I maintain a couple of non-weight related blogs and it would be great if anyone from here cam along on that journey as well...

Welcome, Sarah! (my name is Sarah, too :))
This community is awesome. Very supportive, extremely knowledgeable, and fun! Check out the various forums and read along, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Many will arise on this journey, I assure you! I also like to search the forums (in the top bar) for a topic to see if my question has been previously asked adn answered, or debated and see what the conclusion is. This is usually because I'm too impatient to wait for ppl to answer my own question, or maybe I just don't feel like asking. Eitehr way, thought I'd share that tidbit since I love it!
This journey will not be easy, but it will be worth it. Cherish what you learn on the way, and try not to despair when the going gets rough.
Regil, the prayers sound like a great idea! I'm a Christian, too, and would love some prayers and even a buddy in Christ on this journey. I'll be praying for you, too! Have a great labor Day Weekend, everyone!
Thank you everyone! What a lovely welcome! I hope it's OK - but I've added the three of you as buddies on here. I'm hoping that by taking 100% advantage of all of the resources on here this time will be different!!!
Can I ask - are any of you using the food tracker idea? You know...tracking everything you eat and drink? Just wondering...
Hi Sarah,
I use the food logs on this site to track my intake, and the activity log to track what I burn. I aim for a deficit of between 500 and 800 Kcals per day. I find if I don't log exactly what I eat, I tend to underestimate the calories I eat, and if I'm not exact with my activity, I overestimate the calories I burn. I think you will find the logs really useful.
The other great resource on this site is the recipe analyser, for home cooked meals.
I'm not a christian (!!) but wishing you lots of luck with your weight loss,
Ax
Hi Ax, Thanx for that input! I see from your profile that you live in London. I'm 37 as well and currently living in Surrey (though originally from the US). So...do you have to add lots of items to the food log or do you find that it has a fairly good representation of UK foodstuffs? I'm also just wondering how exact and accurate the measurements are for things. I'm probably wondering that since I'm used to using US measurements even after living here for 8 years!
In the end, I suppose I'm trying to keep things simple at the moment...a bit redundant to have the same thing for breakfast most days. But at the same time, it makes it easy to log and easy to organize for 6am when I'm not quite fully awake!
I'm going to keep in mind your deficit range as well....and using the recipe analyser! So many tools on here to get accustomed to!
Thank you again for the input...I need all the help I can get! And don't worry - I'm not Christian either but I'm very grateful for all the prayers and well-wishes!!!
Cheers all!
Sarah
Hi Sarah!
The only thing I haven't ever been able to find in the database here is an unusual type of tofu that I like, and sometimes if I buy a sandwich at a shop for lunch, I'll keep the nutritional info and enter that in (it's very simple to do). Apart from that most foods are on it, including generic Tesco, Sainsbury's ASDA and Waitrose stuff.
The measurements are both metric and imperial, and interchangable so don't worry about which you use. I have a small digital scale which I bought for about £10, and I weigh my portions. I don't much bother weighing fruit and veg, but I do weigh pasta, rice, fats, oils, protein etc. The more accurate (and honest!) I am, the more successful my weight loss.
If you eat the same thing a lot for breakfast, you can tag them together under the same heading and add them to your daily food log all together. It saves time, and you will soon build up a collection of tags and recipes for the foods you eat most often.
People here on CC are very kind and well meaning, so you will receive lots of support, prayers and good advice any time you ask for it!
Good luck,
Ax
