Reason: Moved to the Lounge forum since it's more appropriate (ongoing support thread). Thank you!
Hi...Im new but 30!!
Good Morning Ladies and Hello to Chris, Well, I turned 50 yesterday! I have truly been blessed. My husband and oldest son took me out for supper and we had a great time. I was teased all day long, all in good fun, and I enjoyed that too. At the office, we have five birthdays in five weeks. We had a party for one of my co-workers on Monday, so I suggested that we have my party next Tuesday (Everyone can't be there next Monday, including me) because two parties in one week is just too much. All of this celebrating is hard on the calorie counting but good for the spirit.
As for the WATP dvds, I personally find the 5 Mile dvd the most challenging & fun. You know its fast when you do 5 miles in about 65 minutes. 1 mile is a fast walk, 1 is fast walk and jog, 1 fast walk with walkbelt, 1 fast walk with stretchie band and 1 fast walk with weights. The Walk & Jog is a challenging aerobic workout too but doesn't engage the upper body as much. It is more about time than distance: 30 minutes long with 2 minute intervals of jogging interjected throughout. You really know you have worked out when you do all or part of either one.
I have enjoyed reading everyone's post. You are all so inspiring and it is wonderful to be in a group that truly understands and supports. Have a terrific weekend. Cheryl
Happy Birthday Cheryl............
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR CHERYL HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome Chris!!
Cheryl: Hmm shall have to check out the 5 mile walk-wonder if I'm in shape enough for it. .. . lol
Have a great one everyone!!!
Hello everyone.
It's Tuesday-not much going on in this corner of the world. Worked on our yard last night, raking dead grass and weeding the flower beds. Now we're just waiting for warmer days ahead.
My weight continues it's normal up and down fluctuations. BUT my pants and tops are getting way too big and loose. Always a happy thing.
Ro: I am thinking of giving the B12/Lipotropics a try. I'll let you know what I think of them.
Cheryl: Hope your birthday was a good one!
Betty: Are you settled back into your routine yet?
Take care everyone.
Della
Hi All,
Just finished my evening workout and shower and thought it would be a good time to check in. I want to thank everyone for your birthday wishes. I appreciate it. I had a wonderful birthday. I have already told you about my husband and oldest son taking me out to supper Friday evening, but haven't told you about Sunday at my Mom's. Both of my sons and my future daughter-in-law were there. My oldest son baked me a birthday cake and decorated it. He put 50 candles on it and by the time he lit the last one, the first ones were nothing but a puddle of wax. We all got a big kick out of that. It was a special day.
If any of you are interested, QVC is selling a 4 pack, booklet and stretchie band in the Walk Away the Pounds series. Mom doesn't shop anymore so she gave me money for my birthday and told me to get something I really want, so I ordered the set with part of it. I decided to get something I can really benefit from instead of just more clothes or jewelry.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week. Cheryl
Hey Cheryl:
Do you feel like at times we're the only two left? I sure do. So many days I come here and find no one has posted.
Our numbers are dwindling. Maybe we should start a new post under the motivation tab? I don't want to lose touch with you, Ro or Betty either. I've enjoyed the support and laughs I get from you ladies. *just an idea.
Della
Hello ladies, Welcome Chris,
Sorry Della, I have been so busy and not posting as I should :( Busy with work and getting testing done with all the issues I had with TOM, all my tests are coming back negative so it is just an age thing, woo hoo. Never thought I'd be happy about that hahaha...
I am sooooo busy with work, three new listings this week alone so much to do and trying to get outside to garden, it has been in the 70's this week and so beautiful, actually doing work now and wish I was outside yuck. My weight has also stayed around the same up and down, gained a little over vacation and lost that these past two weeks it was only about 4 lbs so not so bad. But I have had no time to get back in the swing of things and that bothers me I don't want to get out of the habit and feel like I am.
Cheryl I am so glad you enjoyed your birthday wow your son made your cake that is great, my daughter and I make each other cakes our birthday is 3 days apart. Next year I turn 50 and we are planning a vacation away with our closest friends, two couples we spend most of our time with. I don't need anything so I told my husband that would be a great gift for turning the big 50.
Well ladies I have to get back to work, hope you all have a wonderful night. Betty
Hi Della, Cheryl,
I posted some pictures that you can see in my gallery. I only did three it takes a long time to "upload" so I will add a couple more at a later time.
Betty
Good evening ladies,
Della, it does seem that we have dwindled down to just us four. I wonder what happened to the others who used to be regulars. I hope they just got busy and don't have time to write. It worries me to think that maybe they got discouraged and quit. The other night, I was making a post and my husband asked me what the big attraction is with this website. I told him how it keeps me honest and on track and about the support we give one another in our successes and failures and share our lives with each other. Even though none of us have met face to face, I think we all do truly care about each other.
Betty, thanks for sharing the pictures. You all looked like you were having a wonderful time and your daughter was beaming. I am glad that all of your tests are coming back okay. It is always a worry until the results come in.
Take care, all. Cheryl
Hi All,
I have been a member for a while but have not really participated much. I am 50 years old and went through a little scare when I found a lump in my breast, but Thank GOD it was not cancerous. So, now my goal is to make sure that I take better care of myself and get healthier. I started changing how I eat back in February and lost about 10 pounds, but I've regained about 5 of them, since I got distracted and stopped monitoring what I was eating. I'm back as of Monday, eating better, logging everything I eat, and trying to get into an exercise schedule that I can stick with. I have about 50 pounds to lose.
I live in New Jersey, work full-time, and have 5 kids from 29 to 16. My daughter, 16, is the only one who still lives at home. She also has a bit of a weight and cholesterol problem, so I want to set a good example, and get her engaged in a healthy eating and activity plan. My husband is also overweight and resistant to eating healthy foods, but I'm hoping that if he sees my success he will start to make an effort.
I look forward to chatting with everyone!
Hi All,
I'm back. It's been crazy for me lately. The weather's been up and down so whenever there's a nice day and it's not raining we're working outside trying to get the yard and deck ready for summer. I've also been busy getting ready for our annual fundraiser at the theater. It's this weekend, our "Fisher Widow's Cabaret show" We have a silent auction and show. This years theme is "Beach Party Bonaza". It's always a great time but a lot of work getting ready.
Anyway, things are moving along for me. I'm slowly dropping the pounds. As of today I'm down a total of 18 pounds. Whoo Hooo!!! The pants that were really tight are beginning to be baggy on me. I'm still working out 5 days a week and trying to mix it up. I've been meaning to get the walking DVD's. I think they'll be much kinder to my knees. The Biggest Loser DVD's are great only that there's a lot of squats and lunges and my knees are not handling them so well.
I've tried to catch up on what you've all been up to. I'm glad to see you're all doing well and hanging in there. You all do inspire me to stay on track. I'll try and be better about posting. Happy Belated birthday Cheryl.
Have a great weekend all! Becky
Hi ladies! How are you all today? Hope everyone is having a great day.
Betty: the pictures are so nice. YOU look GREAT! I can only dream of ever being your size! LOL Your daughter looks quite happy and very surprised. What a nice moment that must have been.
Cheryl: I feel the same way you do about this site. There's lots of time I sign in just to get info and other times just to see what everyone has to say. But having friends to chat with --who are going through similiar struggles--helps keep me on track.
Anniebean57: Welcome to our thread. You've come to a great group of ladies for support and friendship. I'm sure that must have been frightening. 5 kids? wow! I only have 3 kids. 2 girls 1 boy. The oldest is / will be 22 this year. Middle child is 16 and the youngest will turn 15 this year.
I seem to be retaining ALOT (6 pounds as of today) of water this week. Not sure what it's due to because I watch the sodium and add NO salt to anything I cook. It seems like when TTOM skips a month I retain the water for a very, very long time. It's like my body goes through the motions but never delivers. .? And the weight stays around until the cycle rights itself again. Does anyone else have this problem?
Anyway, I'll chat with everyone later on.
Take Care
Della
Hi, haven't posted in a while, but I'm still reading and enjoying your posts. Not much news- I've been maintaining pretty steadily. I started my diet last May, I weighed 165 with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I've been maintaining around 150 since February, blood pressure and cholesterol are in normal ranges. So, while there is no "news" I do feel like I'm running very hard (literally) to stay in the same place. I log food rarely but participate in exercise challenges on CC to keep me working hard. I think of starting to log to lose another 5 lb but it seems so hard, especially as I am watching and working out every day to maintain. The great news is that I spent a week in Italy, eating well and enjoying small portions of fantastic ice-cream and didn't gain anything. I did walk about 5 hours a day though!!
Hope someone finds this inspiring, not discouraging.
Hi All,
soooooo busy these days but promised myself I would be better about writing. I exercised this morning a real good one on the bow flex been a while, I felt like I was doing half exercises since coming home...
Della I go through the same thing you do with TOM, have all the other symptoms. Asked the doc about it and she says it is very normal. And thank you for the complement, as you know I am only about 5 lbs from my goal weight. Hope you will all keep me around when I do get there.
Helen definitely not discouraging, I bet Italy was wonderful. Becky 18 pounds fantastic... Welcome anniebean.
Well have to go back to work have a wonderful Mothers day everyone.
Betty
Hello Everyone,
Becky and Helen, it is great to hear from you. 150 lbs sounds wonderful to me, Helen. I got down to that weight about 23 years ago when all of my children were small (we had 3 babies in 3 1/2 years) because I didn't have time to eat or sit down. I haven't seen the scales that low since. Becky, 18 lbs is terrific! I bet you feel so much better. It sure sounds like you live a very active life, and good for you!
anniebean57, welcome to our group. I think the best thing we can do for our family is to set a good example. You can't be with your husband and daughter 24/7 and you can't police the food they put in their mouths anyway, but you can show them that they don't have to live an unhealthy lifestyle as well as the results of loosing weight. I am very thankful that your breast lump was benign.
Della, I did the same thing with the water retention this month myself. I did have my TOM but it was extremely lite compared to the usual and I didn't loose the water weight when it was over. I can always tell when it is TOM fluid gain because it is always just around my waist. As a doctor....Ahem....a 30 something year old doctor told me a couple of years ago, "As you approach your fifth decade, interesting things start to happen". I didn't know whether or laugh or go check myself into the local nursing home. Anyway, I weigh in tomorrow morning and don't feel at all optimistic.
Betty, did you find that it was harder to get back into the groove after two weeks off? When I have a few days off, it takes me time and effort to get my momentium back.
Have a great Mothers Day weekend, everyone, whether you are a mother or not. Cheryl
Happy Mothers Day to all! And, thanks all for the warm welcome to the group!
Yesterday my hubbie and daughter took me out to dinner for Mother's day to a BBQ restaurant (his surprise). My hubbie took over and ordered a "sampler" platter for 2 that included ribs, chicken, pork brisquet, corn on the cob, fries, beans cole slaw, and corn muffins. So, I had to be creative and figure out how to eat within my calorie allowance... I asked for a garden salad and by eating it first, I was able to curb my appetite a bit and not overeat too much on the rest. We also shared the platter meant for 2 between the 3 of us, which meant everyone had enough, but we took nothing home for leftovers. It was fun, but definitely challenging.
How does everyone "fit" exercise into their schedule? During the weekdays, I can't seem to find time because of work, etc., and on the weekends, I can't seem to make time because I am working in the yard or cleaning the house. I know its all exercise, but I am trying to figure out how to motivate myself and find time to do that hour of formal exercise every day. Yesterday, I finally started doing light calisthenics -- crunches, and upper body work. Today, I just got finished doing lower body exercises -- squats, lunges, leg lifts, etc. But, I don't ever seem to get in anything aerobic -- walking, etc. My weight has been static at about 180-185# for the last 2 months or so, and I know I need to up the activity in order to lose it... and tomorrow I go back to the "grind" of getting up at 5:30 to be out the door by 6:00 AM, and not return until about 7:00 PM just in time to get dinner ready for everyone... so I know even maintaining the little amount of exercise I've started will be difficult. Any suggestions would be helpful...
Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday and Happy Mother's Day!
Hi Betty,Cheryl and anniebean-Happy Mother's Day everyone.
Well today my family is treating me to burgers on the grill. I've balanced that with lots of salads and lite dressings.
My weigh in today is at 200-my weight is down from mid week when I was at 207. Still no TOM but all the symptoms that go with it.
Annie to answer your question about exercise well I use the Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone. It's an at home walking program that uses weights, or bands. You march or jog in place with the comforts of your own home. It is an awesome workout for me-the squats and lunges are just wayy to hard on my knees. Several of the other ladies here use the same program and seem just as pleased with it and the results as I am. But they will speak for themselves.
Going to lay low today and enjoy "my" day. Take care everyone! Talk with you on Monday.
Della
I was just reading back through some posts around Easter time, and I came across one from Ro (revins) that I thought was totally awesome ... So, I don't know if Ro still reads this or not, but I definitely want to say "Congratulations!" on achieving such outstanding results! More than 30 lbs lost and also much better BMI. I am starting out at about the same place as Ro -- about 189# in January, now down to about 182# and seem to be stuck there. But her story gives me inspiration that I can do it also!
Thanks Ro, for sharing!
Hello Everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful Mothers Day. Mine was great, beautiful day here in the 70's, spent most of it outside gardening or walking with hubby and then again with my sister. Hubby cooked for me all day and cleaned. It was a nice quiet and peaceful day.
Anniebean I understand as I am sure most of everyone does about fitting in exercise. I also use the Leslie Sansone walk away the pounds when I can, each one is a diffferent amount of time, and intensity.
One of the things you said "that you know cleaning and yard work is "all exercise" is something to remember. Since you can sometimes burn more while doing that than your formal exercise, plus you are "multi tasking".
Also you do not need to put in "one hour" if you have only 15 minutes you can do a short workout or sit ups or a short DVD "there are some" and you WILL benefit from that. I have on my treadmill set programs for 15, 20, and 30 minutes so it depends on how much time I have what I do. sometimes I work out for 10 minutes, since that is all I have. And in the warm months I opt for working outside over my treadmill/bowflex ANY day and know I am burning more calories by doing so.
Another thing you can do is go for a walk at lunch time or walk up and down the stairs at your office (if you have them), walk to were you eat lunch if you can. Dance to music while you make dinner. I guess what I am saying is you have to be creative and just move as much as posible throughout your day. It does not have to be formal exercise to make a difference nor does it need to be for a certain amount of time. The only exception to that is I have always read that for cardio you should do 20 minutes, however, I feel that every bit helps so if you only have 15 it WILL help you. I hope that I helped you and gave you some ideas.
Well everyone I hope you enjoy your day... Betty
