New and Looking for some support

Quote  |  Reply

Hello everyone. Well this is my first time posting on this web site. I've been eyeing this site for the past few weeks and it is now time. Lets explain things...

So at the moment i am 165 (i know it seems like nothing to some people on here) but i am only 5'3" and this makes me "overweight". My goal is to loose about 35lbs brining me to 130.

For the past 2.5 weeks i have been going to the gym for 1 hour every weekday and taking weekends off. I've been eating healthier cut ALL soda out of my diet and letting the weekends be a day for me to indulge a bit (but not too much).

Now this is seemingly a goal that can be reached by anyone who works at it. But i feel as if i can't do it. I feel WORSE about myself when i get back from the gym. I get home and look in the mirror and wonder, why do i even bother i'm never gonna loose those 35lbs.

And the worst thing of all is that i have very little support from family and friends. The people i tell pretty much brush me off when i tell them everything i'm doing. i get the "Oh really? *eye roll*" So though all of this i'm basicly alone. The only person who is being positive is my B/F who is in Croatia (im in the US) for school, so i only see him a few times out of the year. Its hard not being able to talk with the only  one who supports you.

Which brings me here. I'm really looking for some friends through this site that could help me (and me help in return) in achieving my goals. I need more support, other wise this weight loss journey will be shortly over.

thank you to all of you!

Reason: Goals are more consistent with weight loss than health and support.

Sounds like you're doing everything you should be doing to live a healthier lifestyle.

I bet you'll start seeing really noticable results in the next 2-3 weeks.

If I may, I'd like to suggest adding a weight lifting routine to your workouts.  Once I incorporated lifting into my workouts, the weight fell off and I started gaining some nice muscle tone.  It takes about 2 weeks of lifting to begin seeing the physical changes.

If you want support, you've definitely come to the right place!

I know what you mean about the people in your everyday life not getting it! I think you have come to the right place to make friends with like minded people who can help and encourage you along your journay to lose those 35lbs! It sounds like you are off to a great start :)  You can do it!!

Welcome to CC... Here you can talk about diet and exercise until the cows come home.  My suggestion is to 'find the joy' in your healthy lifestyle.  Eat tasty healthy foods that you enjoy rather than grimly worthy stuff that you're only swallowing because you feel you should.  Get pleasure & satisfaction from your exercise routine and keep it moving along by trying new things.

And don't look for approval for what you're doing from other people because, frankly, most people are too wrapped up in themselves to care about anyone else.

Here's a GI Jane quote that might cheer you up....

"Living a healthy lifestyle is like pissing yourself in a dark suit.... You get a warm feeling but nobody notices"

LOL, GI Jane! Ain't that the damn truth?!

I think all of us can relate to your situation. Why else would we be seeking the empathy of strangers?

There is no way of doing this (especially starting out) without being borderline obsessive, very focussed, to the point where most of what you talk about is nutrition/dieting/fitness. There's only so many blank stares you can endure from your loved ones. At least you have us!

I've lost 40 lbs since January and I'm maintaining now. It seemed insurmountable at first. It could be very tedious at times along the way. But, way before you reach goal weight, you'll start reaping the rewards of your lifestyle change and they will manifest themselves in ways you can't predict now. No wonder fit people seem so happy! Keep going-you can do it!
