NEW 15-20 lbs. club (CLOSED - to keep it small)
All the groups that I have come across are from February so I decided to start a new topic.
I am looking for a couple women, age 20-30 who are interested in losing about 15-20 lbs. We don't all have to be the same but it would be nice if we were close to the same stats.
I am 21, 5'3" and about 150 lbs. That is WAY too heavy for me. I can't believe I am 150 lbs. I have always hovered around 145 lbs but I dont know why this summer has been so rough to me.
I am going to start teaching school in November and I have lots of really cute clothes that I want to look great in, they fit now but they are a little snug (size 6!) so anyone that wants to get committed and receive some real support POST and tell us your ups, downs, struggles, worries and maybe we can help!
I would love to be in your group. I did a group once before and it really helped motivate me. I'm 24, 5'4" and about 145 lbs. My goal is 125, so I have 20 lbs to lose to hit my goal. I'd like to do it in 6 months. I've been counting calories for two weeks and doing well with that, but for some reason I haven't lost any weight. I hate my scale though and am going to Target during lunch to invest in a better one... I vote for once a week weight ins, plus group support for anything else (ie- challenges, advice, recipes, etc...). That is kind of the format of my last group and it was really wonderful...
I am 28, 5'4 and weigh 138. I would like to be under 130 and then go from there.
Last week I joined a gym because I'm horrible at working out on my own. I've been going to spinning class in the morning or working out on the elliptical for ~20mins when I can't make it to class. I also started eating better/counting calories. My goal for the week is to make all my lunches for work. Oh and I bought a heart rate monitor to make sure I'm in the correct range when working out.
Me too!
29 yo
5'3
130.4 this morning
Goal Weight: 115 by November 15th (that's what CC says)!
Hi! I would love to join the group too. I've been on this site for a while now, but it seems like I can't get motivated. Hopefully this will help. I'm 27, 5'4.5" and 139. I'd like to get down to 125.
Alright. I think this is good. I agree with bodaciousbride (name?) that we should have weekly weigh-ins. Anyone have a day preferance? I was thinking Thursday or Friday mornings?
Plus if anyone has recipes and general "this is what I ate today!" posts we can cheer you on.
I was on low-carb last week and I went down to 148 (happy) then went on a 3 days vacay (but stuck to low-carb!) and was up to 150 this morning (not happy!).
But today I am back on track and integrating grains in at the end of the week, I started fruit on Thursday. I'm generally not a low-carb, fad diet kinda girl but I thought it would help... it didn't
like usual.
My name is Laura... That's probably a lot easier than my "20 lbs. to bodacious bride" name!! LOL. I think we should try to keep this group relatively small if possible because one group I did got so big, no one really knew one another.
I vote for Thursday morning weigh-ins.
My recent challenges: I went to a baseball game on Friday night and had 24 oz. of beerlicious pleasure (200 extra calories) plus, I had some bad calorie info on my dinner from quiznos that night and my sandwich ended up with more cals. than I had anticipated... eek!!
I should be back on track this week, so we'll see what the scale says on Thursday...
I would like to join. I am 24, 145 (or so) lbs. 5'1". I would like to get down to 125 ultimately. I am willing to do a Thursday or Friday weigh-in. =)
I agree with Laura again. I changed the name and closed the group. I think 7 people is enough because some of them get so big that no one really knows whats going on and there are so many posts you can't keep up.
Thursday's it is.
Today I am eating...
Breakfast: 1/2 soy milk, 1/2 milk, 1/2 banana smoothie
Snack: 1/2 cup blueberries and a babybel cheese
Lunch: Crustless broccoli quiche (my recipe is online and really really good!)
Snack: grapes and yogurt
Dinner: Bison steak with brussels sprouts
Snack: broccoli, celery, baby carrots and ranch dip (1 tbsp)
I am zig-zagging which means that you change your calories everyday so you never eat the same amount of calories day-today but at the end of the week it equals as much as what you would of ate if you had constant calories. so it looks like this...
Monday: 1208 cal
Tuesday: 1364 cal
Wednesday: 1501 cals
Thursday: 1228 cal
Friday: 1364 cal
Saturday: 1637 cal
Sunday: 1364 cal
I read a lot about it and now I am gonna try it... I've been doing it (not diligently) for a week so I'll see on Thursday how it goes!
7...
If I counted right, I didn't make it in time?
I'm pretty sure you were included in the "7" lovin. I counted 7 including you...
Stacey- I'm really interested in this "zig zagging" technique... It seems to make sense metabolism-wise. Plus then it's a little more flexible if you know one day is going to be harder than another one! I'm going to wait until I feel confident in my calorie counting and feel like I'm "on track" and then I may try this zig-zagging thing too. Let me know if you start to form an opinion about it.
In one way, I'm glad it's Monday... I love weekends, but it is SO much easier to have structure in my diet when I'm working:
Breakfast: One small onion bagel (140 calories), 2 tablespoons of fat free cream cheese (30 calories and tastes delish), and one veggie breakfast pattie (60 calories) made into a "breakfast sandwich."
Lunch: Brown rice, black beans, corn, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, red pepper, shrimp and fat free shredded cheddar cheese: less than 500 calories
Dinner: Don't know yet!
Well in that case, thank you very much!!!
So weigh-in is Thursday. Sounds great to me.
I am very good at sticking to my diet plan during the day at work...evenings and weekends are a little harder.
So far today I have had Special K for breakfast, Golden Delicious Apple for a mid-morning snack, a Simply Steam Red Potatoes / red peppers / snap peas for lunch, a vanilla yogurt as mid afternoon snack and not sure what dinner will be yet.
Good luck to everyone. I know I need the support and encouragement.
Here is what I ate today:
Breakfast - Arnold protein bread with scrambled eggs. I regret the scrambled eggs though cause it added 200 calories to my day, which I don't need!
Lunch - Salad - I have this everyday for lunch - just a salad with crab meat and I have been using newmans honey mustard light dressing. This dressing has been my favorite after a year long search for the perfect "healthy" dressing. I am not a fan of italian or balsamic..I LOVE creamy dressings like ranch, so this honey mustard works pretty well for me.
Snack - (bad) caramel apple left over from this weekend.
Dinner - swordfish with asparagus.
My goal for this week is to not have any alcohol until the weekend. I think that is where all of my fat is coming from!
I am so glad I'm doing this with all of you! Like starbuck said, I already feel accountable!
Being at work during the week is hard for me because my company has a cafeteria and to encourage people to eat there, the have no refrigerators and two ooollllld microwaves for 1,000 people to share. not conducive to bringing in lunch. Therefore, I'm constantly looking for good take out and dine in options. I've found a lot of combinations so if any of you need some help in that department, I'm all yours!
Thursday weigh ins are good for me!
Today I ate:
Breakfast: Honey Bunches of Oats with Strawberry (not the best for me, but it was on sale...I know, I know...) plus skim organic milk
Snack: Red Delicious Apple
Lunch:Cosi Shanghai Chicken Salad with the Fat Free Balsamic Vinigarette instead of the ginger soy dressing and NO BREAD
Dinner, we shall see, but I'm thinking one of the many lean cuisine's I have in my freezer...
I'm trying to keep under 1350-1400 calories a day. The burn meter tells me I burn 1700 a day without any exercise. Then if I get myself to the gym, I can add some calories. Does that sound right?
Any tips for someone with a naturally skinny boyfriend who loves to eat? :) I feel bad neglecting him and not eating out with him or making him good dinners!
Sara I have a naturally thin boyfriend who is trying to GAIN weight! It is difficult but he is so supportive and we eat healthy together. But the rule we live by is that he eats 1 1/2 times what I eat. We also just worked it out that the only time he is allowed to eat bad around me is on Friday OR Saturday (one meal on one of those days is going to be my cheat) then we can go out/ order in etc.
He is trying to gain weight and be healthy so this is working for us. Also, we go to the gym together. We dont workout together (apparently I have too girly of exercises for him haha) but we go together so we make each other go. Which is nice.
If your boyfriend likes to go out, thats okay. Just watch what you eat, it is possible to eat out and lose weight. And as for "good dinners" everything I eat/make is delicious fast and very tasty! I love cooking so if you want help with the cooking/good/low-fat talk to me!
That sounds like a really great plan, thanks!
Oh and about the "good dinners" -- I'd love to have some of your recipes. What I meant by good dinner though is that he's one of those guys who considers chicken "not real meat" haha!
I actually just signed up to do a semi private pilates lesson with a co-worker of mine. It's not until August 6th, but I'm excited! I've never done pilates before but I've heard great things!
I'm trying to eat around 1200 calories a day but I've also started excercising a lot this week (spinning classes hopefully every morning!). Before this I had no excercising so if I get hungry, I'll have a healthy extra snack until I settle in with how many calories I should be eating to not lose energy throughout the day. Like Laura, I want to try zig-zagging after I get my calorie counting down better!
I'm not a morning person at all...my work starts at 8am but I usually convince myself to stay in bed and not show up until 9am. Twice in the past week I've been able to get up and attend my gym's 6am spinning class, so I'm really excited! I hope I can keep it up.
I have a really, super, extraordinarily boring job haha so thats why I have the time to post lots during the days!
Sara, try searching the recipes on here, you can search by ingredient.
I mostly cook with Company's Coming "low-fat cooking", "low-fat express". My boyfriends mom just bought me "Everyone can cook mid-week meals" and that is also a great tool. I plan dinners with my boyfriend on Sunday's (or whenever) and then go to the grocery store and buy my food for the week. It works well and I just make extra so I have the left overs for lunch.
What is everyone living situation? Jobs? Etc.... I am a university student entering my last (yay!) year of university. Like I said before I have an insanely boring tourism job for the summer. I live with my boyfriend but when I head back to university, I'll be living in the upstairs of the house that I rented the basement suite from last year. I start teaching in November for my practicum!
My day is going good except I had 2 unplanned coffees with some half and half in them with splenda... thats okay... right? haha ![]()
Stacey - Have you tried the Cooking Light book or magazine?
My living situation...job..I live with my fiance. We are getting married next July. I am a teacher, so I am off for the summer, which is nice. One good thing is I have been able to workout more. It hasn't done much in terms of weight loss, but whatever.
Sarah - I have been doing pilates once a week since I have been off in the summer and I like it quite a bit. I think you will enjoy it...let me know! For. me, I actually count it as my rest or off day because I like it so much
I have tried Cooking light actually and I do thinks it's great. I also subscribe to the Hungry Girl newsletter, which is pretty interesting and entertaining. She has a lot of fun recipes (although some of them call for pretty random things in small quantities and you may eventually find your pantry overflowing)
My living situation is that I have a roommate but my boyfriend and I live 3 blocks from each other so I'm at his place half the time, and the other half he's at mine. Pretty convenient. My work is sometimes demanding and sometimes not. Today it's not, which is why I can post so much as well. But don't be concerned if you don't hear from me for a day or so.
I'll not be leaving the group anytime soon!
starbuck: I'm so glad you like Pilates so much...it puts my mind at ease when I hear about how much people like it. Plus, all the celebs do it and they're skinny, right? ![]()
