I?m a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic and I have to clean up my diet and lose weight or my doctor is going to put me on needles. I have always had poor eating habits and lack of will power but I am pretty motivated at this point.
This looks like a great site - is it helping anyone out there

Hey Joko... Welcome to the site... I think you are really going to find alot of support you wil need here. This site has helped me to stay motivated and get of humps in my lifestyle change... not to metion the tools to log your food and weight is great. I started on January 9th and as of today I am down 20lbs.. I have 70 LBS to go so I plan on being around for a long time. I am not Diabetic but I know there are other Diabetics on the site who are going to be a big help to you!!
Joko, Glad to see you here. No needles is a great motivator. This site has helped me drop 13 lbs in 6 wks. Not a lot, but 13 lbs is still 13 more than I had lost before I found this site. Good luck to you. Remember that GREAT motivator when you have a loss of will power.
I've been on and off weight loss diets since I was 45 (I'm 63 now), so I know perfectly well what low calorie food is. I'd lose 10 pounds and gain back 15, over and over again. I've done Weight Watchers, Nutri Systems, Atkins, and every other diet you can think of. However, now that I've found this site, I finally have several things needed for success:
1. An easy way to record my calories and track nutrients, via the Food Log and the Analysis tool, all under my own control.
2. A community of like minded people at all stages of weight control, including the highly successful.
3. Plenty of advice, support and encouragement.
I know two diabetics who were able to get off medication and avoid needles, by controling their diet, losing weight and getting lots of exercise, so it you can do it too! I hope you like it here as much as I do!

Hello and welcome, I am new to this site as well its been about 1 week and I LOVE IT, so much info and the people are great, if you need questions answered there right on it, I guess its because they spend as much time on it as I do,,anyhow I am type 2 i found out 15 yrs ago I was 22 yrs old and weighed 340 lbs then,,,took me a very long time to take it seriously!!! I used to take the shots but sadly that didnt even have the effect it should have to get my weight under control, being diabetic is messed up enough but I urge you to not do the shots because then the weight is even harder to lose, its a hormone which makes you gain weight, pills are no better but there are ones out there that help fight weight gain, not many tho trust me I think Iv tried them all, but this last one i was on was the worst, glipizide, so now Im off that but still take medophorum, i think thats how you spell it lol...the key is to eat right,,,no sugar low carbs and eat 3-4 times small meals a day, just losing the weight will help your blood sugar, I am hopeful that when I get to my goal weight I wont have to take the meds at all but I am also hopeful that I didnt do so much damage to my body already for all the years I played games with it!!! good luck to you and feel free to add me to your friends list and if you need to support Im here for you!! by the way I am now 37 and weighed 248, 3 weeks ago now I am down to 236 but hopefully when I weigh in tomorrow it will be less, and my blood sugars have been sooo much lower then they have been in years!!!..
