NEW 15-20 lbs. club (CLOSED - to keep it small)
All the groups that I have come across are from February so I decided to start a new topic.
I am looking for a couple women, age 20-30 who are interested in losing about 15-20 lbs. We don't all have to be the same but it would be nice if we were close to the same stats.
I am 21, 5'3" and about 150 lbs. That is WAY too heavy for me. I can't believe I am 150 lbs. I have always hovered around 145 lbs but I dont know why this summer has been so rough to me.
I am going to start teaching school in November and I have lots of really cute clothes that I want to look great in, they fit now but they are a little snug (size 6!) so anyone that wants to get committed and receive some real support POST and tell us your ups, downs, struggles, worries and maybe we can help!
So I went to the store and invested in a scale today. I never knew that scales could cost so much! Wow. But I decided that I had to go digital to get the right end result. But now it is in kgs and not lbs and I am trying to figure out how to change it. I went online to convert it.
I had a really good week and then I went over to my parents and had fish and a salad, but then my finance (the sweet tooth) went and got a cake and wanted a starch. Killing me! I had a little risotto and 2 bites of red velvet cake, my favorite! Tonight we are going to a soccer game downtown, so this should be interesting and I HAVE to be good!

I lb down! only 23 more to go!!
I just bought a digital scale on my lunch hour... I just really wanted something more accurate than me squinting at a little dial pointing somewhere between 124 and 145!! Hopefully when I get it home and try it out I won't have any nasty surprises!!
Jessie- You keep calling your fiance a "finance." Is that a cute nickname you have for him because he's your moneybags??? LOL.
I'm going out to dinner tonight with some friends, so everyone wish me luck... I wish I knew where we were going so I could prepare, but the other couple is picking the restaurant. Here's hoping they have some good veggie/fish dishes that aren't fried or smothered in creamy, cheesey goodness!!
bodaciousbride- thanks for the catch. I didn't even realize. LOL I must have money on the mind. Wish he were my sugar daddy!
Good luck with your weigh in! My scale is still showing kgms and I keep reading the directions to change it to lbs, but it isn't changing. Great, now I have to bring the devil (the scale) back to the store and get a new one.
Now it is showing that I have lost 2.5 lbs. I just need to put the thing down.
Have a good one ladies.
J.
By the way, those enchilatas are AMAZING! I made 4 and had one for supper and one for lunch today and they are DELICIOUS! I recommend everyone try it! And they are only about 450 calories!
Hope everyone is having a great day.
I just want to make sure I know everyone's names:
Jessie=Jessie (you prefer J?)
bodacious=Laura
Lovingmylife=Lauren
Saraln=Sara
starbuck=??
lostjadis=??
g1rl=??
and I'm Stacey.
Let me know if I got anything wrong and fill in my ??
I figure we should be on a first name basis not just a screen name basis haha.
Later ladies!
What should I do?????
Hey Catherine,
How often you weigh yourself is totally up to you and your own personal philosophy but here is some food for thought.
Pant size, measurements and how you are feeling are all really important indicators of health but so is weight. And if you never check how are you supposed to keep yourself in check? I find that so many people avoid a scale so they don't have to answer to the scale but in the end, it never lies. If you have been keeping track and staying within your calories AND working out, you will lose weight. Its a really simple calories in, calories out equation but if you find the scale doesnt move, or it goes up, you should consider what you are doing.
Imagine you work really hard for a month, get on the scale and nothing happens, you gained or stayed the same, wouldn't you of like to catch the mistakes you were making 3 weeks prior so you could have adjusted your habits? Sometimes the calories are too much or too little, you have to know whats happening in your body to adjust it. What CC or any other calculator online says may not be right for your body and the only way to know if it is or not is to check.
I find weekly weigh-ins very informative and helpful, if I gain, I know I did something wrong (and in most cases, i did!) and I can adjust things. If I lost I know I did something right and I will continue down the path I was on.
But the final decision is up to you. Good luck!
Just please be there for me if I jump on the scale tomorrow and it is more than 138....that was my weight two weeks ago and I will freak if it is higher or the same. I will be happy if it is 137. I'll let you know tomorrow! Wish me luck!
Catherine, don't be so worried. We're all in this together right?! I'm sure we'll have a lot of ups and downs.
Hey everybody,
My name is Vevica. Nice to meet you everybody. I am posting today because I messed up. It is only 8.30 am and I had a 600 calories breakfast. I did really good yesterday and my last meal was just right after the gym (7.30 pm)and this morning I woke up starving. Usually i wait untill I get to work to eat but today I couldn't and for some reason I thought (i hope is right) is better to eat when I'm hungry that overcome it and mess my metabolism up. Now I'm kind of upset and I'm scared that will destroy (eatingwise) my whole day and I'll overeat. Plus my collegue brought some home-made lasagna for lunch and those have huge amounts of calories and it will be so wrong to say no- We eat all together on Fridays and everybody will notice if I say no. On the other hand I already binged on Tuesday and I don't want to do it again until next week (yes, I liked the idea of eating 1800 once a week). I LOVE FOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!
Hi Catherine,
I agree with Stacey. Avoiding the scale isn't going to make weight gain not true, and ignorance is not always bliss!
Maybe you should start doing measurements too just in case your weight does go up...maybe you measurements will be going down and you can feel better about things. We've all heard it before that muscle weighs more than fat, so it can be a little experiment to tell if you're gaining because of muscle!
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Weekends are the hardest for me to stay on track, especially when away from home, so wish me luck and I wish everyone the same!
Hi Stacey,
I am a Jess, Jessie; but I always sign my emails J. (no idea why!)
Thanks for asking. I totally agree that we should be on a first name basis. It is much more personal while we go through this journey together.
I went to a professional Soccer Game with my fiance and friends last night and was pretty good. It was "Thirsty Thursday" so beer was really cheap. I made him stop at Subway for dinner so we wouldn't eat bad food and then I only had 1 $2 beer!! It was hard and I wanted another on that perfect night, but that was it. AND it was a lite beer (or course!) And no snacks...the hardest for me!!
Alright ladies. Enjoy your weekend. Lets try and be good and we all know that the weekends are the hardest. I finally got my scale to be in lbs! I weighed again this morning to see if it were still working and it shows me down 4lbs. WOW! On the right track. I have decided to do personal weigh ins on Monday (after the weekend to make sure I am on track) and Thursdays with the group. Just an idea for everyone.
Has everyone taken measurements? As Stacey as mentioned before this is not all about weight but how you feel and how your clothes fit. I need to place my measurements somewhere but wasn't sure if anyone else has done this.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
Jess.

Hey Vevica,
I think that eating when you are hungry is very important. If you dont, you'll just over eat later. It's okay to have a high calorie morning, it just depends on what it is and how full it will make you. Maybe zig-zagging would be right for you so you can change up your calories and have some legitimately high calorie days. But if your hungry again before lunch, have a snack. And go ahead and have lasagna but limit yourself to how much you are eating. Have a tiny piece and drink lots of water so your full half way through the meal. People can't be made if your full and cant eat that much.
Today is my cheat day! I am on a 1800 calorie day and it's going to be sweet! I had froot loops for breakfast (because I have the day off, its my cheat day and I couldn't resist!) but I stuck to 300 cals for breakfast. I am going for lunch with my co-workers at a local spa and they have amazing healthy food there so I am not worried and then I think my boyfriend and I are getting pizza or something tonight and then going to the movie, and I'm having popcorn!
Does everyone agree with cheat days?
I am going to the gym today AND tomorrow. I went for a really long bike ride last night and did ab exercises while me and my roommate watched TV (and she was eating popcorn!). I feel I'm on track and I'm so excited to treat myself today. Cheat days rock!!
HAPPY FRIDAY LOVELY LADIES and good luck to all of you that have really hard times on the weekend and going camping/outdoors stuff etc. I work all weekend so it's not going to be hard, working and eating is easiest. It's just hard when your at home!
This weekend shouldn't be too difficult. We usually have plans every weekend but this weekend...none. My ex husband has my daughter from Saturday at 10am until Sunday at 12pm. I will be cleaning, exercising, walking, etc. I am definitely going to stick to my calories and feel proud! I must log manually on the weekends because I don't have a computer at home. Well, I have a computer, just no internet.
Jess - I have my measurements. I didn't take them this week though. I will start again on Monday. That's when I usually do it. I have a flexible tape measure so it's easy to take measurements. Some are harder than others to take though so I think it may vary a bit from that.
I think my fiance and I will be doing some serious walking this weekend (everytime I am in the mood to go for a walk, he joins). I really want to start playing tennis too. We have a tennis court across the street and I've been saying for 3 years that I want to start. Just haven't bought the equipment yet. I think I may go to play-it-again sports for a raquet. No use in paying unless I get really into it. We try to meet up with friends on Wednesdays to play Volleyball for an hour or so too. That's fun even though beer is a staple. Haha.
Have a great weekend all and hope that everyone reaches whatever goals they set for the next coming week!
Jess - That is so great that you did so wonderful at the game! You should be so proud of yourself.
I am not a cheat day person because I feel like everyday I indulge in something little...or whenever I feel like it. It just depends on what kind of day I had food wise or if I really need something extra. I can't really plan on having a cheat day..The only thing I do is to plan two days of allowing myself alcohol. So, I guess those are my cheat days. Alcohol is my biggest weakness. I haven't had a drink since Sunday, which is really good for me. Tonight we are going to dinner and I plan on having a few. WHICH I hope these few drinks will be celebratory for losing..at least a pound.
Ok..well I'm off to the gym!
I have to "cheat" in some way or I lose my mind and get depressed and feel deprived. I kind of go back and forth between an extra hundred calories or so each day or, be really good all week and have a "cheat" day on the weekend. I have slower weight loss than the other time I dieted and was super dilligent about everything, but I'd rather have the slower weight loss and not be depressed than lose two pounds a week, but fall horribly off the wagon because I feel miserable.
My goal is to work out for an hour after work today. I have to write that on here because "publishing" those goals kind of make me hold myself to them...
I kind of already had a "cheat" day this week, but tomorrow will be a boozey day that will pack on the calories... I'm hoping to balance it out by eating mostly low-calorie veggies.
Does anyone have much experience with logging mixed drinks on CC? I make this alcoholic punch that has a variety of stuff in it and I have no clue how to log it. Sometimes with foods I have to substitute items- like if I eat a vegetable burrito from a locally owned restaurant, I just log one from a chain on CC. Is there something on here that you guys think might be a good calorie substitute to log my punch? It is a big batch: one jug of pre-made hurricanes, two cartons of orange peach mango juice, one jug of rum, two bottles of champagne, one 2-liter bottle of sprite... We put it all in a 5-gallon cooler and the whole party drinks off of it. Any guesses as to the calories per glass?
One reason also could be that I have cut out alcohol quite a bit.
As with logging mixed drinks..you could just log each alcohol or whatever you put in it separately. I haven't had anything funky in awhile, so I don't know. But when I have something like rum and coke I even find that difficult because I usually have coconut rum and can never find anything similar. But I guess one major lesson I have learned so far..in just two weeks...is to just log as best you can and overestimate if you have to. I always feel it is better to think the worst when logging calories.
Catherine-
That is so great!
It might be water weight, but you weighed in the middle of the day and it is usually higher then. You would be really sad to see how many calories are in alcohol...wow! I am so proud of you! Keep it up.
I am not one for cheat days either. I feel like I splurge on a little something every once in a while any ways. It makes me feel sane and happy! I love being on track and know that there are results to be made.
Hey girls,
My view on cheat days (and it has really helped me!). I was the here-and-there cheater too. A handful of this and a handful of that every once in awhile but I read this article where they gave 10 women a ziploc bag and said every time you grab a handful of something, put a handful of it in here. And by the end of the week they added up the calories is their "grab bags" and one women was up to like 2000 calories and "grab" stuff. I was doing the same thing. I ate healthy all the time so if I wanted to indulge every once in awhile, I would. The problem was, I wasn't losing any weight and I thought that it may be because my "grabs" or little cheat here and there were really adding up. So I stopped, to control it. Because if you think back to how much you cheated this week, it was more than one meals worth of cheats.
So now I cheat on one day a week, Friday or Saturday night and thats it. No little grabs or cheats during the week. If it's not on Friday or Saturday cheat night, I don't have it. And it's really working for me!
Hope your all having great weekends, unlike me, stuck at work!
I do my best to avoid getting hungry doing the day. I eat every few hours and always have a south beach granola bar handy in case I am somewhere and I am starving. I have been so addicted to hummus lately, so that has been my afternoon snack. I toast up some whole wheat pita with it and it is soooo good! I tried hummus a long time ago and hated it, but recently tried it again and went for the flavored kind and fell in love. What are your favorite healthy snacks?
Your right, it is totally about individual preference and what works for you.
I love fruit. Sounds weird but I just love grapes, I can snack on them all day long! I also like frozen grapes, they take forever to eat and a cold treat. I really like frozen unsweetened apple sauce too.
But if I really want a snack, I'll usually just chug some water to fill me up and then sip on a diet pop. I love Crush pop like cream soda and grape.
Another really tasty snack I like is reduced-fat triscuits with salsa.
Or a small banana with a tbsp of light peanut butter. Thats delicious!
I also love sugar free, fat free pudding, vanilla. I wish they made pistachio low fat, sugar free, but they dont!
This is good. We should all make a list of healthy snacks because everyone needs variety!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
