Good Morning Everyone, tried the recipe and it was good, not great, but good.  I do not like to pan cook meat but thought I would try.  Had pretty big chicken breast, I think it would be better with strips so they cook faster, I ended up cutting them.  But it was very tasty.  Have a good day everyone.  Betty

Good Morning Betty,

Wonder where everyone has gone?  And I wonder why we're moved to the lounge instead of Motivation since this is a support thread??  Maybe I'm just wondering too much. .

My day is going pretty good.  I've laid back a little on aerobics after pulling the muscle in my back.  I'm still working out at home-just not as intense.

Della

Good Morning!

I am new to this site. I am 48, married 27 years, 2 children (but no grandchildren yet - but waiting).  I have about 10 lbs I want to lose.  I exercise 4X a week - both cardio and weights.  Trying to do this calorie thing and lose those pounds!

Evening all,

Hope everyone has had a good day.  We are expecting a winter storm here tomorrow and Saturday, but today was lovely.  A winter storm in Kentucky can be anywhere from 2 to 6 inches.  The weather forcasters say this one can give us 4 to 16 inches depending on which part of the state we are in.  They predict that this will be the most snow we have had in 3 years.  After reading some of the posts of the ones of you who live further north, I am in awe of your weather.  We are all panic stricken here and that is laughable compared to your winters.  Della, I thought of your kids out in the snowstorm.  If something like that happened here, we would all hibernate like a bunch of bears.  I know I would!

Hello and welcome blienne.  Good luck in your quest to loose those 10 pounds.  I wish I had been more mindful of my weight when I was only 10 lbs overweight, but I didn't.  Oh well...I'm mindful now.

I did 45 minutes tonight of a pilates-balance ball combo.  It still amazes me how powerful a balance ball workout can be.  It looks so simple, but it strains every muscle in my body.  When I finish, I know I've done something.  Has anyone else tried it?    Cheryl

Cheryl: I was just researching balance balls on the net.  I was looking into purchasing from Sears-along with some new weights and work out dvd.  Good to hear that you find it a work out.  And your storm is heading our way.  We're predicted to get hit Saturday, Sunday and possibly Monday.  Snow and blowing snow.  We're looking at another foot by the time it ends.  (we have 5 feet in the back yard now). But we love it!

Blienne: Welcome!  I too have to ditto Cheryl's response. . I wish I had paid attention to my weight ALOT sooner.  But the important thing is we recognize it's an area we need to work on.  AND WE'RE DOING IT!!

My weight is slowing going down again.  I'm down to 204 so that is a 2 pound loss or is it?  Does it count as a loss when your at 199 jump up to 206 then back down to 204. . does that count?

Anyway, have a great day!

Hello everyone, although it seems lots of people are gone, hopefully not permanently.

Cheryl I am too UNCOORDINATED to use the balls, but have heard they are great.

Welcome blienne you will love this group.

Della, YES it does count, we have to count everything we can in this journey.

Me I am back up as well, I do not know if is TTOM or what.  Since I don't really know.  However, I have gained 3 pounds since last week.  I have been good about water, food and exercise.  I am not logging food (stopped it for this week)but have been paying attention to what I eat (I don't vary my menu too much), heck I ate out twice and had salad with chicken both times......OH I have lost inches, but in my boobs only..... don't need to do that there hahaha...  I also added exercise to my routine.  I know someone will tell me it is muscle but no, my jeans are tight again.  ughhhhh this is so hard and I am so close.

So new goals for the next week........

  • I will exercise at least twice on the treadmill in the afternoon as well (or walk if it is nice out. (I do 3/4 times in the morning each week).
  • I will add 4 more choices to the lower body exercises (I know I was suppose to do this last week, but didn't, I have them now)
  • will continue with at least 6 exercises for the upper/lower body each twice a week to equal 4 days on the bowflex
  • Make sure I drink my water intake EVERY day and have one glass before meals

Okay that is good for now, so I am off to go on the treadmill.  God I hate exercising in the afternoon ughhhhhhhh.... I hope you all have a good weekend and don't get too much snow, I think we are just getting rain.  Betty

What IS IT with me and my scale?! Our love towards each other is very fickle LOL! BUT... like I posted before, I'm not going by what it says strictly alone. I have to go by the way I feel emotionally and physcially as well. I was not surprised that I gained 1.4 pounds this week. It was worse than the Texas Tornado Roller Coaster that we have at a local amusement park here. It was a very emotional week here.

It started off with my brother-in-law and his family up and moving, but conveniently leaving their dog behind. Very nonchalant about the whole thing, figuring if they left the gates open she'd find a new home. So I ended up going out and "adopting" her and then putting her down because she can easily turn on people and with all the other dog attacks we've had around here... I was NOT going to put people or other animals in danger at any point in time. It was very sad for me, because my hubby and I have always been the ones to take care of her when they would go off for a week. They are Ministers... so it was very disappointing the way they (1) left their pet and (2) left the condition of their house. I've come to expect more of them, since God's Word says "To whom more is given, more is expected". They've been given a lot position-wise at their church... and to do some of the things they've done is really sad. But... have to forgive, so I'm working on it!!

In the meantime... here's to you, Lady... You were a good FRIEND.

Secondly was the passing of a local Realtor. We met him at the Trinity Fellowship Healing Room in March of 2005. I would take my son there every Monday night for prayer during the months prior to his brain surgery on March 30, 2005. One of those nights, we met Mike. He had just found out he had cancer. His wife and daughter were having a very hard time and I knew how they felt. Mike was doing really well, he said... he was kinda in shock. I saw him at an open house for the real estate company he worked for, several months after that Monday night introduction and he looked really good. We were all praying and pulling for him, but it just wasn't meant to be I guess. We received our miracle during this lifetime here on earth when our son underwent his "Miracle Brain Surgery" in Phoenix, AZ. Mike received his in Heaven. His smile and his bravery will be missed. I am honored to have met him.

Here's to you, Mike... I'm honored to have called you FRIEND.

Ro: Wow I don't know what to say.  Except my prayers are with you during this difficult and sad time.  I know alot of people wont understand how hard it can be to put an animal down.  But it pains my heart just as deeply as losing a human.  It is a life God put on the earth and just as valuable.   God Bless and take care.

Betty: Thanks-I love the way you think!!

Cheryl: How are you today?  Did you get the snow?  Are you dug out yet?  We're going to get 30 centimeters of snow by tomorrow night.  Snow all day today and tomorrow.  So lots of shoveling for us.

BTW I am down this week: 2.7 pounds.  From 206.4 to 203.7 not near 199.8 (where I was two weeks ago) but going down.

Don't forget to change your clocks.

Della

It has been a while since I posted here, but I’m still around. I’ve been maintaining for about 6 weeks and am at my goal weight. I decided to lose another 5 lbs. to keep my weight steady. I’m moving up and down about 6 lbs. so I figure if I make my goal 5 lbs. lower it will stop the gaining at a weight I’m happy with. Does that make sense? I stopped logging everything I ate, but after gaining 6 lbs. I went back to logging. I then lost most of that weight.Maintaining is a real struggle, but I hope all of you will join me here soon so we can support each other as we try to make this change permanent.

OK... prayed this morning, got of my pity potty and did something to get the hurt and anger out... I took my B12/Lipo yesterday, so definitely had the energy to do something yesterday but didn't. So I finally picked myself up today, shook the dust off and.......

Check this out!!
Jogged at 3.4mph for 25 minutes of my 45 minute Zebra Walker Workout (or ZWW as I will now call it LOL).
TOASTED a fat-laden 378 calories while doing it.

Good Saturday morning all,

Ro, I am so sorry for your difficult week.  I have been in the position of having to have a pet put down.  It was one of the hardest things I have every done.  He was just too faithful a friend to allow to let suffer any longer.  My sons were both still at home at that time and my daughter was away at college but home for the weekend.  My daughter went with me to the vet and when we got back home with him, the boys had dug a grave in the backyard.  They took really good care of their mama that day and I needed alot of tlc.  I lost my father to a malignant brain tumor so I truly thank God to hear that your son is a success story.  I will keep you in my prayers also as you deal with the loss of a friend.

Della, congratulation on the 2.7 lbs loss!  We did get a snow last night, but not what was predicted.  I woke up to around 3" with an additional 1-2 more to fall today.  We ended up getting more sleet than snow.  I woke up at midnight and could hear the sleet hitting the bedroom window.  Also, it was thundering !?!  My husband thought I was dreaming, but the weatherman was even talking about the thunder this morning.

Betty, you hate working out in the evening and I hate working out in the morning. I guess it doesn't matter when we exercise, just so long as we do it.  I fell very short in that department this week and only had a half pound loss to prove it.  I have noticed that, if I count my calories and put in at least a half hour workout in the afternoon, my weekly loss is usually 1 1/2 - 2 lbs.  When I watch my calories but have a lazy week, I am luck if I loose a half pound.  Sometimes I don't loose anything after a lazy week.  I can't blame anyone but myself when I stay on the couch.

phox, good to hear from you.  I don't see a thing wrong with loosing an extra 5 lbs in order to give yourself some wiggle room.  Congratulations on reaching your goal.

Have a great weekend everyone.    Cheryl

Hi everyone, Wow lots of activity here, that is great.

Welcome back phox50, I agree with Cheryl about the 5lbs.  Interesting to see about the logging of food and weight gain.  I stopped that last week and gained three pounds!!!  I do believe it is TTOM (I am craving chocolate and salt, something I never do) so I am planning to wait out the week and see what happens.

Ro, I am too very sorry for your loss and frustration with how the dog was left, it is unfortunate when people do not act the way they should.  We are going to have to put one of our cats to sleep also.  We found out last week she has cancerous tumors and they are growing rapidly.  She is not in any pain and is still eating but moving slow.  I do not want to have her be in pain but as long as she is not we will enjoy her company, very difficult.

Cheryl I agree with you about if we are not active we only have ourselves to blame.  I know I need to be more active, my typical day is mostly in front of the computer sitting like I am now...

Today, I showed houses this morning, came home ate, I am taking an online class to get my EcoBroker certification so I worked on that, (fortunately you can come and go as you wish).  And I worked out, IN THE AFTERNOON... I worked on my upper body exercises on the bowflex, six of them and did my sit-ups.  But am sitting again hmmmmmm...Raining like crazy here, at least it isn't snow!

Hubby and I are going out to dinner and the movies tonight whooo hooooo.  We do not go out really, we both are home bodies but every once in a while it is nice to do and we always have a wonderful time.  We will either see 10,000 bc or vantage point.  We plan to go to an early movie then dinner.  I will be good with what I eat, but will indulge in a glass or two of wine.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  Betty

Hi hope you do not mind if I join. I am not quit 47 but close. 45...with 2 boys age 10 and 8. Just joined this site about a month or so ago. I need all the support I can get. I workout pretty regular but find my eating terriable. That is my down fall. So that is what I need to concentrate on everyday. I need to lose about 50 pds but will be happy with 40...So my journey continues...slowly but surely:) Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome djmommy.  You'll find this group a wonderful support system.  Lots of good women full of support and genuine concern for you.  By the way I'm 46 with 3 kids two girls ages 22 and 14, one son age 16 and 1 brand new grandson 3 months of age.  I'm looking to lose a minimum of 32 pounds.

Ro: Way to go! Jogging 3.4 mph for 25 minutes is very impressive.  I'm glad you found the comfort you needed.

Cheryl: I try to work out Monday thru Saturday with Sunday off-but sometimes I take Saturday and Sunday off.  And usually the weeks I take off 2 days then I've noticed a bigger loss on the scale. . strange-but it works.

Betty: How was the night out?  We ended up staying home due to the stormy weather.  So we had steak, and salad and stayed within my calorie target range.  Maybe we'll have a date night next week.

Phox: Good to hear from you again. I am so looking forward to the day I can enter into maintance.  But I must confess I have no idea how that will work since I've been struggling with weight loss for about 35 years now.

Chat with everyone later-have a wondeful Sunday!

Della I think I spoke with you on another 40 site. Glad to see I am getting familiar with names.

We had 20 inches Fri and Sat. We also have been staying in. I am feeling a little blah. I have a cold I guess. So taking it easy. Dh keeps feeding me in bed. So sweet but I really was not hungry but ate anyway. Tonight I just want soup.

Hello to everyone.

djmommy: yes, I had joined the one in motivation-but I keep returning to this thread.  I love the ladies here and it's "home"

Hope the cold gets better soon.  Sounds like you have a wonderful and supportive DH.

Chat later. . Della

Hello All, Welcome djmommy.  love the time change it is 7pm and still light out, almost gardening time ladies whooo hooo...

Della, our night out was wonderful.  We went to an early movie at 4:30, we saw 10000bc. It was good, I was a little disappointed that there were not more special effects, that is why we choose that movie, but it was very predictable, although it was good.  Dinner was good, we wanted to go to the steak restaurant right by the cinemas but we couldn't get in almost 1 1/2 hour wait FORGET THAT.  So we ate at another place that was new and it was good.  I had white fish broiled with a salsa on it and shrimp it was very good, and a baked potato YES with butter and sour cream (but only a small amount), the veggies were just okay didn't finish them but had a salad and only one glass of wine.  So I stayed within my calorie amount.  Was a wonderful night, home by 9:00 asleep by 10:00.....hmmmmmm we are getting old!

Talk to you all during the week, it is another busy one for me, have a lot of showings, a conference in Boston "all day and into the night" on Wednesday.  Finished the first of three courses for my EcoBroker certification today... and guess what I got a %100 on the test... I can't believe it, not a test taker, very cool.  Hoping to have an afternoon for some much needed shopping (gift cert's. from Christmas) on Tuesday afternoon after appointments we will see.  Have a good night gals... Betty

Della...  not sure it was quite "comfort" that I found jogging because my groin muscle was screaming later on in the day LOL!!!  But I DID find inner peace... so I guess that was worth the pain.

I went to WalMart today and bought "Walking Away The Pounds" DVD.  It came with these round blue things that are weights that you fill with water (actually, they looked like what the Plastic Surgeon I used to work for would install to make bustlines bigger LOL!!!!).  Anyway......... will try it out tomorrow!!!

Good Morning Everyone!  It is a bright sunshiney day here on the Rock.  Cold as all get out-but the sun's a shining! Makes you happy even while the ice is forming on the window. . LOL

Betty: 100% and stayed within your caloie limit  * gold stars for you! And in bed by 10:00 I hear ya girl. . I love those "late" nights. LOL (joke) What exactly is a "EcoBroker"?

Ro: LOL-yeah the set I bought had the same weights.  When I tried to fill them with water all I succeeded in doing was spraying water all over myself. Ha Ha! The kids loved it--"Water Fight and I lost".  So I just use 3 pound weights I already owned.

Well I will check in with everyone later.  Have a great Monday Morning everyone.

Della

It's a long article but a good read.  Kind of explains "Mindful Thinking".  I got this in my email box this morning from, Monday Motivating Moments.

 Thoughts are Powerful"

It has been suggested that we have around 60,000 thoughts per day. That is an astonishing number. What is more astonishing is how many of those thoughts are self-defeating ones. How easy it is allow our train of thoughts jump from one track of thinking or subject to another.

How difficult it can be to stop an old mental tape from playing over and over again about a frustrating conversation that we had with someone at work or at home. We replay the mental tape until we are exhausted-and yet where have we found ourselves? In the same place we were before but now with wasted mental, physical and emotional energy. We have solved and resolved nothing.

Do our thoughts shape our lives? Albert Einstein believed so. He said "The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking." James Lane Allen, author of the book "As a Man Thinketh" states, "You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you."

How do we take control of our thoughts? How do we direct them from self-destructive thinking and behaviors to self-constructing thoughts and behaviors? By making a decision to do so and then committing to a thought controlling program, we can begin to take charge of our lives. After the decision and commitments have been made, we must implement a mindful state of being; that is living a life that is mindful of what we are thinking and what we are doing.

I recently realized the importance of living a mindful life because I decided that I wanted to live a more peace-filled life. I wanted to have more of a now presence and not a life of wondering. I wondered about where I had left things, I wondered how time passed by so quickly. I wondered why I could not remember things. I wondered why I did not seem to be enjoying the things and people around me more. I then wondered what I could do about it. It was then that I went on a mindfulness program.

When I eat, I am mindful of my food, the texture, the color and the taste. When I drive, I am mindful of what is going on around me without being lost in (mostly negative) thoughts. I have been amazed at how much more enjoyable life is when I am controlling my run away and non-productive thoughts by being mindful of what I am doing, where I am and extracting the joy that is omnipresent in my life.
