the New and Improved Walking Off the Weight
I am hoping to see wlmich and amaresmom and all my old friends here.......
I am probably officially more of a wogger than a walker nowadays, but hey, it's the idea, right? ( : (fyi -- wog = jog/walk, but mostly jog)
If you are in the first days of walking off your weight, or you are an old pro at this whole, weight loss thing, tell us what you are doing that works! How do you stay motivated? What do you do when it is icy and you can't walk outside?
Again, I hope to see all my old, positive walker buddies here!!! Are you still out there?????
Rock on with your walking selves!!! ( : --Olivia
Instead of watching tv or snacking while waiting for the high school basketball games to start tonight, I instead chose to go walk!!!
I walked 6 laps on the track = 1 and 1/2 miles
GO ME!!!!
Hopefully everyone is still walking their weight off successfully!! ( :
Hi Olivia. I've just started this on monday, but instead of walking the very short distance from my sons school after I have dropped him off I know walk the long way home which is 1 mile and then I do the same on the way to collect him. So I am managing to get 2 miles walked in a day. I'm hoping to add to this a longer walk on the weekends when there is someone home to watch the kids,
My plan is to slowly increase the distance I walk by including different streets into my route.
Well done on your 6 laps
Welcome to cc...... It changed my life!!! I absolutely need the support I get here from some of the best girls I;ve ever met. Friends who love you AND hold you accountable ar very motivational.
So where are you? How old is your kiddo? ( : I am 30, a high school teacher, have an awesome, long term boyfriend, and the 4 best furry children in all the land (well, 5 if you count my cats and the little doggie I walk next door!).
WHat are your goals? And I have to tell you for DANG SURE, adding any amount of semi-serious exercise will help A LOT. As long as you are not strolling and you're trying a little, you will amoazed how quickly you see a difference.... I started at 230 this summer, started walking with 2 lb. handweights an hour a day (I have summers off....), and I started counting calories here, and by September I was down 40 lbs. ( : It;s worth it!! Tell me more!
I too found moving in with my sweetheart hurt my eating habits... and exercise, come to think of it,.....
I had recently lost 100 lbs when I met him, so for the first year we dated, we rarely ate together.... I didn't want pizza or fast food, and I kept up my weight loss efforts pretty well (with a few extra drinks thrown in). After we moved in, I had a big case of the "he loves me, so let's eat" or something. ( ; Gained a few, then a few more, then almost died, and gained a lot. Lost 40 this summer to be in a wedding as bridesmaid with a buch of blond, size zero bitches, and am still working on losing more. 192, so a lot better than 230, but I would like to get to 150 or 160, somewhere I feel good and can maintain without killing myself.....
I think your walking plan sounds good -- and should work!! WOO HOO!!!
I love her to death. I was shocked to realize while we walked today that despite my perception of her being "skinny" or at least "skinnier" than me, she was really out of shape, at least caedio-wise. I didn;t even need a shower I got such a light workout, but she was DYING. If Sugar (the dog I walk) had not stopped to sniff poop so often, she would have been the one pooping out early and often.
Is it bad/weird to be proud of that? (blush)
Its not bad or weird so long as you didnt jump up and down cheering LOL.
Had a good day the other day when I had walked to the supermarket and realised it was the first time I got there and wasn't out of breath. Think it could be the right time to go from 2 to 4 miles a day.
Hi to everyone!!
LOL! I'm a wogger too! I do jog but a very slow pace since running is just too hard on my shins and knees. Right now I'm doing a 13 minute mile power walk, 3 miles total. I also discovered my local community pool so will start swimming laps 3-4 days per week and wogging on the off days!
Walking is also helping me with my mild depression due to homesickness and Seasonal Affective Disorder. It makes a difference on the days I walk, even in the rain!
Happy wogging!
But I can not take credit -- another friend Jess is responsible for the super combo word.
I liked it because I was a full on walker when I started. Just couldn;t fathom running..... And slowly but surely, I upped the ante to a point where I am jogging as much as I can and only walking enough to slow the old heartbeat down to a fast thump vs. an out of the chest reverb. ( :
I have a hard time walking in the rain. I need to. I feel like that;s a semi valid reason not to do it outside.... I have other alternatives inside like a fitness ball and hand weights that I lean on for crappy weather, but you go, girl -- walking in the rain! (I am a huge clutz and need no help falling down. I just think for me rain / jogging / + strong, excited puppy pulling me on a leash = bad hospital bill.....) ( ;
Do you try and stick to the walkin g both days of the weekend?
Walking in the rain gives me fond memories of childhood! Playing in puddles and coming in the house soaking wet and my mother drying me off! (after yelling at me for being so wet!)
The key to walking in the rain is a raincoat that isn't too bulky. I wear my NorthFace fleece and a thin windbreaker type jacket over. I also wear a baseball cap and put the windbreaker hood over it which keeps the rain off my face even more.
I couldn't exercise without my iPod, the music drives me to keep going and makes me happy. :) I also find when I don't get out for a walk my mood is worse than normal.
I think you have a smart thing going, redkitty. I don't even have a rain jacket anymore..... which makes me flashback to the one I had as a kid. Bright grass green with navy blue whales on the inside -- I loved that thing so much I wanted to wear it all the time! ( :
I too am a music lover while exercising. I take it less now that I take the dog too, but in the beginning, I think music is the only thing that kept me going sometimes..... "one more song.....!"
Hi
I'm a walker but I do it on my treadmill. I walk for 5 minutes then i run for 2 minutes. When i was only walking I only lost a lb a week, but now that i have added the running into it I have lost almost 4 lbs this week alone. I have been watching what I eat and using the calorie counter and making sure i stay at about 1000 deficit and its working. I didnt really think running would matter that much, but it is! I walk/run for about an hour to 2 hours a day. I put a t.v. in front of me without that i couldnt do more then 20 miutes..lol. I am really happy with this sight and when I reach my goal weight I am going to quit smoking..scary but I have to do it. I have 3 little girls to care for and they need me around.
I have quit smoking several times, but it is totally worth it to quit for good!!! I feel SSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better when I run now. ( : ANd if you have little ones, you need all the speed and stamina you can get for sure!!!!
I went twice yesterday. That was due to my big lunch and big late evening snack. I went to the gym after my big lunch, and felt like I made a slight deficit. And then my work-out buddy invited me out for chinese at 8 p.m., about 2 hours after I had eaten a light dinner (and was therefore wanting something, at least), and I said, "Gurrrrl, we gotta go to the gym."
Thanx Olivia
I have quit all 3 times when i was pregnant...as soon as i delivered I said give me a beer and a cig..lol. My hubby keeps telling me to quit, I keep ignoring him. It is strange because he is a casual smoker. He can smoke a pack in a day then not have another for 2 months. But if i quit im not letting him do it anymore..lol..I have 3 packs left in my carton, so i'm thinking of quitting when they run out
. I am a strong willed person. If I set my mind to do it I will. Just don't want to hurt anyone in the process of my withdrawal. I also dont want to gain weight. Thats scary too.
we will see how it works out..wish me luck
