TEAM THREADS:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WINNERS THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, well these are the OFFICIAL teams for the challenge. I have decided that we will not be accepting anymore people since we already have more than enough members.

Okay, the challenge will still officially begin on Monday the 21st.

WEEKLY CHALLENGES:

Each week, one team will win the weekly challenges by gaining the most amount of points, which is equal to the percent of weight loss by your team. So, if you your team loses a total of 50 lbs, and your combined weight for your team at the beginning of the week was 2000 lbs, then you would have lost .025% of the total weight of your team. This means you would have 2.5 points, but I will make the numbers more attractive by multiplying them by 10000, so technically you would have 2500 points.

GAIN EXTRA POINTS:

One way for a team to gain 20 extra points is to win the weekly contests. The contest starting Monday May 21st is the Walking Challenge. The challenge is to first walk at least 30 minutes a day, and second to be the team with the most amount of walking minutes racked up at the end of the week. Therefore you can do more than thirty minutes of walking, and you would be doing it for yourself and the benefit of your team.

In your team thread, you will post your daily minutes of cardio everyday that you do it, and on Saturday your Team Leader will send me the tally's and I will add in the extra 20 points to the team who wins the challenge.

WEIGHING IN:

Okay, the beginning of the challenge week will ALWAYS start on Monday and end officially on Saturday. But the weigh in dates will always be on Friday and Saturday. This will give me enough time to gather the information and update it by Sunday, announcing the team that won the weekly challenge.

In order to weigh in you will post your current weight and your total weight loss on your OWN TEAM THREAD! Your team leader will then tally the total weight loss for your team and email it to me as well as the tallys for the weekly contest. Your team leader will also change "CW" to the your new current weight and "TWL" to the correct total weight loss from the start of the challenge. Your team leader will then email the new format to me and I will change the "commentary/standings" thread to reflect the new weights and weight loss.

END OF COMPETITION:

At the official last week of the competition there will be a winning team and a winning individual. The team that gains the most points, by losing the most percent of their total starting weight at week one wins the challenge. But the one person who loses the most percent of their starting weight will win the overall challenge. So that means that the winning team may not necessarily have the winning individual!

Team Threads: Each team will have a team thread in which they can just generally communicate... talk about your sucesses, frustrations, give advice, whatever. But don't forget to weigh in on your own team thread. Stay Active people.... get to know your team mates, they will help be your shoulder (as well as your family) during this challenge. Make it a point to post something on your team thread at least once a day.

NOTE: If you do not weigh in two weigh ins in a row you will be REMOVED! Dunt, dunt, duh!

WEEK 1 CONTEST (Starts May 21st): Walking Challenge. Try to do at least 30 minutes of walking a day.

WEEK 2 CONTEST (Starts May 28th): Cardio! Try to do at least 30 minutes of cardio.  Walking doesn't count! So basically that includes every machine at the gym, weight lifting, running, cycling, sports, DDR.

Week 3 Contest (Starts June 4th): Water Challenge! The team that drinks the most ounces of water at the end of the week wins. Beverages that contain less than 5 carbs and no fat per serving count for the challenge! But water in food does not count. Well, get drinking people, and remember the more you keep your body moving, the more water you will need!

Week 4 Contest (Starts June 11th): Food Group Challenge!

Week 5 Contests (Starts June 18th): Try something new challenge! The team with the most minutes of a new exercise minutes will win this challenge.

Okay, well you may have noticed that I mentioned team leaders... well, I don't have any yet, so if you would like to volunteer to be team leader THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. It is recommended that you have microsoft excel and/or corel quattro pro and know how to use them. (I only say this because of the calculations, but you are more than welcome to do them one by one.) Your duties as team leader would be to:

1a. BE ACTIVE, if you know you will rarely be on CC, please do not volunteer!

1b. Create a team thread and send me the link to it. You may also want to start up the team name discussion (preferable to have team name by Friday at the latest) , and maybe fun little things to do in the threads.

2. Tally up the weight loss of your team each week, and send me the numbers.

3. Tally up your weekly contest minutes (or other units depending on the contest) and send them to me.

4. Update the weights and total weight losses on your individual team thread and send them to me so I can update it on the "commentary/standings" page which is this.

5. Be fun and positive for your team members!!!!
Oh, and is there any confusion about anything?
I would suggest assitant captains as well. Also it's not good for me to walk a lot with tendinitis in my left knee, could we substitute that with 30 minutes of cardio.
Does the walking challenge include treadmill walking or just outof door strolls?
let the games begin.

when we have a team captain can they message me and let me know where the thread is please?
ok i am in team 4, if noone else wants to i will be the captain!!  but  agree i think we need a co- captain or whatever......team 4 should let me know if there is someone else who wants to do this!!
Need to make my goal 200 for this competition. The calculator says that 195 is too aggressive. 195 is my overall goal so getting to 200 in this will easily put me within reach of it. Then if I want to go lower it won't be much for sure because 195 puts me within 6 lbs of my bmi.
Treadmill walking and outdoor walking do count for the walking contest, but remember it doesn't officially start until Monday, so no walking that you do until Monday will count towards the contest.

Oh, and someone had requested earlier to be put into the same team with their friends... I would but I actually set the teams up so they would all be within the same weight range of each other, and that sort of took me a while to do. But calorie-count is all about meeting new people who share your struggles and supporting each other. Each of you have a VERY supportive team who will willing to get to know you, I'm sure. Plus you guys can post in each other's journals to keep in touch during the weight challenge.

Also, I think the co-captain idea is a great idea (thanks again!) so if two people volunteer to be the captain of the same team, one will be the captain and the other will be the co-captain. (You can also specifically volunteer to be the co-captain of a team) But the splitting up of the duties for the captain and co-captain are up to the team. Just make sure that I get the contest numbers and weight loss numbers each Saturday.

Captains:

Team 1: Nycolea
Team 2: (Megonjay?)
Team 3: thegrayman
Team 4: chrisbaptiste
Team 5: ginnyannb
Team 6: paganmist

Co-captains:

Team 1: N/A or me if no one wants to
Team 2: N/A
Team 3: N/A
Team 4: ktcort13
Team 5: N/A

Team 6: N/A
oh and thegrayman. NExt week's contest was actually going to be cardio (shhhh don't tell anyone), but I will make this week cardio instead. But for future reference I will probably not change the challenges or make exceptions for people. It is clear that some will have clear advantages and disadvantages in some challenges over others. But to make those extra points that could be the difference between winning the weekly challenge and not winning the weekly challenge your team will have to find a way to work around your disadvantages. That's part of the fun.
Don't change what you have going for little ole me, walking is fine, I'll just have to make do somehow. Grab the ole knee brace I hate so much. I've got a treadmill I hardly touch anymore so that's fine. I just need for my sake to make sure I burn 350 calories. I've got a pedometer that can tell me that so no biggie.

Also, since no one from my group, team 3, has spoken up guess I'll take the captaincy for our group if there are no objections.
I'm on team #2.  Not really sure where to LOOK
for my captain.  I wonder if the other teams are LOOKING for their captains?  When should I expect to see my leader post?
I would volunteer but it's too confusing for me.  I have the time and desire.  But I will participate.

If I got this right.  My Elliptical machine that I do 6 days a week
does not count as "walking" so that means I'll be adding walking
into my typical routine?  Is that right?  cool

finally, what if someone gains a little due to Tom or whatever?  I guess you just inform your captain on weigh in day if your UP on the scale.  yikes.

My final question for now would be how many weeks is this for?
It begins May 21 and runs through what?

i will be team 4's co-captain
The Competition will start on Monday May 21st and end on August 12th, which is a Sunday. That makes 12 WEEKS total.

For Captains, as soon as you learn you are a captain (not co-captain) create a team thread and mail me the link to it so I can include it on the commentary page. You might want to include the link on the commentary page so your team members can easily access it. Don't forget to add all of your team members to the thread (just copy and past from this page), and the weekly contest as a reminder. Also remember to come up with a team name.
Okay, well now I feel like a complete dumby. It seems that 50% of the people who were supposed to be in this challenge joined the 170's challenge. Okay, one more task for the team captains. Can you also message your team mates and inform  them that they are on your team and ask them if they are still interested.

Such as Congragulations you are on Team ___ of the 'New You' Challenge, are you still interested in joining?
Okay, can do.
Okay... Just checking in!  Making sure i am in the right place
bump
I'm concerned.  I don't see TEAM 2.
Monday is only 2 days away.

hey NYCOLEA....here is a good challenge if you decide to make it a challenge.  Drinking our water.  I'll master that one.

I'm concerned by the way I dont' see anything for team 2
I am also looking for team 2.
