Hi, and welcome to CC! I'm not someone looking to lose at all (if I did, I'd disappear) but I just wanted to link you to a list of helpful tips and otherwise geared particularly towards new dieters, and dieters in the new year: An Unofficial Calorie Count Guide to a Fad-Free 2009.

Good luck with your goals!

thanks 4 that,

i tried dieting b4 the new year but didnt put my full effort into it so now im gnna try my best

Hey there, I am starting Monday! Cut Calories, and starting to do some sort of workout daily. I am not sure of my starting weight yet...I will Monday morning...but I know I am close to 300.  I have a short term goal of losing 60, but I would love to lose 100. I would like to chat and keep each other motivated!!!!

Hi I am in the same boat.  Started counting last Monday again, trying to stick with it even when I slip up.  I gained a lot in the last three years and have PCOS. I am about 5'7 282.  I would like to eventually get back to 175.  I haven't started back exercising yet- but have been trying to eat around my calories (CC says should eat 1800/burn 2800).  I'd love to have some folks to chat with/check in with :)

Hi all,  I am also one that is going to start on monday.  I am 5'7 and weight way to much. .... I want to lose 100 pounds. I have done weight watchers can't tell you how many times. So now I am just trying to cut out the sugars, fats, and carbs.  I am going to not deprive myself of anything but I am going to be aware of what I am putting in my mouth.  I would love to have someone to go on this journey with.

You know people seem to think that this is going to be easy but this is going to be the hardest thing I have ever done.  I might start keeping a journal also.  Just kindof my thoughts and feelings thru this journey.

I would love to get to know you guys and see how everyone is doing.

Shan

Hey, I'm there with you. My goal is to loose about 90lbs over the next two years. I'm thinking a pound a week on average shouldn't be too hard for me to maintain (though possibly hard to track). I'm looking forward to chatting with you on the "long road ahead"

Hi,

I would love to join you all, I am starting properly on 5th Jan, as that is when I go shopping again, and will have thrown out all the badstuff left from xmas and NEW YEAR.

I started last July at 210, and lost quite well, but late September fell off the wagon, see my other post 'I lost my way', so know I am 196, and have a target of 105 hopefully by September 25th my 50th Birthday.

I am on 1200 calories, walk my dog twice a day only for about 30 minutes each time at the moment.

Love to hear from everyone else - Vera

Hi Everyone,

I stumbled across this site today looking for ways to loose some weight. It is nice to see so many people here feeling the same way.

I used to be pretty athletic when I was a kid, was into a lot of sports. After I went off to college I used to live on junk food only as the dorm food sucked. Thought this new year I will give it a try and hope to loose some weight.

Everyone who is looking to start from Mondays I really hope you guys stick to it. I also used to think "I will start from Monday and I can eat whatever I want till then". And then when Monday came, I used to get busy into work, hardly got any time to look at my calorie count or work out regularly and I used to think "I will start from next Monday". I kept going on for some time till I decided that if I want to stick to it then I can't wait for next week. I have to start right now.

I currently weigh 185lbs and hope to loose 20 lbs soon.

Hope everyone reaches their target

hey all, im glad we have stuff in common!

i will deffo be logging in often to see how everyone is doingand for motivation.

i belive it is possible to loose around 100 in a year, when ive tried dieting before i have given up as i crave high fat foods, but this time round i feel more motivated.

I am 252lbs and UK size 18/20, i feel uncomftable and want to be able to wear clothes without having to hide behind a cardy!

im planning on 1200cals a day, and gym 3 times a week minimum

also can i ask why u guys think u gained weight?

for me its just being greedy, i love the taste of food and i can just eat like a whole bag of crisps or half a big cake. i also didnt do any exersize and its just piled on over the years

Hi everyone!  I too was doing great for awhile and then an unexpected 130 mile round trip commute to work threw me off my plans.  I can't use it as an excuse any more as I'm pretty sure that I weigh more now than when I first started to lose weight.

I'm 5'5" and I'm guess I'm around 270.  I'm going to to buy a scale today as my other one broke.

I look forward to keep each other motivated!

I want to lose around 80 pounds so not quite 100 but around there. lol.

I'm 210 love to be 133 gotta really really start this new year!!!

I started last Sunday (just before the New Year) when I made a pact with a dear friend of mine that we would do this together and for each other.  I stumbled on CC by accident searching on a topic and loved the tools that I found on this site.  I want to lose 75 pounds initially....starting weight was 247 (my all time largest) and want to get to 175.  I am a size 16 bottom and 18/20 top....would love to get back to a 10/12.

I am doing 1400 calories a day and working out 5 days a week at Curves.  I started at 1200 calories and couldn't maintain enough energy to make it thru the day.

According to CC, I burn 2400 calories a day so if I consume 1400 a day, I will have burned 1000 more than I ate.  At that rate, I would lose 2 pounds a week.  Not sure how much I really burn so I bought a heart monitor that I wear when I exercise and it turns out that I am burning more than CC states.  (I may have picked the wrong activity level when I filled out the profile section).

I would love to stay in touch with you guys...I need motivation and support to keep going.

Good luck to all of you and hope to see how you are doing over the next few months.

Oh - why do I think I've gained weight?  Two main reason:

  1. I started working from home with very long hours which meant alot of sitting and having the kitchen right next to me.  I'm a stress eater so that didn't help
  2. I would say maybe a mild case of depression?  Things at work and marriage got very stressful this past year and turned to comfort foods.   With the help of CC, I am now conscious of what I eat...not only in terms of calories, but the nutritonal value of the food I am putting into my body.

BTW - I started at 247.8 and am now 241.....6 pounds in my first week. I know this is my body jump starting and I will not lose 6 pounds every week, but Woohoo....it's a good start and great motiviation to keep up with it!

That's great progress. Since you are trying to lose so much weight, you may want to target spelling the word "loose"  the way you intend to spell it. It's "lose" weight".  i.e. If you lose alot of weight your pants will be loose (not tight).  Get it.

Woohoo

I am a 54 year old man who peaked at 265 pounds a couple of years ago - I am 5' 8".  I joined weight watchers and lost 70 pounds in about 9 months and then put a majority of it back on the lasts 18 months.  I was at 255 just before the holidays.  I have tried pills and programs like DietPower 4.0.  I have been using Calorie Count for several years just to calculate calories for DietPower before starting to use Calorie Count as part of my diet regime - I have been very happy, so far, with my progress on calorie count and have lost 8 pounds in the last two weeks.  I am the proverbial traveling salesman and an  emotional eater.  The more bummed out I am or the lower my sales, the more I eat.  I try to eat the same things when I travel - Denny's soup and salad mostly or grocery store deli's.  It has been a struggle for me and at night when I go to sleep I can feel the pulse of my heart in my ears and finger tips.  I figure that can not be healthy.  My biggest concern is that if I do not loose weight and change eating habits, I am reducing my life.

Its nice hearing from everyone,

i didnt just call for ppl losing 100 but i just noticed most of the topics were for people wanting to loose around 10-50 rather than those who are a bit larger. i like this website but i am in the UK and alot of the foods are not on the list.

bill- i also worry about my health, if i run for the bus orsomething myheart races way after my friends does and i get hot quickly after moving about.

i do generally feel better since joining the gym a few months ago tho.

Curvy_gurl - I am looking to loose 95 pounds.  I am originally from England but have been living in the states since I was 25; currently living in the western US these days - most be about 9PM there or there abouts now..  I still have family in the Reading and Henley areas but have not visited in years.  My sister returned  to England last year and is now living in Texas.

I am not much of an exerciser - when people travel with me, they are amazed that I am having difficulties with my weight given all of the walking, climbing, lifting and wrench turning I do when working.  I assume that my metabolism is very slow.  I cringe when I see old pictures of myself - when I was in the Navy, I weighted 150 pounds and when I was in college I was 170 pounds.  I never thought I was an attractive man but I have defintely looked better.

Good luck to you; I am sure you will reach your goal.

I am 23 (going to be 24 next month) and I weigh 244 lbs.  I have a 21 month old and as she gets older and more active, I'm finding it very hard keeping up with her.  I may be wrong but I don't think I should be having that hard of time at this age.  My goal weight is 120 lbs so I'm looking to lose 124 lbs total.  My short-term goal is to lose 46 lbs to get to my pre-pregnancy weight.  I really need to do this for my health and for my family.  I want to be around a long time for my daughter.  It sounds like everyone is doing great so far.  I hope to join you all in your success!

I think I really gained in the past 3 years because eating was a way to respond to stress. I also was never good at cooking and taking care of myself was a last priority.

Curvy Girl,

Just a thought-Have you looked into calorie recommendations by CC? 1200 is very low, unless you are small, older, and not very active. 1200 is considered the bare minimum for a female, and if you are eating less than you should, it can also slow your metabolism after a while and cause your body to stop loosing weight and instead cling to the fat for dear life.

Also it is so much easier to stick with when it's not so drastic. I have done the "gung ho diet" going very low on calories several times, with out success. It seems like the majority of success stories come from people who ate a higher number of calories, but were still significantly less than burned.

:)

Hi! I am also trying to lose over 100 pounds. I need to lose almost 150 pounds. I do this every year, and I am so tired of the roller coaster ride. I know it's not good for my body to keep going up and down, and now I am at a higher weight than I have every been! I have started just counting calories today using this website.  I know I need to exercise, but the thought of it makes me tired! I need motivation and support badly...from people like you who understand! Anyone who cares to chat or correspond through email, please let me know.
