to lose weight but I'll do what the doc says! Something about by not eating regular meals the body retains that food because it doesn't know when it will get another, and by developing a natural eating habit it will help to burn it off better. (?) I don't know, but I'll try.

Welcome to CC!

I hope you'll find this site very useful as I did (or still do, heh!). I started using this site back in October 07 and have lost 27 pounds since!

And I owe it to CC ;)

Good luck! You can do it! :D

kaneese, i find it helps to think of my body as an engine and food as fuel.  i can skip meals and still run, but only at an idle; i won't be able to get much done.  by eating, i can rev higher and actually accomplish something.

i'm still working on this analogy, but you get the idea.

welcome!

kaneese -

Welcome!  I started this site about a month ago and it has really helped me.  I love it!  The support is awesome and the food logs and tools are amazing.  There is a message board on here called "find your cc twin".  You enter in your ht., wt., age, and goal weight and believe it or not, you are really close to me!  I am 5'8" (not sure what your ht is), 249 lbs, 36 yrs. old, and my goal weight is 148.  I was 265 when I started this site in December, so I'm doing pretty well - I know you will , too!  I have 101 lbs to go!  Oh, and I also have 2 teenager(ish) kids, 1 boy, 1 girl.  Cory is 20 and Ariel is 16.  I'd be happy to share any tips that I can and I know you will find a ton of great info as you go through the site.

I'm so proud of you!  I can't wait to follow your progress!

Thanks for the support! It gets really hard when you do this alone. I have lost 5 pounds this week so I guess they know what they are talking about(lol). I am very proud so far. With my health issues I can't be very active so I know it will be a slow go, but I am doing a little better every day with exercise. Thanks again for your support, it means alot!

Kaneese,

I am pretty new to this site too, but not new to working out and seeing pretty good results.  Your doctor is quite correct, not only is how much you eat important, but when you eat it. Not eating until late in the day (and I'll guess you eat a lot in the evening too) makes your body go into starvation mode.

Starvation mode slows your metabolism to a crawl and stores energy instead of burning it. I am sure your doc told you that but I can concur that doing what you are doing will work if you stick with it.

It is not a miracle, you will lose weight slowly but steadily. Eating every three hours (a small amount of good food, not a lot) and not eating after 6pm is a great way to snap your body out of that starvation mode too. That last part is really hard for me!  But not eating after 6pm will help you see results much quicker.

Hang in there and don't get discouraged if you blow it one day.

Start burnin that fat by walking or treadmill or elliptical or stationary bike. It'll help snap your body out of starvation mode. There is only one way to lose the fat, burn it. Only two ways to do that exercise and eating right...the combination of the two is the best way.

Thanks for the info. It is working, I am seeing a difference in my clothes and how the fit. Not much, but some. Again thanks for being here, it really helps to have support!
