new DSM diagnosis: facebook neurosis

Quote  |  Reply

not really.

but does anyone else hate it when you post something really important in your status, and the people who matter don't respond?  and then you start thinking that the people who don't respond shouldn't matter?  and then you realize that judging your friends by their facebook behaviour is totally insane, and you remember how much you love your friends who aren't on facebook?

lol! yes I'm sort of neurotic about facebook (or stalkbook, as I've heard it called). Right now I'm having a fit because some girl didn't reply to a message about a party she's having. Why don't I just call her? I don't know...

I found my neice and my sister...and tons of other relatives I haven't been in contact with in like, 20 years....( I was raised in a foster home, and had a really screwed up bio-family)..I hadn't seen my neice since she was a  baby..then I saw her photo on facebook...(she is 18 now) and it melted the ice around my heart....facebook is awesome. I don't think I could have found her/or my family without it !

Just be thankful you weren't this guy and no one responded to your facebook status:

i think i'm thankful that i'm not on facebook...

Yes!

Or I post a status to the effect of "having a really sucky day" and they respond with a "aww...it'll get better", but then don't even call me to check up and get details!

Facebook is a really good way to find people and keep in touch with friends...but it is a bit addicting :)

I totally agree. I felt really blue last week and so I posted something to the effect of "Meg is feeling down in the dumps today" and only 1 person commented... and they say  "Cheer up, spring is coming soon".... WTF?

Of course I have to admit, my best friend isn't on facebook, otherwise i'm sure she would definately have called.

Hmmm, I think I posted something similar on a thread here where the poster seemed upset no one had responded in a timely fashion, but I'll say it again: online communication is not real-time communication. It's completely possible the person is out and not at their computer, or online but simply hasn't checked Facebook in a while. In addition the Facebook newsfeed only shows the most recent updates, so if someone updates in the afternoon and I don't go on Facebook till late evening, chances are I won't see it on my feed. I still think if you need to speak with someone about something important, the best way is still a phone call or a direct message.

Or, what about when you comment on a friend's status (nicely) and then they block you? Undecided

That kind of thing can really put a downer on your day...
