Hello - I've just joined the group.
I was SKINNY all through elementary, junior high & high school.
Over the years I've gradually worked my way up to over 200 pounds. (5'7").
I LOVE to eat and I don't like to exercise.
If I can get to the gym, I feel SO good, it's getting there that is the problem.
Also, I'm an emotional eater - at work when I get frustrated or irritated, I eat - cookies, candy bars, etc. Not celery & carrots.
My husband & I don't really cook anymore - we either go out or do tv dinners.
I've read all kinds of advice, been a Weight Watchers member, but just can't get motivated.
Help!
Hi Nelson86-
I have been an emotional eater for many many years..a disordered eater. I felt powerless against the siren call of food..to calm myself or reward myself or whatever. What i was doing was stuffing my feelings down with food. Using food like this, WW & other like diet programs did not help me resolve my emotional problems & so i always gained wt back. I was feeling so desperate, so defeated, so-what's the use.
I found shrinkyourself.com and out of desperation, signed up. I also bought the book. Turned out to be a great decision..Dr. Gould's program gave me many insights and tools to help resolve my food issues and deal with my life in a new way.
I did continue with 1 on 1 therapy for several months to help me practice what i was learning and gain further insights. It has been over 6 mos now and i remain binge free! Just cannot express how wonderful that is. My life did not change, but i did. When i reach my goal wt this time, i think i can make it last.
Best wishes on your journey..A
Thank you so much for responding!
I find that I also eat when I'm disappointed with someone / a situation, angry with someone / a situation, depressed, etc. And I seem to be depressed a lot lately - menopause???
Anyway, I'll look up the website & the book right now.
Again, thank you --- it helps to know that someone cares.
