Hi folks,

New here...  Story is probably in line with many others here but I've always flucuated with my weight.  About 4-5 years ago I lost 55 pounds from 275-220..  I did a good job of keeping it off for some years until about a year and a half ago when I took an office job.

I knew I had gained weight over the last year but I had no idea it was as bad as it was until I bought a scale today and weighed myself.  I am back up to 272.

I'm so very disappointed with myself.  I think I knew it deep down but it took the scale's number to hit it home.  About a month ago I started jogging a couple times a week and have resumed some light weight training.

After todays encounter with the scale I am hoping to kick things into high gear, hopefully with the help of this site!

Welcome, Jake! I just joined a few days ago, and I'm finding it very helpful to use the tools on this site and to read and post in the community. Hopefully soon I will see some results :)

Hey, I'm new, too.  I think this site is going to help, if only because the hassle of entering in all my foods will dissuade me from eating.  I like the weight tracking chart, and I like the slow/steady approach this site advocates.  Now that I'm counting every calorie, it's tempting to cut way back and look for fast results, but some of the other discussions have convinced me not to be too drastic.  I guess we need to establish sustainable habits.

The biggest bummer for me so far?  Alcohol.  As in, how many calories are contained in my favorite martini, with no nutritional value at all.  (Ha ha, I just noticed as I am writing this that I am sitting here in boxers with little martini glasses on them...)  My approach to date is to be "good" throughout the week and loosen up a bit on the weekends.  I guess we'll see how it goes.

Good luck.
Hey there,

I do agree, the tools and process of tracking calories and activies is enough to make me more coincous about things, which will hopefully help!  I completely relate with the alcohol bit too!  I've been trying to subscribe to that train of thought in the last couple weeks.. be real good during the week and loosen up a bit on the weekend without going overboard.

Thanks for sharing!
