Reason: Moved to the Lounge forum since it's more appropriate (ongoing support thread). Thank you!
Take Care Theresa
That would be great.
I'm starting today calorie counting seriously. I'm going to do about 30 min exercise before work. Hate to get onthat aweful scale this am but have to. Let's do this Theresa. I'm from Minnesota. Love gardening so I'm depressed right now stuck in the house. It snow first 6" this weekend. I'm married 27 years, 4 grown kids. 4 grand kids so far. Only 2 girls married. 2 boys still at home ages 23 and 17. Eat out of boredom. What's your story?
Sue

Thanks for writing. What does everyone eat for breakfast?
I'm back on the forum after GAINING weight through the year. I'm 49 and need to lose 35 lbs. I also love gardening and live in Michigan, UGH it's cold. I did the log and it was helpful but didn't stick with it. I may not be real chatty but I'd love to have someone to check in with. I think it's nice to know someone else is out there trying to do the same thing. Just think how much easier bending over to weed will be come spring! My weight is starting to affect the things I love to do. That's unacceptable. Will this be our check in thread?
Breakfast starting tommorrow: cottage cheese, 1/2 english muffin, TB of jam.
Here's to Healthy Holidays!
Karen
Hi, Sue...
I'm new to the group, but I'm in the same age group "47-ish" LOL!! I'm doing fairly good on my calorie-counting and daily exercise, but it will sure be good to have some "company" to keep me accountable!
I've tried all the multi-level things out there (and even sold them LOL) but I've found healthy eating and exercise are key components. I was going to a Dr. here in Texas initially for weight loss help and he found a Thyroid cyst so I've been having to go through a gamut of tests that finally came back that I'm cancer-free... and have an auto-immune disease that attacks the Thyroid. So, needless to say, I've had a bit of an uphill battle. Thyroid problems leave you with very little energy, so he gave me B12 injections mixed with some amino acids to support my liver.... it got pretty expensive until I finally found a place online and just do it myself. So pretty much, my Christmas present right now is one of the greatest ones I could have... knowing I'm cancer-free.
Best of wishes and it's going to be great to get to know you better!!!
Looks like six of us here so far! All in the same boat. At least with us gardeners we'll have flowers and veggies on board our ship. (Sorry, just my little attempt at humor) I need to be accountable to somebody soooo......I'm going to let you guys know that I stayed the course each morning from the previous day. I'll be honest if I mess up too. I want to say one positive thing I've done or accomplished to hopefully encourage toward our goal. I do better with a bit of a template as you can probably tell.
1.) I food logged and excercise logged and checked in here.
2.) I threw out food that would just get me in trouble later today.
Question for the day!
How many calories a day are you all doing? And do you use the food tracker on this site?
1550 and yes
Good Luck everybody, Karen
I had to tag this thread or I would have never found it again LOL!
How do you tag a thread... I was thinking the same thing LOL!!!!
Ro
To tag it ---- at the very top of the thread page on the right hand side it says TAG IT just hit that button then when you got to your account page at the top line hit Tagged Items or something like that, and the forum will be there. I get to distracted if I go into all the threads. So I'm just gonna stay here with us 40's -50's group.
Karen
Good morning everyone. I blew it last night. I guess I'll just get back in saddle and be extra good today. I'll start by dragging myself to the gym on my lunch hour and putting in at least 30 minutes. I'm trying to get consistent. On another thread I committed to excercising 4 x per week, 30 min minimum.
I've gotten a couple of friend notices from you guys. What does that feature do for you? I thought by I would automatically have you on my friends list since you'd added me, but that wasn't the case. We're all learning the tricks of the trade here.
Hi All, so happy we have such a great group, I am adding all of you as friends and please do the same with me. To do that hasta, click on anybodys name and off to the right on the top, it will say add a buddy, and when you click on it, it will say remove the buddy. I condsider myself adept at computers, but it took me days to figure that out. Again, welcome to all!!
Now to get to the meat and potatoes, yes pun intended
my problems are: getting my exercise in. 1st, I do about 100 sit ups on an exercise ball about 3-4 times a week. But that cardio, geez, I can't force my self to go. I have a gym membership and have gone as far as get dressed to go, leave, but go shopping instead cuz I just can't stand the place. My husband and I have had mememberships for almost 4 years. He lost 50 lbs, I gave up after 1 year because I wasn't seeing any results. I realize now that I really have to put the effort in to see any progress, but I always say tomorrow and it never happens. I welcome all suggestions.
Thanks to all
Theresa
Hi everyone, I think you are right kjt, I finally found the group for me.
kjt if i want to loose weight because of my size I have to stay around 1200 cal a day ughhhhh... I am very small boned and short. I only want to loose a little bit thank goodness (a total of 15lbs) but at almost 50 it is harder and harder to maintain let alone loose. It is very difficult to eat that little amount too. What is the food tracker?
tmcphee I agree with you about getting in the exercise, I have to do it in the morning or I won't do it... I will tell you though I found that shopping can burn a lot of calories too which is really good to know. I am very fortunate, I have a treadmill and bow-flex at home, I would never go to the gym. I try to do at the very least 30 minutes a day. I found that if I have very little time I will hop on the treadmill for 20 minutes it may only be a little while but at least I am doing something.
Thank you to all of you who put me in as a friend I did the same for you, Betty
See ladies -- who knew it was so easy to meet up with others in pretty much the exact same boat? I don't really have much to add to the convo, ya'll seem to have everything under control.
Revins -- when you add friends it gives you the ability to read that member's journal, and that member can read your journals. You can set separate security (privacy) levels for different friends or different journals (I have five different levels (don't ask, I'm a little crazy)) -- most of my journals are open to the public, however I do occasionally post stuff that is open only to friends. People post all kinds of things to their journals.
Many of us use the journalling feature to talk back and forth with friends but also to keep track of things like workouts, menus, rants, nutrition grades/values, websites we've found, and so on. Most people don't mind someone who is not a "friend" making comments, but some do -- you just have to get a feel for these things.
And for those of you who have not yet done a profile -- I really do recommend it -- it's easy and it gives a little more insight into your goals and interests.
I wish you all luck -- I'm working on another 20+lbs and am currently at a standstill...
On the go andin the know.
