NEW 15-20 lbs. club (CLOSED - to keep it small)

Quote  |  Reply

All the groups that I have come across are from February so I decided to start a new topic.

I am looking for a couple women, age 20-30 who are interested in losing about 15-20 lbs. We don't all have to be the same but it would be nice if we were close to the same stats.

I am 21, 5'3" and about 150 lbs. That is WAY too heavy for me. I can't believe I am 150 lbs. I have always hovered around 145 lbs but I dont know why this summer has been so rough to me.

I am going to start teaching school in November and I have lots of really cute clothes that I want to look great in, they fit now but they are a little snug (size 6!) so anyone that wants to get committed and receive some real support POST and tell us your ups, downs, struggles, worries and maybe we can help!

A little bit about me:  I'm engaged and will be getting married next September.  My 20 pounds goal is largely motivated by my wedding- specifically, I'd like to lose 20 pounds before dress shopping (and keep it off until the wedding).  My fiance and I do not live together because we decided a long time ago we didn't want to live together until we were married (something to look forward to), but he stays over Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights on most weeks.  He eats a lot more than I do AND he doesn't like most healthy foods (vegetables).  It gets frustrating because he'll be like, "Uh oh.  I gained 5 pounds." and then he'll use the stairs at work for a week and drop it lickity split.  Anyway, it does get hard to prepare healthy meals that he'll like (I should also mention that I'm a pescatarian and he loves his meat).  We LOVE going out to eat, so that is a challenge for me as well...  My job situation is good- I work 7am to 4pm which really works for me because I try to work out at home after work and then I still have time to make dinner and such.  In terms of losing weight:  I've gotten good at handling restaurants, good at revising recipes, good at following my calorie budget, BUT I am not very good at excersizing... it's my biggest challenge.  These groups tend to help motivate me, though.

So I have two questions for the group: #1 - If you have used the recipe analyzer how do you like it? I get frustrated with it. For example, I was talking earlier about making the quesadillas for dinner. All they included were mozz cheese, basil leaves, tomatoes and some garlic. CC recipe analyzer said they were almost 600 calories each. I still planned on making them, but decided I would only have half of one. As I was making them, I was looking at the calories on the back of the tortillas and cheese and counted everything up and I figure that each quesadilla could not be over 350 calories! I just don't get it! That is an excessive difference.

#2 - For those that cook - do you use extra virgin olive oil? I do like crazy, but am considering switching to a cooking spray to save on calories. What do you do?

I HATE the recipe analyzer!!!  Don't get me wrong, every once in a while, it works and that's convenient for meals I eat regularly, but for the most part I find it SOOOOO frustrating.  Several times I have tried to enter a recipe with ingredients I know is in CC (ie- boca breakfast patties) but the analyzer "can't find it" and what's the point of an inacurate recipe????  Plus a lot of basic foods like "brown rice" pull up with WAY more calories than the kind I buy.  So, in general, I can't stand the thing and get really frustrated when I put a bunch of time into getting a recipe into CC and then have to abort when it doesn't work out correctly.

I always cook with extra virgin olive oil instead of cooking spray.  I have an olive oil sprayer to help keep the oil to a minimum.  I find that cooking sprays leave a film on some of my bakeware and I rationalize the olive oil because of the health benefits.  I just always add a little bit of olive oil into my calorie count for my meals.

I don't live with my boyfriend but we do hang out and eat together a lot.  The cool thing is that, me going to the gym this past week has inspired him to go too!  He joined a gym a while back but hardly ever goes (we both need to lose weight).  So that's kind of nice because even though we don't work out together, I have an automatic support buddy for my new gym habit.

As far as jobs go...I graduated from college last year and automatically lost a few pounds from just not eating total junk.  But!  I stay late at my work all the time (till 7pm at least) and if you stay late, they buy you dinner.  It's gonna be hard passing up a free meal every day and trying to bring something with me to eat!  Since work takes up my days and evenings, that's why I'm trying to wake up early and excercise before work.

I'm sorry I don't have any recipes to share with you guys!

I don't have any great recipes to add to the bunch.  I don't do much cooking.  My fiance however is like Bobby Flay, he makes up new stuff all the time, elaborate recipes.  He is a very 'improv' cook.  I only follow recipes. Haha.

In either case, I live with my fiance.  We've been engaged for a year and a half.  Living together for 2 years, been together for almost 3.  We have a townhouse in a nice area.  Great place for my daughter to be raised.  My daughter is 4 1/2 and has a wonderful father who I was married to and am now divorced.  We get along great however.  I was a stay-at-home mom for 2 years when I was married to my ex-husband.

For my job, I am an administrative assistant for a painting company.  I love it here.  It is very family oriented, laid back and they work well with me leaving for child functions and pretty much anything else.  I have been working here for over 2 years now.

I plan on going back to school to be a high school english teacher when my daughter is grown.  I refuse to let anything cut into the time I have with her right now.  I don't see her enough as is because of working full-time so I have decided to put my education on hold until she is older.

I think that's about it for now.  I am usually on here all day because my 'busy' times at work are in spurts usually.

I would love to participate in the women loosing weight!

I also live with my finance and need to loose weight before our wedding, next year. I am stuck in that 145+ weight and am only 5'3". I need to get down to 127. ugh! You girls have some great ideas and would love to join!

My fiance is making me fat and hates the gym....girls come together to make it happen!

Hey guys,

I actually like the recipe analyzer but you have to have some time to commit to it. I always view what food they have entered in then change the wording until its what I am actaully eating. I don't think its the holy grail or anything but it is pretty good at an estimate.

I only use spray for lining baking sheets or something like that. I used olive oil for everything!

I subscribed to Cooking Light yesterday (peer pressure haha) and I'm excited! I always love the cooking parts of my women's health and so I'm super pumped that there is a whole magazine about cooking healthy!

Is anyone else a women's health reader? I have been for about 2 years now, I love it! They just started these "20 minute workout series" and they are rip out little books to bring to the gym. I tried the "Tone Zone" one yesterday, and I cannot bend over and I hurt all over... I LOVE IT!! I skipped the run I was planning this morning and relaxed before work (I worked at 11am) but I biked to work instead. My boyfriend is going swimming tonight with a buddy so I'll be home alone until about 9 so I think I might get a little run in anyways.

How often does everyone weigh themselves? Are we only doing Thursday? Because thats a good idea but I just cant help stepping on the scale in the morning... and I did this morning and it read 147! Thats down 3 pounds.

My biggest pit fall is snacking at night, it is SOOOO hard not to just grab a handful of something, it doesn't matter what it is, even if I'm not hungry... anyone else with this problem? I have started asking myself "Am I really hungry?" every time I go to grab something to eat and that seems to be working. If I am, if I'm not, I dont. It sounds easy... but its hard!!

Hope everyones having a great day!

Jessie messaged me and said that she needed to lose weight for her wedding next week so I thought that she was a fad crazy person but she must have meant next YEAR.

Should we take one more and make it 8? Group decision...

You sound like you are me!

Yes, I do the snacking at night.  It's really not much but it's stuff I know I don't need.

I weigh myself everyday.  I know I shouldn't.  When I first got back on track, I promised myself I would only do it once a week.  Well, that didn't work.  I can't help it!

And as far as number 8 - I am all for it.

I've never been in one of these clubs and don't even know how to navigate through the site. I have only used the food/activity/weight counters. I am currently 5'4" and 150 lbs but with a really athletic build (something I feel like I am going to be stuck with - thanks genetics). I start teaching in a few weeks and have been trying to loose the weight but it is hard to stay motivated when my husband is constantly questioning my weight loss methods. I tried to maintain a 1200 kcal diet at beginning of year and was successful, losing about 10 lbs one month. However, then birthday season came around and I ballooned up. I am again trying to maintain my 1200 kcal diet but this time am exercising more and have enlisted a trainer for weights. Does anyone have any tips on ways to shed more weight? I would honestly like to be 115 lbs again (the weight I was when I met my husband).... but we will see if I can get there.

Sorry Jewls, this club is closed already. Good luck with your journey!

Hey everyone! Today has been a crazy day and my eating is pretty awful today. I slept awful last night so I woke up exhausted. I didn't feel like eating anything until about 10:30. I decided to have pita and hummus. Then I was off to get a facial! My fiance bought me a gift certificate so I went today. It was incredible. So, I ate a south beach granola bar on the way to stop hunger later. Of course when I came home at about 3:30 I was STARVING! My fiance is working late so I won't eat dinner until about 7:30. As I mentioned before I try and eat salad every day for lunch but somedays are so hard. Some days, like today I would rather starve than eat a salad. So, I ate a healthy choice soup and had some asparagus left over from yesterday...still starving! I might have a yogurt to hold me over and that is it. This truly is my downfall though. I put off eating and then I get so hungry later on I eat like crap. I'm not doing it today!

Your choices aren't bad there just isn't enough calories in this day! But that's an easy fix. A couple handfuls of nuts are really high in calories and protein so they pack quite a nutritional punch. They can rack up your calories and fend off your hunger AND they are very convenient. I have been on a banana and peanut butter kick lately. It's such a great snack with a big glass of water really keeps me full.

Have you ever had Luna bars? They are SO damn good and are very balanced (unlike a low-carb south beach bar). On a crazy day like today, you don't really need to be focused on low-carb you should be concerned about getting your carbs in!

You are right though starbuck (name?) sometimes it is just too busy to get all the eating in but like I said it's really easy to grab some nuts and a balanced protein bar and maybe a peice of fruit?

I think all and all you did good. At least you didn't turn to McDonald's or something right?!

I'm fine with having 8 people in the group.

It sounds like we have a lot of people getting ready for their weddings!  Congratulations :)  I have a wedding to *attend* in a little over 5 weeks.  I know it's too soon to achieve my goal (10-15), but hopefully I'll have some noticeable results by then!

As far as the past 2 days for me...check on eating the correct amount of calories and check on waking up early and attending spin class!

Looks like a couple of us are cool with having a 8th person. Now we are offically closed (I've had about 4 other people ask to come in)!

Welcome Jessie everyone!

Hi All!

Thanks so much for adding me to the Girl's Club! I am so excited to start my journey to becoming skinny again!! Laughing

My situation is quite crazy. I am in product management and worked for nike and adidas for years. Adi just did a huge lay off and I was affected. So this summer has been really hard for me. I was supposed to get married in Sept but had to postpone my wedding due to finances! Drag....

So, we are planning on next spring for the wedding! I am an avid runner, cycler, yoga. But I think the stress from work and now not working has caught up to me! I ran a marathon almost 2 years ago and am now up almost 20lbs since that! NOT GOOD! I am 31 years old and living with my fiance that would eat all day if I let him! I am 5'3 and 150! I was like....what?! I need to invest in a scale and see what this is all about. I would love to get down to 127 per cc. I know I have a lot of muscle and have always weighed more than you would think, but this is too much. I need to also do measurements of my body. Has anyone done that yet?

Today was a pretty good day for eating. I did have a job interview about 60 miles away so I was good and brought a power bar and apple for snacks in the car. My biggest thing is soda. I drink about 1-2 cokes a day because I don't drink coffee. But the calories are killing me! I am down to 1 or I am trying diet (gross!).

Thanks again girls. I look forward to this journey with you.

Where do we post our weigh ins??

Jessie - I switched to diet coke and diet soda products within the past 6 months and now I couldn't imagine drinking a regular soda.  It's strange to me.  I also used to be the person who couldn't drink coffee without at LEAST a tablespoon of sugar in my cup, now I use 2 packets of splenda and it tastes so much better that way.  It's strange how when we adapt different eating habits, we end up liking at least most of them.

Welcome to the group by the way.

Hi everybody!  Thursdays weight ins sounds good to me too.  Sorry I'm not very active but that's just the way I am.  I am very determined this time to loose in a slow healthy pace.  Good luck to everyone and keep it up!!  I binged last night by the way.... a lot.  lovinmylife 24 I have the same problem.  Evenings and weekends are so hard for me.  I eat so much and most of the times I can't control it.  I'll do my best this time though.  I'll update on Thursday.

Tomorrow is weigh-in day!!!

It's hard to not weigh myself every day, but I try really hard to only do it once a week.  It's too easy for me to get frustrated with water weight or other factors when I weigh myself every day.

I am pretty proud of myself because last night the fiance wanted to get fast food for dinner.  We went to Jack in the Box and I got the Southwest Salad without chicken (I'm a pescatarian) and the low-fat balsamic dressing.  It was a HUGE salad and I was stuffed afterwards.  It only had about 300 calories, though.  Anyway, it was really hard to resist those stuffed jalapenos, french fries, breakfast sandwiches... BUT, I did it.

Now if I could only get myself to excersize...  I also think I need a new scale.  A digital one.  I don't trust the one I'm using right now...

Wish me luck- I'm meeting friends for dinner tonight and tomorrow night- EEK!

20lbs2bodaciousbride you did GREAT!!!

It is so hard when the finance wants to have a crappy dinner and you have no energy to play the dinner game! I give you 2 thumbs up! You will do great meeting friends! You are really on the right track. Just watch the alcohol. I can't believe how much those calories add up....wow!

I also need to get a digital scale. It would be so much easier and precise in doing weigh-ins. I hate scales, but I guess we need to get on the right track here and love them after we are down 20lbs!!

Exercise will come. Try doing something you love and you will burn calories while doing it. If you like being outside play tennis or go on a hike, or maybe take a walk with your man after dinner. Just get your heart rate up atleast 30 min a day and it will really help in your numbers. Good luck tonight!

Lovinmylife24-

I know what you mean with diet coke. I have started with diet sunkist and sprite..they are still sweet and I can handle them. I am just so used to regular soda that diet is horrible. I am trying though!! We can DO IT!!!Foot in mouth
