The July Fourth Challenge is on the honor system. It is your responsibility to accurately track your weight each day/each Wednesday.

Post your weight every Wednesday morning. Also, post any tips you may have or articles as well as interact with other J4C'ers.

If you miss 3 consecutive weigh-ins you forfeit the benefits of this challenge.

Last week: 172.0

This week: 171.0

J4C Total: 9.0

Since AFC start: 24.0

I was hoping to get a full 10 pounds in the J4C. Just missed that by a pound. However, I was plateaued for a good month and a half at the beginning. I'm on a good pace now, though, averaging a pound a week. So I'm optomistic that I'll get there just a week or two late.

I started the AFC hoping to loose 30 pounds. While it has gone a little slower than expected, the process has been good because now I have had a whole six months of practicing good eating habits. It's been tremendous just to see the impact on my health and energy just by losing weight and improving diet.

As a fun sidenote, I have a nine month old daughter whose weight gains (she's almost 20 pounds now) have somewhat mirrored my weight loss. It's a great reminder that every time I pick her up and she seems heavier that I've lost that much weight -- in fact, that I used to have to carry that much extra weight around with me all the time!

Having seen the progress I've made in weight and waist measurements, I'd like to revise my goal. I'm aiming to lose another 10 pounds by Labor Day, which will take me a up to a total of 35 pounds lost. I'll then look for a plateau area somewhere between 150 and 160 that I can easily maintain for the long term.

Up to this point I've mostly been focusing on diet. During this next challenge I'm also going to start working on excersize and activity more. The runnings on this board have been inspiring... I'm going to try to work on some 5k's in anticipation of running one leg in a company marathon this fall.

Even though the posts are a bit slow right now, thanks to all for the encouragement, information, and motivation on this board. It's been a big motivator on the days where it would be a lot easier to just go get fast food. It's been long enough that it is easy to start to drift away, but let's get remotivated for this labor day challenges so we can go into the fall healthy and lighter.

I am at 188.  I plateaued my whole program.  The good - I am still down 40 pounds from where I started last fall.  The bad - if I continue to do what I am doing, I will rebound.

190 is my alarm weight, and if I hit it - I will return to full time calorie counting.  Maybe (if what I read in Set Point) it will be time to go through another period of fat loss.

Thank you all for your support, are we moving forward to Labor Day?

I stepped on the scale this morning and for the first time since I was 17 the first number in my weight started with a 1

J4C final weigh in 198lbs.

J4C starting weight 204

J4C Loss 6lbs.

Total loss since starting new lifestyle 52lbs. (20% of total body weight)

Strikez Good question about Labor Day.  Yes we will be moving forward!!  There is no reason to stop our progress.  I like bobev's suggestion.  I am willing to start a new thread for us (new header with link back to this thread) pending the appearance of our OP pinksalmon.

That being said how is everyone else finishing?  Let us hear your final results for the July Challenge.

Wiiwigi - wow super achievement.  You are demonstrating that we can fight this obesity epidemic if we get off our asses and take charge.

I am in with the new thread to continue to go forward.

WW,

I nominate you for new leader of the pack!  Thanks for work keeping track of weigh ins and holding things together.  Awesome Job on the "1", I know that is a good feeling.

JHarris,

Good job on steady weight loss and I know what you mean about comparing your kids weight to your loss.  I have dropped/kept off 35+ lbs and my 15 mo. old weighed in the other day at 29 lbs (The kid is a horse).  After my 10K my knee has been sore (Runners Knee really gets you going down stairs) and when I carry him I barely can make it.  So makes you appreciate the drop in weight.  Nor could I imagine strapping him to my back and running a 10K!

Good luck on the 5K ... Just start slow and build up.

JFC Final:  185 lbs ;-( (Pretty much flat as my 181 AFC end was more of a cut weight trying to get to 30 lb club and have been steady between 183 -186)

Its not good but I know I lost fat and gained muscle/fitness the last 3 months, Ran 2 10K's (PR - 56:10), Ran record Long run of 8 miles; Ran 3 more 5K's (PR - 24:17); Got checked out at Health Expo and had good scores on Cholesteral, Bood Sugar, Blood Preasure!

Labor Day challenge:

Log Food Everyday

10 lb Weight Loss (175 lbs)

Run 10 mile race (August 17th - Goal 1:30:00)

Prepare for 1/2 Marathon (Week after Labor Day - Goal 2:00:00)

Final results: 182. Down only 1 pound this week. I ate like a horse this week.

I wish to thank you all for the tremendous support, advice, and for sharing your stories. I very much emjoyed reading everyone's posts. I hope I can join you all once more for the next thread.

Congratulations to everyone on the great strides made! Keep fighting the good fight!

Special thanks to PinkSalmon and Mr. wiliwigi for the tremendous diligence on this project.

Final   weight 223.

rk described to a T what I've been goin' through thiese last three months.  Very small weight loss but continued heavy workout routine that includes 3 days of running and 3 cross train per week.  I continue to drop fat and replace with muscle and a reduced waist line.  I also continue to stay healthy and injury free as I try to listen to my body, go slow, be patient and not get frustrated by little setbacks.

I'm rededicating myself to another round of "BIG" fat loss for the Labor Day Challenge.  My goal is to be at 205 which represents 6 lbs/mo/ which I believe is do-able.  Since Monday I've been eating 1,500 cals or less/day.  In April I got my BMI down to 18% from over 30 when I started last October.  My new BMI goal is now 11% which is the lowest recommended level for my age group.  I don't know if I will achieve this BMI by Labor Day but I will be working on it----hard.  I've  ordered the book "The Abs Diet" and plan to follow closely.  I've been doing a lot of circuit training lately.  Different types of aerobic exercises with weighs and high reps.  My core is taking a beating but I feel really good.  My trainer friend at the YMCA turned me on to the following web site.  I've only spent a short time with it but it is full of great stuff.  Check it out!

I'm OK with any direction you guys want to go with as respects the thread.  Count me in.  I ain't goin' nowhere.

I know this is gettin' a little old but I can't thank you guys enough for your input on real life stuff, your successes, your failures, your fears, etc.  It gives me a high level of belief that if you can do it so can I.

Wili!  You are the man.  Kudos on the "1".

You got me pumped.

SRQ Cool

Final weight 279lbs (Goal #2 met) 1st goal was to get to 299.

Total Loss since Oct 07 and starting calorie count 52lbs

Its all calories in and calories out.  I'm eating everything I ate in the past but when I get to 1800-2200 calories, I stop.  Along with exercise.  I just hope the next 50 will come off like the first 50.  I know it won't but I can wish because it hasn't been that difficult.

Hello Costa Rica and the zip lines I can now travel on!

Sorry I'm late--final weight 165.0. Not what I had hoped for, but I'll take it. I knew that I wasn't going to set any weight loss records during this challenge, so any loss for me is good.

Congrats to everyone on their progress during the challenge, whether it was in weight loss, fitness improvements, and/or learning to live a daily healthy lifestyle. Your experiences and stories have been a continuous source of motivation.

This is an open apology to all my friends.

For the last couple of months i have been dealing with an increase pain in my neck (not the wife and kids). The pain was becoming unbearable. I could not sleep, have not worked out, did not go back to the club and play the harmonica. What i have done is eat the pain away. I know I have gained weight and lost most of  my firmness. i am just so tired.

I did get an MRI,

I have saver arthritis in the neck and the disks are pressing against the nerves. Right now im on some heavy pain meds, and this week I will be going under a procedure to help with the pain and eliminate most of the drugs. I hope.

This is no excuse, but im tired.

I know you guys care, and im sorry for not keeping up with my journal or any of the groups.

I promise that after the procedure I will slowly get back to normal and even better.

pleas accept my lame excuse for an apology

Abner

I will never give up, I will never surrender.

I am not on a diet, I am changing my life style.
