I've been reading through many of the Q's and A's and got a lot of good answers to many of my questions. Especially about Water and dieting. I try real hard to get 6-10 8 oz. glasses of water in a day. But every day it get's a little harder to make myself to drink it. Because, and that's the weird part, drinking water leaves me with a very dry mouth plus a funny taste.

HI pumukkle.
try either bottled water or a water purifier on your tap.
It does help. some times i squeeze a little lemon in the water.
welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard... and don't be afraid to ask questions around here!!! There is plenty of support from all of these lovely people. I do drink alot of water too but also I drink alot of the low sodium mineral waters with a little lemon or lime flavor to them... makes me feel like I am having a treat too that has no calories!!
add some fruit flavor to the water. try to squeeze some orange or grapefruit or try alittle pineapple juice to it. Drink your water heated with lemon- good way to cleanse.
If I am at work drinking water is easy but at home forget it now what I do is I have a tiny measuring cup 4 oz max and every hour I drink 2 fast like they are shots it works for me that way you only drink 1 cup every hour.
THANK YOU for the tips. I already drink only bottled water at the moment. But Lemon or other fruits added sounds real good to me. I already use Lemon on my salad as dressing.
you can try bottled water:) usually they taste better, you have option of fruit2o , i havent tried it but hey whatever works for you:)
Besides plain water, I like to drink club soda (seltzer) with a splash of orange juice. I find that the fizziness quenches my thirst and the juice adds just enough flavor.
I have a Pur waterfilter on my sink and I swear by it. It does so much for improving the taste of water. Our water out of the tap here is so bad you can smell the chlorine when you run it a lot of the time, but that filter takes all that stuff out. I drink water out of my tap now with a little lemon in it sometimes for some pizzaz, but I can't say enough good things about those water filters :)
I love the idea of using lemon instead of dressing on the salad-will have to try that tomorrow!
I drink the Fruit 2 O 's I only drink the grape ones though
I don't really like the other flavors but I love the grape.
I can not, I mean absolutely can not stand plain wwater!!!
I have a defective thirst mechanism (at least I think anyway) anyway, and I can force myself to drink plain water for a while but then I just quite drinking all together because I cant stand water. So the only other alternative for me is the Fruit 2 O's if I want to stay off the pepsi's

Hey there pumukle...
I have issues with water consumption as well. While trying to figure out a way around it, I kind of stumbled onto an answer by accident. If I drink water, it has to be very cold...hence ice cubes. But one day I ran out of ice cubes. All I had were some fresh frozen peaches and orange slices I keep around for making my low-cal muffins. I put them in the water...it kept the water cool and as they defrosted, left my water with a very pleasant peachy-orange flavor. It was quite delectable and the fruit is great to eat after you?re done drinking the water.
Hope this helps...I LOVE it!

Hey Pumukkle!
I have a very hard time getting all my water in for the day too. THe guy at the gym I go to said to try to add lemon to the water, but that he wouldnt do it too often, because it eats something off your teeth. I never heard that before, but its maybe something to look into.

Slenderella... I love the idea of the frozen fruit in the water... that would be awsome in mineral water too!!!

slenderella,
Thank you for the tip about adding frozen fruit to water! I've added lemon, lime and orange slices before, but hadn't thought of freezing them - that sounds great!
pumukkle,
I had trouble drinking 64 ounces of water when I first started - and I didn't like having to make so many trips to the bathroom either. I thought, Why am I going through all this unpleasantness, and buying bottled water, just to pee it down the toilet?
But then I read something that kind of made sense to me. Think of a really old sponge that has been dried out for ages, years. When you pour water over it, it takes a good while (longer than you'd think) to soften it up so that the water can soak in. When your body has been deprived of water for years and years, it might take a while to get used to it and for your body to be able to effectively use all that water. So hang in there and give it some time. After about a month, I noticed a natural change in my habits. I started drinking 64 ounces of water by mid-day. I drink more like 100 - 132 ounces of water per day now. Also, I noticed that when I don't get to drink my water, I really feel it. I feel slowed down, sometimes a little fuzzy-headed. And thirsty! Of course I should also mention that I am losing weight at about a half pound to a pound per week.
I'm a large person though (283 lbs now) so I expect as I lose weight, I may drink less water. I no longer miss soda and I never drank coffee. But I don't miss my iced tea anymore either. I buy water by the five gallon and I'm thinking about getting it delivered with one of those water coolers. I love it that much.

Hi pumukkle,
Nothing I was going to say wasn't said already! So I don't have much to say except hello and welcome! I've only been here for about 3 weeks now (if that) and have seen more and more great people join the group. I guess you can tell already!
Before I got an R/O water filtration system, I couldn't stomach water either unless I had it loaded with ice cubes! As long as it's filtered, I can drink it anyway...I think I had a huge problem with odors in my water. I can't drink it if it smells. Besides, Delaware has a reputation for being a high cancer rate area... I will not drink water unless it's filtered for the fear of it making me sick!
One thing I learned years ago that seemed to help me... ice water is negative calories - your body burns calories as it tries to bring the ice water to body temperature.. there is a great diet secret! I never used to be without my ice water. (i need to get back into that habit again!) Welcome again!
