Hi, my name is Lorri, and I just found this site. I really like it, especially the recipe calculator function -- I mostly cook my meals, so it will be nice to get the nutritional info easily figured out for my recipes!! (Which I will cheerfully share, of course!)
I'm 49, will be 50 in June, and have battled my weight literally all my life. I was reasonably healthy until I was 45, then all of a sudden my body said ENOUGH!!! I developed in rapid succession high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, and so many body aches and pains that I couldn't do what little exercise I had been doing, and my weight ballooned to 343 lbs on a 5'6" frame.
In November 2004 I had gastric bypass surgery, and since then have lost about 90 lbs, to 255 today. I've been on a 6 month plateau, stuck at 250 - 255 lbs no matter what I did. I had cut my calories back to 900 - 1000 a day, and was running a mile 3 times a week, with no loss at all.
Went to the doctor yesterday to find out what was going on, and she like to died when she saw my food log. At 900 - 1000 cal a day, I was eating too little!!!!! No one, much less a DOCTOR, has ever told me I was eating too little!!
So now I'm under strict orders to increase my calories to 1500 a day by adding a couple of high protein/low glycemic index snacks, and to start weight training. I started today with the higher calories (which is a struggle with my surgery, it feels like I've been eating all day long and I still have 600 calories to get in today), and I'll be starting the weight training as soon as I get an appt with the trainer my doctor recommended.
I'm looking forward to using this community as a tool, much like my surgery gave me a tool for rapid weight loss initially. The surgical tool will help me keep it off, but I need to use the dietary tool and behavior modification tool to get there from here.
Here's to us all!

Hey Lorri, I will be 40 shortly and I too have been at this battle my entire life. This is the last time I fight this fight. I have a part off CC for a year (as of tomorrow). Let me tell you, you have come to the right place.
Be sure to log your food daily. That way you are sure to stay on track. I would eat too little for the longest time. CC made me realize I need to eat. Wow who knew?
Also make sure you stay hydrated. Drink that water.
See you around!
