New Eats, Favorite Treats

Even though I've lived in Sac all my life, I still find new restaurants that are awesome. So come here and share your favorite restaurants! Whether it's a healthy meal or a "cheat" meal, let us know where to get some good grub!

I'll plug the restaurant my fiance works at!  Tongue out   If you like Korean BBQ, try OZ on Bradshaw in Rancho Cordova.  They have healthier Korean foods for when you're being good, and all-you-can-eat BBQ for your cheat meal!  haha.  It's delicious!  My favorite Korean restaurant in Sac.  It's a little on the pricier side though.

I love Celistin's on K Street. Their happy hour is a MUST if you like gumbo and sangria. Salads are great too.

Went to Aioli last night- it was decent, but rather bland for Spanish cuisine. Deserts are deadly though!

Pieces is the most disgusting pizza I've ever tasted

58 degrees and holding is excellent

Brew it Up is my favorite brewery

Breakfast: Cafe Bernardo (eggs bernardo is to DIE for...and iced chai)

salad: the Big Salad Shop is really good

Thai: Amarin- mmmm

Italian: Il Fornio

sweets: Big Spoon

Bars:

classy lounge: mojo or the park

pub: streets of london

dance: harlow's

karaoke: pine cove (dive!)

bands: blue lamp or press club

comfort food: Ink

*16th street has great food, but it's all big restaurants with lots of people (not my style unless it's second saturday or something)

EDIT: Ella has great food too. Pricey though.

Oh and Tower Cafe! yum

baybeesunja...i have driven by Oz so many times! My family has a tile store right over there but I've never eaten there. Glad to hear it's good though!

lauren..pieces is soooo nasty!!!! we lived right around the corner from it and ate there like 2 times. the little chinese place next to it (called like tea light or something now) is decent. I guess it was good that pieces was so gross.

I love paesanos! It is definitely not low cal or anything but it is soooo yummy! we're right by brew it up and I definitely like it. I had their beef stroganaugh (sp?) and it was super yummy. They have good dessert too. Jack's Urban Eats on 20th and Capitol is really good and has healthy options. Big Spoon is awesome! For a rich treat, Rick's Dessert diner on K is great. I think we're going there tonight.

Lauren, how did you like Streets of London? We are a couple blocks away so we'll be checkin it out soon. I hear they have food?

  • Superb Burger in Rancho Cordova (off Zifandel by the post office on Olson) makes the best veggie burgers.  They probably are more of a cheat food considering the cheese and thousand island dressing but soo yummy!
  • Pete's Original has a great assortment of dishes to choose from.  They have the best pizza I've ever ate (again...more on the cheat side of the menu).   They are  downtown on J & 21st area.
  • Taizo Sushi in Folsom has the best miso soup ever!  Its my favorite next to the edamame.  Its off of East Bidwell exit just down from Raleys.
  • Thai Paradise in Folsom (same location as Taizo Sushi) and they have the best coconut milk tofu or chicken soup.  Best served with rice and Thai iced tea.
  • BJ's has the best baked potatos anywhere.  They are huge and stuffed with various items (one is veggies with alfredo sauce and another is sour cream - thats just to name a few).  Any location I've been to is great!

Thats all I can think of for now.  Enjoy!  Smile

Roly Poly in Natomas is AWESOME! They have literally a hundred options for a sandwich and their nutritional info. is online for 80% or so of them. They have great deals after 4pm (free drink and chips or side) and they are always friendly.  Also the tortilla instead of bread is so helpful when counting calories.

I love ernesto's!! Its in midtown sac. its the best mexican food in the area. so yummy and good prices too. :)

I have to say that jalapenos on 21st and N is the best mexican food. It's a tiny place next to zeldas and it is sooooo amazing!

Ernestos is good, though.

Moved to davis cuz I don't like the commute to UC Davis... but when I lived in Sac, my gf and I loved Mochi. I dont really know if that's the name, but its on Q st. on the corner. Starbucks is right across the street as well as a park.

I want to say its Q and 16th.

It's a non-fat yogurt place. Kinda like Big Spoon except it tastes like how it should, non-fat yogurt. (Not like big spoon where it's like soft serve ice cream)

I still like big spoon though.

Mochi makes their non-fat yogurt in only a few fruit flavors which they change every week or so. Thing is, they use real fruit to flavor their yogurt. And, they use farmer's market fruit for their topping and I beleive they make their own mochi as well. I think they buy flavored mochi though.

Anyways, its good eats.

I like arigatos on Howe and Arden. It's behind Del Taco and across the street from Baja Fresh. All sushi rolls are 50% off, so its nice to go to for a cheap snack or to pig out!

i have always wondered how mochi was! I'ts on 16th and P. I actually drove by it today and was like, hmmm i wonder if that's good. I guess now I"ll have to try it since I have a recommendation.

how are you liking davis? There's a lot of good places in davis. guadalajara is evil for diets!

I like Big Spoon Yogurt.  I used to work there.  For almost every flavor it's 100 calories for 4 ounces.  Not too bad.  And you can put healthier stuff on it like fruits or nuts.

In no particular order:

Tower Cafe----THE ABSOLUTE BEST BREAKFAST EVER!!!

Paesanos- good food, great cheat restraunt

Ink- good grub

Zeldas for pizza- Order ahead before you get there

Corner Cafe for cheap sunday breakfast

Zocolos, yes I do Like Zocolos!

and of course Makuni's for sushi

Went to Mikuni (roseville) last night and it was very good. I recommend the barbecued albacore, it's my favorite.  Does anyone know another sushi place as good but not as $$$?

there are a bunch of japanese/sushi places around downtown that I"m sure are cheaper. I don't eat much sushi so I can't be too much help. But there's a place on J and 22nd (i think...it's right by tapa the world) that i've been to and is pretty good.

Does anyone know of any good vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the area?  Folsom's not super-friendly to the scene, and I'd be willing to drive to Midtown for really good vegetarian food.  Thanks!

The Sunflower in Old Fair Oaks. Not too far away from folsom, all vegan, and even my strictly carniverious friends love it. Super busy on the weekends, cash only.

ricksha sushi on 10th and U, every tuesday 5-9 1dollar hand rolls and every thursday 1dollar nigiri sushi

Another great sushi place is Nishiki's on 16th between O and N Street. It is actually across the street from Mochi! They have a great 1/2 off menu on Saturday afternoons and Sunday evenings.  Yum! I go there at least once per week ... ahhh I can't wait til Sunday :) Love, love, LOVE Chow Bella roll and BBQ Roll...(ask for sauces on the side to control the calories)

My other favorites:

Vallejos S & 4th (terrible if you want to eat healthy)

I Heart Teriyaki on 21st

The Bread Store on J Street for some amazing sandwiches...(oh! the mozzerella, tomato and basil sando is amazing)

Dad's Kitchen on Freeport

Crepeville or Crepe Escape

Mongolian BBQ on Bradshaw...my favorite lunch-time dive

Taste of Thai on Broadway

Tower Cafe (corn chowder soup and las americas salad is my ultimate go to-even in 100 degree weather I can eat the soup...oh and the Thai Steak Salad delish!)

Best sandwiches I've EVER had: Dad's Sandwiches on S street downtown (S and 13th I think?)

Jack's Urban Eats: Super good FAT salads. Lots of toppings, and you take about half of it home. They're 20th and N.

Pancake Circus: You don't go here for the food, you go here for the creepy Clown decour. Have fun sleeping after you go here! Broadway and 21st.

Jack's Urban Eats is fantastic for it's salad choices. You have control.

Tapa the World. Great choices. Appetizer choices included grilled chicken breast, lean pork skewers, etc. Appetizer sizes are good for two people and if you want to make it your cheat meal, add a piece of bread, savor that with some quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar and share a small ceasar salad.
