Reason: Moved to the Lounge forum since it's more appropriate (ongoing support thread). Thank you!
My goodness go away for a few days and look what happens. Wow!! Awesome. Welcome everyone! Ro and Theresa-I did not have a good weigh in either. We traveled to the city and as always I retained alot lof water from the trip. I was not able to weigh in on Saturday so I weighed in Sunday-YUP 2 pounds gained..should have waited..but oh well....but on a positive note I bought a new digital scale with .1 pound increments.
We're suppose to get a storm tomorrow-snow and blowing snow. Looking forward to a snow day! Maybe I'll get to stay home.
Today is my middle child's 16th birthday. I can't believe how fast they are growing. My grandson is 6 weeks old and is getting control of his head. HE IS SOOO CUTE! My daughter (his mom) is back to work and as with new mothers she is struggling with the weight gain and exhaustation.
Last night I was sorting through some old pictures. Found 1 from 1997 at my all time high weight. If I can figure out how to post it to my gallery along with a current pic of me.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Meno Pause aint for sissys...LOL
Did I mention that my fiancee is a gourmet cook? He is a retired firefighter and a "foodie" ; he is able to whip up an entree that is restaurant quality or better. I kid you not. He is also blessed with a metabolism that I would gladly have transplanted in to my body!!! Thank God, he doesn't bake!!
I made it through the weekend with him successfully!!! First, he is supportive of my diet and tried hard to make a healthy "Baked Ziti and Mushrooms"*yikes, a diet killer*....got me diet soda for my mixed drink- Diet Coke, rum and lime this time. I indulge in a cocktail or two on the weekends when I'm with him...yep, he's also got 13 years bartending experience and can make a Mojito with fresh mint and simple syrup like you wouldn't believe.
I used portion control and calorie banking as my strategy...and it worked. I was up to 1500 calories Sat. nite when we had dinner at home, drinks and watched the NE Patriots play. 200 over my 1300 diet...but Sunday AM we went on a long walk- one hour- and I ate small breakfasts and lunches. I worked out with weights when I got home too. Came out with 1000 calories for Sunday (very low, I know, but it was only to make up for Saturday.)
The point is its up to me to adapt to those around me whose everyday life does not necessarily include dieting.
I will weigh in on Fridays- to continue to keep me on track for the weekends! I generally do great Mon-Fri because I am a creature of habit and do my meal prep in advance.
Today some snow shoveling is needed- theres about four inches of wet heavy snow out there right now!

Hi all and here's to a better week, I'm sure!
Carla, I'm so jealous. I love animals of all kinds and can't have any because of where I live.
Della, we are going to do this week, I have a good feeling and my husband, who cooks way better than I do is out of town for the week. So that means simplicity for me. who likes cooking for one. I plan to do the gym a little every day to work up my intensity. We'll see how that goes, good intentions you know. LOL
I didn't quite drink enough water yesteday, boo hoo, but I'm really aware of it today and want to do better.
I was able to follow Bettys suggeston and leave something on my plate for dinner last night. We had braised beef brisket with roasted potatoes and carrots. I only had 2 ounces of meat and 1 small potato instead of 2. I think that she had a great idea to work on portion control.
I love all the recipes showing up, although I haven't had a chance to check out all recipes.com website yet. Probably some time this week.
Any one that is new to this thread, you can ask questions if you don't know how to do something. I know if did some manuevering when I first started. So ask away.
Take care
Theresa
OMGosh! I thought I had been keeping up with you guys even though I haven't been posting for about a week. I couldn't believe how many new contributors we've added. WELCOME!
I'll briefly introduce myself, since we have so many recent additions. I'm 43, 5'2, 140lb. My short term goal is 135, and longer term 120. I've been on this site since Nov. My biggest weakness is wine. I'm trying hard to getting more consistent with my work outs. Last week, my first week to really tackle the consistency problem, I went Mon-Friday and gained .6 (or.4) lbs. I skipped Saturday b/c I was a little disappointed and I thought I deserved a break. Sunday I was back at it with a great 1 hr. step class.
When the moment comes that I have to get up from my seat and head to the work out, I like to tell myself "no one ever says they wish they hadn't gone to the gym today".
Have a great week!
Original Post by webberb:<snip>I have a challenge for all of you. ...you MUST leave something on your plate (no matter how small even desserts if you have them). This counts for home and if you go out. <snip>
Ummmmmmmmm.... does the design on the plate count??? ![]()
I left some crumbs and broth-does that count??
I'll try to do better with supper...lol ![]()
Okay guys I didn't do this challenge to drive you crazy now. But GREAT JOB THERESA, Oh and Ro no the pattern doesn't count hahaha...Yes crumbs and broth do. Oh and you can't take more food than normal so you can leave some hmmmmmm... But in any case if you do it for only ONE meal that is good if you can do it for every meal that is better. The idea is to slowly eat a little less, however, if you are doing good with portion control (something I don't do good with) then this is not something you need.
Man I never thought I would be counting how many crackers I have with my soup sometimes getting older sucks. But we can do this one step at a time with each-others help. What a great group we have here. Have a good night everyone. Betty
Hey Betty, I love your challenge-tonight with supper I left some chicken and potato..
Night Everyone-chat with you tomorrow.

Good morning everyone, had horrible hot flashes last night up before 5:00 will be a long day today.
Left 1/8 of my steak on my plate last night took a small piece to begin with, ate all my salad and carrots no starch, but did have a glass of wine.
Hope you all have a great day. Betty
Good Morning Everyone-it is snowing and blowing here this AM-the school is closed but our office is open. So here I sit in all alone (only 1 other co-worker who did not make it in today).
Feeling rather down and blah today. Kind of in the mood of why am I doing this? I'm almost 47 years old and rather comfortable with life. Maybe too comfortable. I have very little motivation today...
Blah
Della, with a duck for a picture, you must be somewhat silly. Let that side of you shine today. It's snowy and dreary here today too. Maybe we should pull out some summer pictures and hang them on the refrigerator to remind us of what's around the corner! I have a cruise in October and darn it, I'm going to look better than I do today - even if it kills me!
I got too comfortable with my life last year and it nearly cost me my marriage. I will never do that again. After 20 years of marriage, I learned that the grass is not greener on the other side and to never take your husband for granted. I watched my sister go thru an emotional divorce last year as well. I don't ever want to be in her shoes.
That's one of the reasons I really want to make this change in my life. I need to feel better about myself. I want my family life to continue on the upswing. I'm enjoying planning and cooking meals with my daughter. Sitting at the table with my husband (on the weekends) and the kids everyday. Life is good! Carla
Betty, Nana, Ro and all..... what a group we are, it's so much fun reading all these posts. Well, I didn't leave anything on plate last night, but it was because it was a small portion of left over chicken stew. I have to give you all this recipe, it was fantastic, healthy and has no carbohydrates in it and its from Giada Delaurentis from the Food Network... Can you tell I'm a Daigo? LOL I will put it up either today or tomorrow as I'm at work and don't have it.
Made it to the gym, but couldn't do any cardio because I have some swelling in my right foot from God know what. So I did 45 minutes of weight training and will get the cardio done tonite hopefully.
Hasta, Welcome back, I did miss you.
Yap at you all later after the gym...
Theresa
Hi all, I just got back from the dentist and am trying to eat lunch, the whole side of my face and tongue is numb this is a good way to eat less lol...
Della, hope you are feeling a little better. Would love the stew recipe Theresa I LOVE stews and soups especially this time of year.
Okay so some of you know my weakness is my coffee, not that I drink tons, two cups in the morning and I like having it is the afternoon as well usually 1-2 cups (I hate throwing out the rest). But because I am lactose intolerant I use coffee mate flavored creamer and it is somewhat high in calories, plus I like my coffee on the light side...
well I had found this instant coffee in my pantry yesterday (don't know how long it was there) so I went to the store today and found the store brand only 50 calories for swiss Mocha mmmmmmm... one cup of my normal coffee is 115 calories thank god I don't use sugar, I am so ecstatic, this means I can have my coffee in the afternoon again...Also I would be more likely to only have one cup this way since you make it by the cup not pot, ..... have a great day everyone. Betty
Theresa and Betty, Thanks for the comments-and I apologize for my Blahs today. I normally love snowy weather. But today is/was just blah. I'm sure it will be better berfore the day is out! In fact I know it will be-it already is. Thanks to friends like everyone here.
Carla, Thanks! You made me laugh! I try not to let things get me down-I try to stay positive because I know this is a life change-not a short term assignment.
And I left a cabbage leaf on my plate from lunch..![]()
Betty... I left a swallow of my shake this morning and part of my salad and dessert at Jason's Deli at lunch today!!!! And the pattern on the plate, too!!! Do I get a sticker???? LOL!!
Took daughter to the dentist today for a root canal. I was so squeamish, I couldn't stay in there with her (I've had an emergency one done before, and that memory just won't go away... wasn't horrible, but OY!!!!). Anyway, I thought of Betty because she tried talking and sounded like "The Rock" Johnson in the movie "GamePlan" when he ate Cinnamon and his tongue swelled... he sounded like Sylvester the Cat LOL!!!!! So did my daughter. We were eating lunch and she had a baked potato and had no idea a piece of it was stuck to the side of her face because she was numb. I wiped her face off, and after a few more bites and mouth slanted like a paralysis patient she says "Momma.. do I have a little thumpin thumpin on my fathe???" ROFLOL!!!!
I feel for you, Betty LOL!!! I'm tho thorry you had to go through that thuff!!
Wow! This group looks great! I am soon to be 49 and need to lose 20 or so pounds. For now I set a goal of about 18 lbs between now and mid-May. My daughter got me hooked on this site. I paid to use the Weight Watchers site before and this site is better I think. Anyway glad to see lots of chit-chat...from folks my age! Good luck everyone!
Lynne
Hi Ro, here is your smiley sticker
........ hope you like it. Carla as I told Ro patterns don't count, lol, and they call it a "challenge" for a reason, it's not meant to be easy so today is a new day if not there is always tomorrow. Welcome Lynne, you will like it here.
So glad that my challenge is helping a bit if anything it makes us more aware, or all of you mad at me for posting it to begin with lol "hope not". Last night we came home late my Hubby's father broke his hip so we went to visit him after surgery (doing great). on the way home we stopped at this new kinda take out restaurant, she has a regular restaurant as well with wonderful food. Sooooo we got the "to go" gourmet food, salad, stuffed chicken (with ham and spinage), mashed sweet potatoes and broccoli, I only took half of the meal (there was a lot) and still left a little of all but the broccoli and salad. I am not sure of the calories that it was but did take a small portion size so I think I did okay. Have a great day everyone... Betty
