My Fiance and I are expecting sometime in Jan. I am quite active and have been for sometime now, however my fiance is overweight and pregnant. I need some help to help her stay healthy for the baby and not put on unneccessary pounds. I do realize she has to put on some weight but I want her to do it healthy. She eats pretty good but lacks in the excercise part.

There are so many variables here that anonymous people on a message can't know about your fiance.  The best bet is to get a recommendation from her doctor.

I agree with lilminime; but if her doc says it's ok; why don't you too get a trial membership to the gym together?  it's nice to have a partner to excercise with; and motivate each other.  If you can both identify similar goals; write them down and reach them together.  be each other's support.  help to do the grocery shopping so you buy healthy foods for her.  take walks together instead of driving somewhere.  hope that helps a little!
Do you go to her doctor's appointments with her?  If you do, maybe you can find a way to ask the doctor about what exercises would be good for the two of you to do together.  My doctor suggested swimming and walking, but she'd need to check with her doctor as to what's right for her.

I'd suggest walking, though, unless her doctor says otherwise for any reason.  It's easy, and doesn't really feel like exercise.  My doctor had told me to exercise as much as possible because it will help during delivery, and I think it did.  Delivery with my son was a breeze, and I was walking about an hour a day when I'd get home from work.

That said, she may still be feeling tired, and it's hard to exercise in the very beginning.  I think most women feel exhausted the during the first trimester, and I didn't push myself to do anything when I was that tired.  So if that's the case for your fiancee, I wouldn't push her too much.  Maybe just suggest taking a walk after dinner or in the morning.  It's a start.  Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I will take your advice and work with her to stay healthy. Just for the record I go to all her appts. when I can. Dr. Nutrionist, etc.

The easiest way to get exercise as a pregnant lady is to go on walks, but make sure to bring water and a snack and if she gets short of breath to stop and rest. Or you could go swimming, I know most pregnant women are like "hell no" about getting in a swim suit but it is so relaxing and if she jogs in the water it counts as exercise, plus it will help relive the back strain to, just remember to stay out of the hot tub. Congratulations on the baby! I hope that it all goes well for her, and make sure after the baby is born she keeps eating at least every 4 hours.

pbgood, you've inspired me to go to the pool this week even though I am 33 weeks and feel like a whale!!  I guess that's what shorts are for!!  I walk a lot-  to save money on gas and I work in the city so lots of walking during the day!
