Sounds like you've had your wake-up call....   You don't have to 'close your mouth' to lose weight.  Just be a little more choosy about what goes in it.  Smile  You can make a massive difference to your size if you swap certain foods for better ones.  For example... rather than sugary snacks, try fruit or vegetables   Rather than white bread and white rice which can leave you feeling hungry again quite quickly, try wholemeal bread and brown rice which are more sustaining.  Rather than food out of packets, make it from fresh.  It helps a lot to go through your cupboards, fridge and freezer and remove the foods you think are not so good for you....  make it more difficult to eat badly than to eat well.

And if you have any particular bad eating habits that you know (because we all know what they are) then try to tackle them one at a time.   A common bad habit, for example would be skipping breakfast. Getting a healthy breakfast every morning would then be that person's objective for the week.

I would suggest that even though this site is called 'Calorie Count' you start out by trying to improve your diet before you get into the calorie counting.  5-a-day fruit and vegetables, 3-a-day wholegrain foods, use lean meat, dairy and oils sparingly.   Drink water in preference to sodas.   Cook foods rather than use packets or takeaways.  Eat/snack regularly and don't go hungry.   These simple measures can quickly change your energy levels, your optimism, your shape... and then calorie-counting is a logical next step.

Finally... get moving.   You don't have to join a gym if you don't want to.  Simple things like a walk around the block each day.  Cycling rather than driving.  Parking on the far side of the car-park rather than outside the front door.  Taking stairs rather than lifts or escalators.   Turning off the TV and finding other things to do around the home.... All of these will help you burn energy a little quicker.

Welcome to CC. Just remember in the moments when it's difficult that the payoff is much greater. Congrats on reaching out to the CC community and if you ever have questions, want to vent, or just chat please do message me :)

Welcome to CC! I'm still getting used to eating less junk food, and still resisting it at times. I'm also getting used to a desk job instead of an active job. It's rough. But I always feel so much better after getting up off my butt and moving, even if it's just going for a walk with my mom. Endorphins, hallelujah!

I just want to say I like your username. We have to remember that eating healthy is a lifelong lifestyle, not a diet that we can come off of. The more healthy foods and recipes I find, the easier it is to comply. It really isn't that bad if you know what you are doing (although it is really easy to slip, too).

I just stumbled upon this website: www.hungry-girl.com It has some DELICIOUS recipes that are so good for you! You would never even guess.
