12. Biggest Obstacle to Getting Healthy? My cravings for #10 and #11, and the fact that I am also a smoker (actively trying to quit, I am currently down to 5-10 cigarettes a day)

16. Anything Else You'd Like To Share? I always start a diet with gusto. I always tell myself, "this is it, I'm staying with this one"; however, I have never been able to stick with one longer that 2 months. This is for several reasons. The biggest reason is that I am an emotional eater with a lot of stress, and a history of depression. The second biggest reason is because there is always junk food in my house. My husband (I will call him JJ) buys it and doesn't understand what it is like to be overweight. (He is 5'7" and weighs 140lbs, he doesn't exercise and he sits behind the wheel of a car for 50 hours a week due to his job). Both JJ and my son (I will call him DA) can eat anything they want without any weight concequences. I told JJ to stop buying junk, but he just doesn't understand what the big deal is and how hard it is for me to control my cravings. These are two of the many reasons why I now weigh 189lbs (I am only 5'1" so I now have a BMI of 35.7, not a prettynumber at all). Maybe this time I could get a good support system and really stay with it.

I had the same problem with my partner buying junk food that I couldnt keep away from.  I solved it by threatening to go get something he was addicted to, (Taco Bell) and eat it in front of him without letting him have any.  I told him to think about how crazy tht would make him and understand that thats how I feel when there are Chips/junk food in the house that he has bought.  He wouldnt be able to stay away from Taco bell, and he knew it, so I asked him to please respect my efforts, and if he wanted junk food, to keep it in his car, where I wouldnt be tempted.  He has done really well with helping me try to avoid having the temptation because now he realizes that It is much harder to do than you would think.

 

On another note, this website is a great motivator when you see the difference in calories in a day when you eat healthy, and when you break down and give in to temptation.  Remeber not to totally deprive yourself of the things you love, just dont let it ruin your efforts.  Reward yourself with a small portion of one of your vices once every two weeks, and it might make it easier.

12. Biggest Obstacle to Getting Healthy?  Leftover yuck from a 10 year domestic violence situation.  That and my boy has special needs and he has to eat butter, full fat dairy and tons of pasta just to maintain his weight.  It's hard to have that in the house staring at you...

How did you find Calorie Count?  A happy accident that has been bookmarked since last year.   I tried WW, but found "points" too obscure.  I think they underestimate what you are eating and over estimate on what you do for activity.  I lost 12.5 inches in 6 weeks, but the scale never budged.  I'm too detail oriented to just count points.  Not for me.

Anything Else You'd Like To Share?  I used to be senior staff at a high end commercial interior desgin firm.  I was a project designer and construction project manager.  I left that job in February of 2008 and went back to school to be a massage therapist.  One of the best decisions I ever made.

Looks like we have similar goals and obstacles....sweets are my major weakness/downfall....so I've been trying to eat more fruits rather than crap.  I'm also very good at loosing weight and then putting it back on.  So far this website has been awesome, I've only been doing it for 3-4 weeks now but I love it Smile  Anyways hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
