Reason: Moved to the Lounge forum since it's more appropriate (ongoing support thread). Thank you!
Another morning, the scales are creeping up. Hanukah is a 8 day holiday and I have 5 parties. Lots of fun but impossible not to eat and drink in the evening. I've lost 11 pounds since June, the loss is slow because I level out (or gain slightly) for weeks at a time. I joined CC two weeks ago to get the loss moving again. I lost the first week and then the holiday hit. I know an up week is a blip, but I needed to vent. Anyone else working on lowering salt intake? I started making my own curry powder--tastes great and has no salt like the prepared mixes in the supermarket.
Great group, thanks. Trisha
I know what you mean about the holidays. They are a diet buster. I try not to bake much or keep lots of sweets in the house - but all the social events are killers.
I am a bit disappointed about the scales myself. Yesterday when I weighed in it looked like I had lost 3 pounds in my first week. But this morning when I rechecked it was only one poound....all that work!!!!! for one pound. Hopefully I won't regain that pound today. Why does it have to be so hard now - when I was in my 30s it was so much easier.
Have a great day everyone.
Hello everyone, the holidays are tough... Here's some ideas, If you all have any cut and paste and add them in please.
- try eating something "good for you" and filling before you go to your party that way you will be full and will eat less of the not so good for you stuff.
- drink a glass of water between each glass of wine or drink... so you will drink less.
- Cut all your portions in half... if you want that piece of cheesecake "have it" but only have half of it. Instead of filling your glass of wine only put in 2/3's
- Park the farthest away to do a little extra walking during this time of the year
- Do 25 more sit-ups a day (takes about 2 minutes).
- Do just a little more exercise and that way if you eat a bit more or some of those things you shouldn't eat you will have worked off more calories to compensate for it.
- Only weight yourself once a week during this time esp. since our weight goes up and down on a daily basis anyway. Even though it is hard try not to concentrate on it as much over the next couple weeks.
Most of all don't be so tough on yourself it is after all "The Holiday Season" and we all deserve a break. Have a great day everyone. Betty
An article everyone needs to read about the scales -- I promise you it is worth and will help you keep your sanity
Hi, I just joined today. My name is Sue also.
I am 51 and would like to lose 20lbs by May 10, 2008. I lost 11 from June to September, but got off the diet and quit working out when I had to move and started going to school at night. I have gained all the pounds back but not all the inches, but close.
I'm not just really sure what the heck is going on... but I've had a migraine now for 2 solid days! I went to the Chiro and he adjusted me with a "new technique" that I personally stinks worse that a dead road-killed skunk! I haven't had a headache in several months, and now I can't get rid of it.
Good news is, I'm down another pound! I can see the 170 pound barrier being broken in the near future and I'm pumped!! I've been taking my B12Lipo pills faithfully and doing my walking and drinking my water, water, water LOL!! Hopefully I'll have my healthy habits strongly set in place by the time we visit relatives on the 19th!
It's been a little icey here but not as bad as some of the Mid West states! Wow!! Tulsa got plowed by it!
On a sad note, turns out we have connections with the really sad church shooting in Colorado Springs. The new pastor there, Brady Boyd, used to be one of our pastors a few years back before accepting the position in Colorado Springs. Funny thing is, the exact security measures that I thought were so "silly" such as all the volunteer security people walking around with walkie talkies.... are the exact thing that helped save hundreds of lives there at New Life... pretty much a numbing reality of how bad the world's getting. ![]()
Great Article Coach K, that really explains a lot and is definatley worth it . I really needed that and if you read my journal you will see why. Thanks!
Sue, its good to have you here, as always I will add you to my friends list, and if you want to add me that's that great. I'm sure the others feel the same way.
Rochelle, My husband gets migraines and his doc prescibed some medicine for him. I will find out what it is when I get home and post it.
Betty, thanks for the fantastic suggestions. I already put some of them into practice and it is a nice refresher.
Me, I'm maintaining my lost pounds (only 2) and working really hard to stay on track. With the Holidays, its hard and I will muddle thru the best I can. Mantra: No beating oneself up for falling off the wagon.
Hang in there everyone.
Theresa
My inlaws have moved in. They are getting too feeble to live on their own and there are no apartments (at this time) in our area.
Now mind you I do not object to their staying with us. My partner and I discussed it before hand and I completely support this decision. They will stay with us Dec, Jan and Feb then move in with another child for 3 months, so on, so on until the apartments here are ready. Hopefully sometime in 2008. After all they want to stay as independant as they possibly can. They are nice people and are good to my two kids. So no problems there.
Problem is we have 1 family room and as normal for elderly people this is where they stay. Every evening...I cannot do my exercises while they are in there and I do not want to be rude and chase them out. I have attempted to exercise in our bedroom but our floor is right above the family room. Imagine 200+ pound person exercising on the floor above you. . . LOL
So what to do. . . what to do. . Suggestions???
Hi Nanamoss, wow I admire you, it is great first of all that you are welcoming your in-laws into your home. As far as the working out above them do they hear you? as we get older our hearing is not so good so it may not even bother them. I understand about not going outside too cold here too.
I don't know what your schedule is... but is there any other time maybe early in the morning you could work out that they are not in there? or do you have a spare bedroom that isn't being used? I have my workout stuff "treadmill" etc in the spare bedroom set a tv up there and it works out good but I am lucky to have the extra room. Don't know if I helped you. Good luck Betty

Well... I have Imitrex and I took it both days mind you, and it didn't go away until sometime early this morning... it was horrible!!!
At least my scale still loves me LOL! I'm staying steady and that's fine with me until I get a little more stable with my stomach (migraines make me sooo sick).
How has your day been? Been keeping warm LOL! It's a heatwave here today... 35!! Wooo Hooo!! Bring out the Bermuda Shorts LOL!
Well, humanity (or at least part of it) has hit an all-time low in my book. We have those lighted deer (a buck, doe, and fawn) that we have in our front yard for our Christmas display. I get up today and find that someone has taken two of them and mounted one on the other... gross!
Hubby said "They sure need to take their Middle School Animal Science class over, if they even made it that far, because that ONE is a male" LOL.
Then my daughter goes around singing Christmas songs all day and sings "Angels We Have Heard On High" only instead of on the chorus singing "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" she sings "In a Sheltie's Stable".... poor kid. She knows Jesus was born in a stable, so.......... Oy ![]()
Good thing happened today, though....
I'm down 18 pounds, in 14 weeks but 4 of those weeks I wasn't taking any of my LipoB12 pills because of all my tests and junk going on... so I gues it was really in 10 weeks! Wow... I just realized that while I was typing this LOL!!
Makes the Reindeer incident kinda fade into the background! LOL
Hey Nanamoss, hows that cute little guy doing? Also, I think its a good thing you are doing for your in-laws. My grandmother ended up in a nursing home when I wasn't old enough to take her and she was more than miserable. You get my vote. As far as your exercise problem, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I live in an 2nd floor apartment and this too close to 200 lb bag of bones would shake the whole place. Thats why I have to go to the gym,(and will soon) but I know thats not a option for you. You say you do your excerises at night, any way you could do them earley. I am an early person, but I know not everyone is.
Yay! I got through the 8 nights of Hanukah with 6 parties and only a .5lb gain, and still down since Thanksgiving. The "nuisance" of loging in food and activities and good advice from other CC'ers really helped keep me on track.
Anyone else here focused on low-salt? Perhaps we could trade tips.
Thanks, Trisha
Hi Everyone -
Congratulations Phox 50 on making it through the holiday with such a small weight gain.
I am really trying to stay on track this holiday. My work had a huge district wide party with tons of food. I am so proooud of myself - since it is the first "party" of the season I tried to really watch it. All I ate were the veggies and stayed clear of all the pastry - cookies - and punch.....ughhh. It was hard -but I kept myself circulating and did not pick up a plate.....I am hoping I can keep up the restraint.
We are expecting a huge snowstorm in CT today - so I think I will make either Chili or soup for dinner - and try to stay out of the kitchen.
Have a good day
MJ
Good Morning everyone, Congrats Trisha and MJ on your party success, I have two on Friday. I will eat before the nighttime one but the day one is lunch at a resturant so we will see...
Soup sounds good for dinner MJ. I will think of you while I watch the storm. I fortunately was able to schedule all my appointments around it so I am home for the day. The good thing about being a Realtor...
Bad thing is I sit a lot at the computer...I found out this week after re-reading things that I am not as active as I thought I was and when I put in the change I only burn 1400 cals a day not the 1600 I thought (I actually think I am in between so I may be at 1500), makes things a lot harder though when you are trying to loose. So I have decided to try really hard to add 30 minutes to my workout to make it 1 hour a day. I have gotten good at the only eating 1200 cals a day but that doesn't leave much room to loose unless I really up my activity. Wish me luck girls....
Hey has anyone heard from Gardensue who started this group? Well have a good day everyone, and for all my fellow north-easterners be carefull driving today. Betty
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
