New job causes weight loss?
A few weeks ago I applied for a new job and got it (yay!). Since then my weight has gone down while it has been stagnant for almost 10 months. The same thing happened about 10 years ago when I got another new job and I lost quite a lot of weight (about 24 kg).
I've been thinking about this. Could the way you think influence your weight loss?
I am almost convinced that the way you think in life changing processes (like moving, new jobs or breaking up) can influence your weight. Either new energy starts to flow (and you lose weight) OR you prevent new energy to come in, hold on to old stuff and you gain or stay on the same weight.
I am curious what your experiences are.
Did you recently have a life changing decision to make? Were you open to the change or did you resent it? What did your weight do at that time? Did you gain or lose or stay the same weight?
Possible answers....
- I was open to the change and I lost weight
- I was open to the change and gained weight
- I was open to the change and I kept my same weight
- I resented the change and I lost weight
- I resented the change and I gained weight
- I resented the change and I kept my same weight
- Huh? What are you talking about? Weight loss has nothing to do with the way you think.
So what do you think?
7...... LOL!
Weight-gain or loss depends on how much you eat, what you eat and how much exercise you get. And your environment influences all three of those. If you start a new job and you're working hard to get to grips with it, and it's absorbing your attention ... for some people that will mean they lose weight because they're end up running around a lot more and not eating so much. For other people they might gain weight because the new job means they've got less time to go to the gym or their new colleagues are fond of 'team cakes'.
People breaking up a relationship can go either way as well. Some people lose their appetite when they're upset/happy, others eat more. There's no set pattern. If you break the relationship up voluntarily and the partner with the terrible eating/drinking habits you were copying moves out then you might lose weight. Or you could be so happy to be off the leash that you spend the next few weeks celebrating, drinking too much, eating too much and gaining weight.
I haven't started yet :-) I'm starting Oct 1st.
I do agree that it all comes down to burn and intake but I'm talking about a metaphysical level. What do you think?
Maybe it is a bit woo-woo talk but this really makes me wonder.
There are links between mind and body... the response to stress includes an increase in insulin production. Fear raises the heart-rate. Love releases endorphins. But you're not going to lose or gain that much weight purely & simply because you're experiencing a particular thought-pattern or emotion. It's the subsequent change in behaviour (specifically food and activity) that will have most impact.
