Good Morning Everyone.  The sun is shining and we have LOTS and LOTS of snow today.  Any volunteers to help us dig out?? LOL!

I didn't leave anything on my plate last night-Embarassed I forgot about the challenge..
But today is another day. Innocent

And on a positive note-Our aerobics classes resume on Monday! Yeah!  I can't wait.

Welcome Lynne!

Brrrrrrrr!!!!!!  It is one cold and windy day here!!  I do believe I saw Auntie Emm blow by a little bit ago LOL!  They always say that the only thing between the Texas Panhandle and the North Pole is a barbed wire fence with 2 lines down... I'm beginning to believe them!  No snow.. just lots of wind and dirt in the air (and believe me, you DON'T WANT dirt from this area anywhere near your lungs, yard, house, pets, cars... or you'll smell like a feedlot for days!!  We have a screened-in gazebo attached to the back of our house, and I could probably plant a garden on the floor of it this spring!!  I've never seen so much dust!!  It's like the Dust Bowl of years back!  Blech!

Watched The Biggest Loser last night and was sooooooooo inspired by the yellow and pink teams!  They really did a great job!  I just so worry for The Pink mom, that her heart won't be able to take it!  I'm like, Man!!  She's sweating like a racehorse and can't hardly walk... please don't let anything happen to her.  Now the Grey Team football jocks... they are racehorse material... they're tough!  I am thoroughly enjoying watching it this season.  Never got into it before.

Betty... Thankth for the thicker... it wath thwell!!!  (How's the mouth, by the way?)

ROFL

Ro your a hoot.

BTW - I lived in Oklahoma for 40 plus years.  I know exactly what your talking about when you mention dust and wind.

I haven't seen the Biggest Loser in a looonnng time-I don't watch alot of tv.  Maybe once a week...

Oh, and I love your display picture.  Soo cute!!

nanamoss... Boomer Sooner!!!  LOL!!!  Yeah... my display picture was too cute to pass up... besides, I don't have to potty train an avatar!

Hey group... I found out something the other day, and so far it's working for me.  Of course I'm still taking my Lipotropics injection, but this really helped me figure out the right amount of calories that I'm supposed to take in:

You know, theoretically you CAN lose around a pound a week if you cut your calories because your body is burning calories just by surviving everyday (lungs, heart, other organs).

I found a great link from another forum I'm on and the girl on there told us to go to this link and put in our current weight, etc., and as the exercise level... put "sedentary" (because you factor in the exercise later).  Then you take the TDEE calories they give you, and that's the amount of calories it takes to MAINTAIN the weight you're at.  But most of us want to lose weight, right?  Well, if you cut that calorie count by 500 (because a pound=3500 calories, and within 7 days that would be 500/day for a pound loss per week), you should lose a pound a week.  Then on top of that, add exercise to it and just use the "calories burned" that the machine gives you, and if you burn 250 per day you should lose 1/2 pound more, but if you burn 500 per day you should lose another1 pound per week.  So pretty much, if you cut 500 calories from the TDEE and exercise daily you can lose a possible 1or more pounds per week!  Here's the link where you go to figure calories out (and it's for women over 40!!  Wooo Hooo!!!!):

http://www.weight-loss-for-women-over-40.com/ bmr-calorie-needs-calculator.htm

But isn't this the same information the burn meter gives? I put in sedentary to set it up and then add the exercise.  So if I have a gap of 500-1000 between calories eaten and calories burned, I lose (usually, unless of course I don't ;)

This site is great. If I joined another site, I probably would have to quit my job, I spend so much time reading, posting, meeting and greeting. Too bad I burn so few calories online.

Hi Everyone, wow busy place today.  Ro my mouth is doing great thanks for asking.  Also thanks for the site info, I do agree with Phox50 I don't know if I have any time for another site but will check it out.

Thats okay Della about dinner I didn't leave anything on my plate at lunch either hmmm but there is always dinner.

I spent the afternoon going back and forth to the furniture store about 3 miles away, been looking for end tables for over a year, never went to the place that was close thought they would be too expensive "small town prices"...  But they had exactly what I wanted and lower than the other stores.  Go figure... I couldn't decide on the stain color got two tables home and thought the other color and one size bigger would look better, went back got another size and the other color, in the end had to order the other color in the size I wanted and now it will take 6-8 weeks oh well.  There is a message to this story I worked off a lot of calories and moved three tables up and down 13 stairs twice.

Well ladies have a wonderful night.  Betty

I agree, I may have to quit my job to keep up.  Great to see all the dialoge.  You all crack me up.  Thanks for the welcome back mcphee.  After reading the challenge, I've saved 1/2 of my lunch or dinner to have for the next day's lunch or dinner.  Too bad there isn't anything to serve my husband and kids!

Hi, I am also new and looking for that extra support.  I'm 54, and need to lose 20-25.  Last yr had a massive heart attack, and stopped smoking.  Gained bunch of weight that won't go away.  I am eating less and less each day, exercising and nothing seems to work.  I hope the advise of you and others will help.

Welcome! I have been here a week or so and you have picked a fabulous bunch of women!

I am 47 next month- no MI but my brother had a quadruple bypass at age 44- and I have 20-25 to lose. I am also convinced my body forgot how. I find the food log and measuring/weighing food keeps me honest. I didnt develop my bad habits overnite.

I hope you feel as welcome here as I do!

Liz

Welcome to the group skinnyoldme.  Well today is another day up early around 5:00, I slept good though so should be a productive day.  Plan to do a full workout this morning, then I will be taking Mom out for our weekly shopping trip, we always have fun, usually go to Jo-Ann's (local craft store) and then out to lunch.  Feels like a soup day it is cold outside 9 degrees, yikes that is REALLY cold. It is hard to dress for days like this because it's so cold I want to wear a sweater because I am usually cold, but with hot flashes even at 9 degrees I can be hot at any given time ughhhhhh...

Hasta good for you with the food I think you get two smile stickers WinkSmile.  I left two bites of pork chops on my plate last night.  Have a good day everyone, Betty

GUESS WHAT??!!!!!!!!  I peeked at the scale this morning!  I know... my bad... weigh-in's not until Saturday but I have been sooooooo diligent about watching my calories, doing my B12/Lipo, exercising every morning, drinking my water and getting to bed before 10:00pm.............. and it's paying off!!!!!!!!!   I'm so excited!!!!!  I'm DOWN ANOTHER 1.4 POUNDS!!!!!  And I still have Today and Tomorrow to go!!!

If I could turn a cartwheel, I would!!!!!!!  After last week, this soooooooooo ROCKS!!  I'm off to walk on my wonderful (and I am sooo meaning that right now) Treadmill aka Zebra Walker aka The Marty Mobile!!  The chill factor is 1 below zero outside.... ain't no way I'm setting even one toe out the door LOL!!!     Rochelle

Phox....... I'm not sure... probably so.  I don't use the burn meter or the calorie counter (I just write all my stuff down so I have it).  I corrected the link above because I didn't have the whole thing in there.  It should have been:

http://www.weight-loss-for-women-over-40.com/ bmr-calorie-needs-calculator.htm

And yes, you're right... this is such a cool place!    Rochelle

Betty.....  Have you found anything for the Hot Flash stuff?  I was on the Vivelle Dot, and actually did fine.  But I wanted to go "natural" so I did some cream that had Progesterone + Estriol (or whatever the one is that pregnant women make) and I would get a MASSIVE headache even using 1/2 a pump once a week.  Just wondering if you or anyone else has any answers.  I had an emergency hyst in 1999 at the age of 29 (thus, the reason for the extra cargo around the hips and stuff... plus the Thyroid acting up).  Weird thing... a holistic Pharmacist (yes, there IS such a thing... faint!!) said that I most likely had too much Estrogen to begin with.  He said that the huge cysts I formed on my ovaries was the #1 sign of excess estrogen (yet no-one ever checked it).  Once my ovaries were taken out, they put me on MORE estrogen, so since I'm a cyst-maker that's most likely the reason I had the huge one come up on my Thyroid (since my body couldn't make it on my ovaries).  Anyway, he's the one that suggested the "natural stuff" that gave me the headache.  The product totally stunk (use-wise... otherwise very delightfully scented) but his argument was worth thinking about...... So here I sit... thinking.............  any thoughts???

Hi Ro, no I haven't but I haven't looked really, can't take meds real good they always bother me, I usually try to go the natural way.  But the hot flashes where not so bad (even though I have had them for about 3 years now) until recently last couple months they have gotten worse so I may have to check into something.  Ro you should try the eat and burn meter on this site you would like it I am sure.  You can also put in a food (brand name) and a restaurant (major chains) and get the calories for meals, it is really pretty good, not perfect but good.  Betty

Could someone explain the challenge of leaving something on the plate? Is it to overcome childhood conditioning of the clean-your-plate club and remembering the starving Armenians? My mother (she’s over 80) was guilt-tripped about cleaning her plate for the starving Armenians and she swore not to do it to her kids. But, if it works to slow down the munching, go for it.
Hi Phox50, The challenge is exactly what you are saying. We were conditioned to eat everything on our plate even if we were full, Both my parents were in the depression and you didn't waste anything.  So even though I eat healthy I have always tended to eat quite a lot "portion wise".  Americans in general do eat more than they need.  There were times I could eat as much as my husband who is twice my size.  So it is a conditioning if you will that helps you to eat less and eventually a healthy portion size.  It does work.  Hope that explains it. Betty

thanks for the comments and the explain of the food challenge.  I understand the challenge is probably over soon, but re: portions, I think I will give it a try.

I think that portion size might be part of my problems.  Although lately I have actually been measuring and trying hard to cut back, but I do eat everythin on my plate!!

thank you, hoping for better results.  I have been watching calories, exercising more and not losing.  so we shall see, i'm gonna try the portion challenge (even though everone else is probably done). i'll try anything!!
skinnyoldme it's never too late to leave a portion on your plate. As far as i'm concerned we can continue that forever and cheer each other on when we accomplish it. My motto -- celebrate the smallest accomplishemts.

elisabeth2008 - when is your birthday if you don't mind disclosing. We can have a thread bday celebration for you. I don't know how to do one, but with this enthusiastic group, I'm sure we'll figure out a way to do it. I'm on a guffy computer so sorry for any misspelled words. I can't see the tool bar.

Webberb - Thanks for the 2 smileys. It made me happy.
