Hi everyone

Just joined CC today to try and give myself some extra motivation; hopefully I'll get good advice and meet friends, too.

I put on a lot of weight largely because I was depressed, having been unemployed for a long time.  I was up as high as 18 stone, but have since managed to get down to between 14 and 14 1/2.  I'd love to get down to between 10 and 10 1/2 stone, because I know I'd have a 6-pack then! lol

Anyway, whenever I get down to around 14 stone, I seem to struggle to stick to my diet.  That's 2 weekends in a row now where I've binged.  I'm able to put away vast quantities of food (in the region of 7000-8000 calories) in one sitting, so it's a case of one step forward, one step back.

Does anyone have any similar experiences?  If so, how did you stop this diet sabotage?  Admittedly, I'd been drinking on the last 2 occasions, and I've been told to avoid alcohol when dieting as it can trigger binging when you're dieting.  So no more alcohol.  But I do have a history of binge-eating disorder and it's never went away.

By the way, I'm male, 30, and 6 ft 2.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

welcome, My husband have been following  cc for months now. He has lost 20lbs & I have lost 12 1/2lbs.

It's a bit trying at first, but when you get the hang of tagging everything, it becomes much simplier.

Good Luck

Hi Pauline,

Well done.

But doesn't it annoy you how men always lose faster than women?  lol

Hello,

I've lost about 30 pounds and need to shed another 20- right now I'm working on not gaining that flab back.  My hubby and I are planning on visiting your country next year- maybe Eyemouth and Edinburgh- hope to figure somewhere to stay in Eyemouth.  We love coastal towns.  Take care and welcome from a Western United States person.

I love the USA! I'm an avid listener of Michael Savage.  Sounds like your country's getting ripped apart by the Democrats right now.

You asked how to stop 'diet sabotage' and my first suggestion would be to get the numbers right.  Use the CC calculator to work out how much you need to maintain your weight and how much you need in order to lose weight.  With your stats and assuming you are reasonably active you'll probably find you need quite a generous allowance in order to lose weight.  2000-2300 I would estimate.   Space your food out evenly, make good choices..... this will make it a more pleasant experience.

What tends to trigger binge-eating is a combination of deprivation and starvation.  So as part of your weight-loss strategy make sure you're not saying 'never' to all your favourites... but try to keep them in the mix in controlled quantities.   Rather than avoiding alcohol completely, for example, enjoy a glass or two one day a week.   And by keeping to a more generous calorie allowance you can knock 'starvation' head at the same time.

Finally.... enjoy your healthy lifestyle on its own merits, not simply as a means to an end.  Then you're making a positive choice.

Those are my tips.....

  • Get the numbers right so that you're eating the right amount.
  • Be flexible with your food choices.
  • Feel that you're making changes because you want to... not because you have to.
