ok so mine is increadably great and awesome and i love it
Strawberry Sorbetto
ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of frozen strawberries
2 packets of no calorie sweetener
(optional) 1/4 cup of hot water (to make blending easier)
directions:
combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until fairly smooth
Voila, a sweet, light sorbetto sure to conquer any sweet craving for only 65 calories
(actually you could do this with just about any frozen fruit)
- Ground turkey breast...am I an idiot or what? I barley knew this stuff was in existance. Good gosh, it's amazing - 120 calories and one gram of fat for TWENTY-EIGHT grams of protein!
- Bison - this is the only other meat besides the turkey that's keeping me from being a vegetarian. I can't without this stuff...but they were out of it at Whole Foods yesterday; darn them. Ted's Montana Grill has an amazing (yet ridiculously expensive) bison tenderlioin fillet. Mmmmm....
- Lite Tofu - I love tofu, which may seem strange, but now I'm totally excited that they have it at my regular grocery, since it's much cheaper than Whole Foods. It's not exactly a new discovery, but I thought it deserved a mention.
- Kashi GoLean cereal - I'm talking about the original version, not the Crunch, and it has unbelieveable stats. One whole cup is 140 calories, one gram of fat, for thirteen grams of protein and ten grams of fiber! That's like, even better than a Luna or Clif Bar, and LESS calories! With skim milk it's only 180, which is the same as a Luna Bar actually, just even more fiber and protein.
- Couscous - It may not be diet-friendly to everyone, but it sure does taste great. Mmmm...I like the whole-grain, whole-wheat kind the best.
I'm also loving Tofutti. It's non-dairy sour "cream". It has pretty much the same calories and fat of regular sour cream, but I prefer the taste of Tofutti.
And this flavoured tofu called Pete's Tofu. I tried the teriyaki one in a stirfry last night (with quinoa!) and it was quite good!: http://www.petestofu.com/petestofu.htm
One more: a Christmas time favourite: Starbuck's tall non-fat sugar-free gingerbread latte... only 90 calories! I also love Carnation light hot chocolate... only 45 cals! I add a sugar free candy cane (40 cals) and it's super!
Whole grain barley (helps control blood sugar better than whole oats), 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (helps cells utilize blood sugar and reduces spiking and overall appetite - see doctor if you have thin blood or are on blood thinners).
In Canada there's Yoplait Source yogurt which has only 35 calories and no fat/added sugar for 100g. It comes in a wide variety of flavours, including chocolate cherry...mmm...

*gag* that chocolate cherry stuff was what turned me off fake sugar! the flavours sound so good but ugh disgusting!
To each their own, I guess. I kept buying the "dessert mix" packs and the chocolate cherry took a while to grow on me, now I love it.
Black Bean Brownies
One package No Pudge Brownie Mix (other mixes should work fine)
1 can black beans
1 cup water
drain and rinse beans, puree beans with water, mix into brownie mix. Follow cooking directions on package.
Splenda brown sugar and cinnamon tossed with cut up apple.
Suisse Mocha sugar free coffee drink (30 cals)
Trader Joe's low fat pita chips and garlic hummus.
None of these are really new, but they're new to me:
Kashi Golean Honey & Cinnamon hot cereal (it's not just instant oatmeal)
Tofu Shirataki noodles (cheap, low cal and they fill out a meal nicely)
Trader Joe's Peppermint Marshmallows (45 cals per marshmallow and they are so strongly flavored that you can't really eat more than one. Very festive, too.)
Brussels Sprouts (definitely not new, but I've just discovered roasting them and I can eat them like candy)
I bought a bag of chips called "Flat Earth Veggie Chips". They come in a lot of different flavours and they have 1/2 serving of vegetables in ~14 chips. They are a little high in calories (220 for 21 chips) but they are way more satisfying and healthier than regular potato chips!
Another good chip substitute are RiceWorks Sweet Chili chips. They look like Doritos but they're made from brown rice. Mmmm.
Also, Starbucks has a low-cal breakfast wrap: spinach-feta. They heat them up for you and everything! They have some egg for protein and sundried tomatoes for tasty, and are 225 or 250 calories. Not bad.
My big diet secret (which is actually pretty lame) is instead of drinking vodka + cranberry juice (200 cals) I have bourbon and Coke Zero (65 cals, and for some reason the bourbon makes the Coke Zero not taste like poison). I enjoy the cocktails, so this makes a HUGE difference. :D Even when I fell off the wagon (of dieting, not drinking) I kept this one under my belt.
ellene, have you ever seen the coffeemate kind? it comes in sugar free vanilla and a couple other flavors. its delicious (i think at least) and whenever i have it i never need to use sweetener :) i think its more like 35 calories, but its worth it!
and for my addition to the yummy food list:
- Fiber one granola bars- i am obsessed, they are the perfect sweet treat for 140 calories and 8 g of fiber :)
- kashi heart to heart- i'm a big cereal lover and this is my new favorite!
- kashi go lean crunch!- packed with protein and fiber, i add a little to my yogurt for some crunch!
- genisoy apple cinnamon soy crisps- they are to die for! tasty soy crisps like rice crisps only with fiber and protein from the soy. i just enjoyed a whole bag (28 crisps) for 120 calories!
