I have been consuming between 1200 &1500 calories a day. I am 5 5 and currently 183, this site says I need just over 2000 cal a day, but I don't think I'll lose that way...I workout an hour everyday and have settled into the calories I have been eating well. If I eat the calories I currently consume will I lose faster or endanger myself? I want to do this in a healthy way. Any ideas?
Well definitely keep consuming at LEAST 1,200 calories a day. That's the first thing (which it sounds like you know). Secondly, what kind of deficit are you creating weekly? It shouldn't be more than 7,000.
To figure this out...
Step 1) Use an online "maintence calcluator" like this one:http://www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalcs.html ...to see how many calories per day you should eat to MAINTAIN your weight.
Step 2) Go add up the calories you ate over the past 7 days
Step 3) Subtract the calories you exercised away from Step 2
Step 4) Subtract the number you got from step 3 from step 1
If that number is 7,000 or more, you are doing damage to your body!
If the number is below 7,000 then you should have the eating/working out right...
The calculator says I need 2389.5 to maintain. I ate 10,125 in 7 days. I burn at least 365 cal in my workouts, 5 days a week. I come up with a negative number so I have no idea if I am doing the math wrong or what...
10125 - 1825 = 8300
2389.5 x 7 days = 16726.5
16726.5 - 8300 = 8426.5
That's what I thought! you're over 7,000 -- not very healthy. Try to put 1,400 back into your diet somehow.
