Quote  |  Reply
Just wanted to say hi and realize in looking at posts that what I have to lose is what some of you are trying to lose from! I won't be discourgaged. This looks like a great tool and it's FREE? Really truly. I want to thank the folks behind this thing for putting it out here. Any other 100+ guys or gals out here?

Welcome barchedm, glad you joined us!! I'm deb I have over 100 to loose also.  And was very glad to find this site. GOOD LUCK!!!
Best of luck to you too, Deb! We can do this, I just feel it in my big old gut. When I quit smoking 8 yrs. ago, I started eating and never stopped. An on-line support group helped me with quitting smoking and if this site offers that kind of great support, it's going to work. Thanks again.
Welcome aboard, barchedm!

Using calorie counting, I have lost 120 pounds.  If you follow the basic principles of this website, which are: Know your calories in/calories out, get regular exercise, make healthy, portion-controlled food choices, eat everything in moderation, and see this not as a "diet" but as a change in lifestyle to which you are ready to make a lifelong committment, then I can guarantee you this:  Calorie-Count works!

You can do this!

Welcome to CC.

What a great tool it is, I am so glad I stumbled across it.

Having 115 to lose when I started, I knew how huge of a mountain it looks like. All you can do is to take one spoonful at a time. No pun intended.

Some things I have learned from here and other sources:

1) You are NOT dieting..... Lose that phrase from your vocabulary. Diets are designed to be done for a few weeks. You are changing your lifestyle.

2) No change in your nutritional habits will work by itself. You have to commit to exercise as well. This means both aerobic(cardio) and weight training of some sort. The more muscle you have vs fat, the more your metabolism goes up - the faster you burn calories.

3) Good-for-you food does not have to taste like cardboard

4) And just recently I have learned to embrace the concept of eating 6 small meals throughout the day vs 3 bigger ones. This is not easy to master and can be a real pain in the butt, but the rewards are so worth it. I now eat 2600-2700 calories per day, spread out over 6 meals. I am never hungry, and I have not eaten this much food in a day in a long time, but the weight keeps coming off.

5) The second most important thing on this journey.... H2O... Yep, good ol' water. I am not sure enough can be said about making sure you get enough (more when you exercise).

6) The most important thing by far... Is your mental attitiude toward your new lifestyle. There is no "I think I can do something"... It is How Will I accomplish this? instead.

You have made the first and hardest step towards a new lifestyle.. deciding to do it. Now all you have to do is put a plan in place and act on it.

Good Luck and Happy Countng!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement! That's awesome about your weight loss. I think you summed it all up nicely in your post. Peace and continued success. Diane.
Hi, I also have a large amount to lose, 130 lbs to be a perfect, skinny weight. It will be a long road, but full of healthy changes and new patterns of behavior. I've lost 12 lbs or so on my own with an atkins diet, but I couldn't follow it for more than a month. Anyway, good luck with your weight loss adventure. I'm in the same boat. Lisa
barchedm, good luck....also need to lose 100 pounds. definate change of lifestyle....I love eating out....and hate cooking. I am limiting myself to one night a week dining out and making better choices when I do go out. I personally was shocked to see what calories I was eating when I started. Actually logging in all my foods for the day takes a while still, and although the computer is CLOSE to the kitchen, I am drinking water and logging and staying out of the kitchen. Which is funny I would be there at all considering I don't like to cook.....I have found some great receipes and exercise videos...(I am not a gym person.....yet). I have found this site by accident and have found it to be very helpful. Keep at it!
