NEW for 2008 - 40 LBS to Lose Club - GROUP NOW CLOSED!!! (sorry)

Quote  |  Reply
All -- this is a continuation of the original 40 LBS to lose club started by JDBECKERS.  Due to the inactivity of the thread starter as well as the drop out of some of it's members, it was decided that we would begin a new thread.

We are looking for people who are SERIOUS about coming to check in, taking the weekly challenges seriously, offering support and asking for it when needed.  Weigh-in's will be on Friday.  Some of us no longer have 40 LBS left to lose, but because that is where we started and how we initially bonded, we are continuing with that title.

All those interested:  Please include the following information - we would like true starting points for everyone -- I will include my own information first.

Age:  32
Ht:  5' 5"
Current weight:  165
Goal weight:  135 - 140
Starting weight:  189
Weaknesses:  chocolate, sweets and bread.

I look forward to hearing from you all and being an encourager to help everyone (including myself) reach their goals!!!

I almost forgot!!!
1/2/08 Challenge:  Stop beating yourself up over holiday indulgences.  Restart one healthy habit from pre holiday 2007 (or before that if necessary!)  :)
1/7/08 Challenge:  Get to the gym (or your workout equivalent at least 3 times this week.  Whatever your workout is - GIVE IT YOUR ALL! :)
1/14/08 Challenge:  Fit in an extra serving of fruit or veggies every day this week (which means you will ultimately have to eat the required daily allowance, THEN an extra serving daily)!
1/21/08 Challenge:  Log EVERYTHING that you eat on this week - from the biggest thing to the smallest - even bites of something count.  It is not necessary to use the log on CC, and estimates are fine.  Good luck!
2/4/08 Challenge:  Make ONE VERY AMBITIOUS goal for yourself and make small changes to reach it.  Let us know what the goal is - maybe others can offer advice/tips on how to help you reach it!
2/18/08 Challenge:  Do something good for your body today - it can be anything from making a doctors appointment to check on an ache or pain, to having a mani/pedi/or facial to give your winter skin some relief, or exercising a little longer/harder/faster to get it to fighting stage.  It is your call!
3/3/08 Challenge:  Try one new exercise on this week.  Feel free to alert the group to exercises you enjoyed, or really felt the burn... the goal being to shock your body into giving you a loss.  Good luck!

The asterisk is for one of the original members who hasn't checked in yet...  An official welcome to you all.  As some of the original members can attest to - I have been known to pm  if I see that you haven't checked in for a while just to make sure all is well and to get you back on track.  No one has complained yet :)

Didn't get to log in yesterday. Yesterday was 132.4. got on the treadmil this morning while conditioning my hair, so I did in fact exercise 5 days this week. 132.4 weight is an all time low, but I must be careful because I am supposed to be maintaining not loosing and I don't want to be underweight. however I must be close to finding my balance.

Diva and shan food.  i know ya'll can do it!  I didn't think I could do it before, and here I am.  Maintaining presents a new set of challenges than taking the weight off, so i hope you all will keep posting when you are in the maintenance phase so we can help eachother out.

The choices become more difficult to make sometimes, when there is no goal in sight for example, but by keeping focused on our goals and sticking together we can all do it.

Diva don't beat yourself up!  Look at how far you have come!!

I ran again today. I'm starting to get in the routine of it, so it's not so bad any more. I uped my running and did the 5k in 47 minutes. So I'm improving! I also did my yoga. That is my reward to myself for running. I love to stretch!

I've been better at logging my food the last week. I'm adding it to my goals for this week.

My goals for this week are: go to track 4 days, do yaga 5 days, drink 8 cups of water a day, log all food 7 days, weigh 156.

Mahogany - I never stopped to think about having to change things once I hit my goal. It seems obvious, but I have only focused on getting to my goal, not how I'm going to maintain once I get there. I'm glad you are blazing the trail for me. And I can't wait to be more of a support to you once I get there.

Dive - how are you? your life is always crazy, hope you are doing ok!

Hi all!!! Happy Monday... PHEW last week was CRAZY!!!  I had a very good weekend not food wise - I relaxed, did some real estate work which was exciting... and relaxed some more!!!  I am in the running for prom queen at the church... I am selling $1 tickets as part of our competition and the proceeds are going towards building a youth center in back of our church... see the link below for what we plan to do!

As for food - I did TERRIBLE THIS WEEKEND... I didn't even weigh in today for fear of what that dastardly scale would say... I don't know what got into me - but every manner of candy and sweet thing that came my way I HAD TO HAVE IT!!!

So hopefully I will get the all clear today on my knee, and I can go back to the gym and back to my track and get it going - I really wanna go for a run today, so we will see!

http://www.sprung.com/en/IndustryGallery/Home .php?indId=20

Diva....don't feel bad.  I had 4 slices of thick crust papa john's on saturday, and I also had a brownie sunday.

BUTTTTT...I also exercised my but off on the weekend.  Got on the scale this morning at it read 131.6  No lie.......I didn't mean to loose this weight, and I'm trying to go back the other way.

I'm not saying this to gloat.  I'm sayign this to say, as long as your routine is in order, even if you gained a few lbs. it will be gone by mid week.  I PROMISE YOU.  take my word for it.

Back to the straight and narrow tonight, chicken, green beans, rice, and one slither of a hershey bar for desert!  You're doing fine I'm sure diva!

Mahogany - thanks for the encouragement - I am glad that you still come by and support us all - we need you girl!!!

So the doc said my screws are aggravating the muscle/fat in the lower half of my femur... so those screws will have to GO.  He said to lay off my running, which made me especially sad because I have been enjoying my outside run so much... I guess it had to come  to an end though, the high schoolers will be invading the track next week!

I did get good news yesterday - hubby went to the nutritionist and she is confident that if he gets on the eating plan and stays on it, he can regulate his blood sugars much better, lose the weight AND hopefully get off insulin!  YAY hubby!!! Kiss

Tonights workout will consist of going grocery shopping for foods that fit hubby's new meal plan and pulling weeds in the back yard.

Diva I love how real you are. I am so glad I have you to keep me going.

I made it to the track again. I took 3 days off. It felt good, I probably could have pushed myself a bit more. I'm going to try again tomorrow. My time today was 45 minutes. I'm getting there!

I've been good about logging my food, but not so good on getting in all my water. I need to figure that one out better.

Hope you are doing ok.

~Shannon

AWWW Shan, I love you guys!!! I am very happy that I am motivating people - even when I have a difficult time motivating myself!

So today's weigh in - 153.2... I had to check my calendar to be sure even though the pudge in my blouse and the cramps let me know... that time is fast approacing so I won't get myself all in a tizzy about that.  I am glad that hubby is eating better, it forces me to eat better too... so results should be POURING in soon!  He is down 2lbs already! :)  YAY HUBBY!!!

So tonight is prayer at the church from 7 - 9pm.  Tomorrow is jam packed with parent orientation tomorrow - I have a Senior and a FRESHMAN - where did my babies go!!!  UGH... and after that I have a bridal shower!!! YAY - I love weddings.  Such happy occasions and I am so happy for the bride and groom...  I have a couple weeks to get ready for the actual ceremony... I wonder if slim in 6 is hard on the joints... Anyone have any experience?

Diva, I have never tried slim in 6, but there use to be lots on it in the fitness forum, you could probably search it. It’s good to hear you and hubby are both eating well. It helps when you have that kind of support from and for each other.

Oh yeah, weigh in, I almost forgot.

Start weight: 160

Today: 156

Goal Weight: 120

So at least things are heading in the right direction.

I made our flight reservations for Hawaii yesterday!!! We were going to go a year ago, then Chris went missing and it was just to hard to leave. It is still going to be a bit weird to leave, but we know we can come home if anything comes up that we need to be here for. I should be close to my goal weight by the time we leave if I can keep up on everything. We are going to be there over Christmas. I am so excited.

I made it to the track again today. I tried to push myself. I ran my 5K in 43 minutes (2 less then yesterday). I'm taking Sunday off and on Monday I'll up my running distance. I am excited (and a bit scared) to see how it goes.

My goals for 08/09 - 08/15 were:

go to track 4 days, actual 3 days

do yaga 5 days, actual 3 days

drink 8 cups of water a day, actual averaged 3.5 cups a day

log all food 7 days, actual ALL 7DAYS!

weigh 156, actual 156!!

I hope you are having a good weekend.

Hello! I have missed you all so much on this site! I had such an amazing vacation in Arizona and California. It's taken some adjusting the last few days to get back into the swing of things, but it feels really good to be home. My 2 "big kids" start school tomorrow- 1st grade and Kindergarten. They'll be gone all day, so I'll just have my 2 little girls during all those daytime hours. Should be fun and very different to only have 2 around.

It's been fun to see how all of you are doing. Awesome job keeping up with the healthy  habits even during summer. It feels amazing to have such healthy habits.

I took my scale with me on vacation to Arizona because I wanted to keep track of how I was doing and keep myself in check. It worked! When I left July 15th, I weighed 152 pounds and today I weigh 148.2!!!! It feels so good. I'm registered to run a half marathon in October which is something I never thought my old dancer's body would be able to handle, but I know I can do it now. I've got to get more serious about my runs now that I'm home.

Hope you all have a great week. I'll be checking in much more often now!

Diva,

I love that your husband is trying the natural way to get his blood sugars in order.  My dad has had diabeties for maybe 10 or 15 years now, and he's able to keep it mostly under control by his diet.  He looks great too, even though he's thinner than I was growing up, where before he was musuclar.   And I agree diva that it helps so much when both partners are on the straight and narrow and having a healthy diet and lifestyle together.  Kudos to both of you!

Michele

Hi Everyone!!! I am so glad to have made onto this site today!!! I have been busy at work, busy at home, and sleeping in between...  I haven't been on my scale since last week - the 153 depressed me more than I wanted to admit.  I just need to be able to get in gear, but the knee is out of whack.  I promised myself I would do slim in 6 tonight, and for the next 2 nights then take a one night break.  I think I should be ok doing that...

Shan:  Kudos to you for meeting some of your goals!!! I don't ever put my goals in any clear form and thus rarely meet them so that is a fantastic job!  You will be at your goal weight in no time and certainly in time for vacation!!!

Mlejoygrn:  SO HAPPY YOU ARE BACK FROM AZ!!!  We missed you!  And I am totally stoked that you managed to stay on track while gone.  That must have taken a whole bunch of dedication and perserverence.  I am sure you will update us on your trip as you get a chance - and I LOVE THAT PIC IN THE BLACK DRESS!!!

Mahogany:  I am so looking forward to my healthier and SLIMMER hubby.  I know that a great deal of the weight he has gained has been directly caused by the insulin, and I am praying that as he is adjusting his amounts of insulin down at the direction of his dr. he can start seeing bigger results from his efforts.  I would love for him to drop 20lbs by our cruise - not for me but for him.  He is really self conscious about his body and he tries not to show it but i can tell.

Anyway, as this is the dreaded TOM week, I have been eating horribly, and I expect the scale to reflect it.  Am I the only one who is ravenous the week before?  I could throw everything in my fridge onto a plate, eat it all and still be looking for dessert.  My hubby calls it when my tapeworm comes to visit! :) he is cute, I will keep him.

Happy Wednesday ALL!!!

I only have a minute. I just read your posts. It is so great to see how everyone is doing.

I have been to the track three times this week. I took today off, I needed the rest. I have been good about loging my food, and I'm excited to see what the scale says tomorrow.

Diva - even though I shouldn't I keep chocolate around for that week. I know I'm going to need it, and we are all happier if I have it! So what if I don't drop weight that week, at least I didn't kill anyone!

mlejoygrn - way to keep up durring your trip! You are amazing! All of my kids are in school now. It is weird, but nice too. I like the routine. Summer seems so busy, then school starts and it seems busier. I'm not sure how that happens.

Good luck to you all.

~Shannon

Hi everybody.

Hope the weekend is treating you well. We are having a nice one. I actually ran 6.1 miles yesterday with my friend that I'm doing the  half marathon with. I've never run that far ever in my life! We did it in an hour and ten minutes which I thought wasn't too bad.

Keep up the great work and stay on track! Every day I love feeling so much healthier and I owe a lot of that to the support of this site. You guys rock!

I'll check in during the week. My hubby is going to San Diego for  a conference all week, so it's just me and the four little rascals! I may need chocolate and Ben & Jerry's!

Hey all!!! I am back from a weekend that left me thoroughly exhausted... and it is totally my own fault!!!  I agreed to do a bachelor's party at my house (which for our friends means they are coming over to play spades and dominos and video games and give advice from the married guys to the groom, and eat good food that the men folk have cajoled us women into cooking)... so I spent Friday preparing, and Saturday cleaning and cooking...  Yesterday after church hubby and I decided we needed a date night, so we went to Navy Pier, took a shoreline cruise tour, indulged in Wildfire steakhouse... walked back to the pier, and rode the ferris wheel, and then went to see Batman in the IMAX theater.... It was awesome...

I went to old navy on Saturday since all the guys were at my house and they had the cutest two piece swimwear on sale.  I bought two suits, and those are my goal for my vacation.  SOOOOOOOO I am back to logging everything, and measuring, and totally getting my butt in gear.  I am going to the gym tonight and since I decided that I need to put off any surgery until the end of the year, I am back on my program.  So by October 26, I fully expect to be 135lbs...  I can do this... I know I can.

Mlejoygrn:  back away from the ben & jerry's!!! :)

Hey diva, you are totally not alone with a ravenous appetite that time of the month.  I just finished my time.  i always gain 2 lbs with the water weight gain.  In addition during the week I must eat more to sustain myself since I am anemic, and as a result, pretty sickly that tie of the month.  it gets bad.  I called in sick on monday.  So I eat more because I'm starving and need the nutrients.  I think that's normal.  Remember we are supposed to burn 300 more calories per day on teh days when we are mensturating early.  Just eat moderately the week after (that's what I do) and you should be fine.

Happy Tuesday all!!! I am happy to be at work - happy to have a job, happy to be alive!!! I know - optimism so early in the week is frightening! :)

Anyway, I am just glad to be back on the saddle - going to the gym right after work today - yay me!!!  Going to get my run in or maybe try a spin class... they look pretty strenuous.. but I could just see how far I can go before I pass out! ;)

Hope you all have had a wonderful day, and I am going to change the thread some to eliminate those names of people who no longer come and check in with us.  I have been emailing some of them here and there, and have gotten no response.  SOOO... do you think we should invite a few more to join us or just leave it at the faithful few we have???  and I don't think any of us still have 40lbs to lose either.... you guys let me know what you think.  I am willing to go with the consensus!

Love you guys, have a great evening!

I have been sick the last few days. I have a cold. I have not ran nor logged food. I don't feel much like eating though. I do feel better today then I did yesterday, so I'm hoping I'll be back to normal soon.

Diva - I too know you can be ready for your cruise! That is going to be so exciting.

As far as new members or just the few of us, there is always good and bad to both. I like that I know who is here and that I'm not trying to keep track of what 30 people are doing. It is also nice to have more people cheer you on. I know I jumped in late, and I have loved being so accepted. So no matter what you do I'm ok with it.

mlejoygrn - how is it going on your own? My husband works away from home some weeks. I try to find the good in it and make it to the weekend. We have 4 kids at home, but all of them are big enough to take care of themselves. I like this stage.

I hope you are all doing well.

~Shannon

It's Tuesday night and all the kids are asleep. Hallelujah! Hats off to every single mom out there. I am so grateful for my husband and the support that he offers. Even though he is SOOOO busy with grad school, I at least have the emotional support I need!

So, anyway, things are going well in the Green Household without Dad. I am getting my runs in, but the eating is terrible! I have gotten really lazy with logging since I got back from vacation which is bad. I justify myself by thinking  that I'm running so much that I doin't really need to log as strictly, but it is good to double check on things!

Also, I don't know what to tell you all about changing our group. I feel like a pretty tight knit group to support eachother now. It's nice to know that when I don't check in, I'm missed, and that I get excited to see how you're all doing and be inspired by you! At the same time, I don't know how long I'll be losing weight now because Green #5 is on the way! I just barely found out a few days ago. Besides my hubby and I, you're the only people who will know till we get through the 1st trimester. We are thrilled and just a little anxious. We know that the Lord knows what we can handle and hope all goes well and this little one is healthy! I'll keep you posted.

Keep up the great work! I'm gonna keep training for my half marathon and still reach that goal! I've got a 1 hour run tomorrow. Have a great Wednesday!

CONGRATS MLEJOYGRN!!!  SO VERY EXCITED TO KNOW THAT SOME ARE STILL IN THE BABY MAKING BUSINESS!!!  My factory was shut down after the last production! Laughing

SHAN:  Feel better honey!! My allergies have been bothering everyone in my household... we are all sneezy and coughy and headachey together!

I agree about adding to the group - I just don't want you guys to leave me all alone!!!  I know that we support one another, and I know that we miss each other when one goes on hiatus... maybe that is better than having a larger group.  I am ok with leaving things as they are!

So last night I went to the gym... I had to after my little cookie binge... You must know your limitations people!!! I went to CVS intending on buying myself a little treat because I was way under calories and knew I was heading to the gym.  So, instead of a LITTLE treat, I bought myself a BOX of Divine Raspberry Creme Shortbread Cookies... I ate 2.5 servings... a whopping 400 calories all told!!!  BUT then I went to the gym and burned 685 calories per my heart rate monitor!!!  This morning when I looked at my log vs my burn, I ate way to LITTLE yesterday... my net calories for the day was like 755 TOTAL!

So I am going to have to make sure that I eat a little more after the gym tonight, and not 400 calories in COOKIES (although they are divine.... this is why I don't keep sweets in the house and only bake around the holidays)

Guess what? It's Friday! That means my better half comes home tonight! Wooohoooo! It's already been quite a busy day. I did my long run today since it's a holiday weekend and tomorrow wasn't going to work out. Last week it was 6.1 miles. Today 7.25 Miles!!!!!! I am feeling so empowered!

My weigh in for this week is 149.6. If I wasn't running so much I know I would be back in the 150's because of how terribly I've been eating! Thank goodness for at least some excercise motivation.

Have a great weekend y'all and keep on keepin' on!
