New Member confused about BMR vs. Set Calorie Goal

Quote  |  Reply
I just signed up a few days ago and my calorie goal has been set by this website at 1400 calories per day. However, I calculated my BMR after reading a lot of posts about how you should *never* eat below your BMR, and my BMR is 1600. I really want to do this right, and I don't want to go into "starvation mode," but what is the difference between what the site is telling me to do and what my BMR comes out to? What should I do?

Don't eat below your BMR, ever. The site is wrong to tell you to eat less than that amount.

Imccarthy is correct - eat the 1600.

If you want the deficit to be larger, exercise more, don't eat less.

I totally thought I understood but now I really don't. So if I am 33, f, 5'3", 147-9 lbs. looking to lose 15 lbs. and I jog 2-3 miles 3-4 times/week, then what should I be eating?

If I set the calculator at light activity, it says I can have 1382, if I set it at moderate it says 1590. It says my calorie expenditure is at 1890 a day at light activity and over 2000 on Moderate. Which is right and what do I eat? I thought we were supposed to have a 500-1000 defecit to lose weight.
