Reason: Moved to the Lounge forum since it's more appropriate (ongoing support thread). Thank you!
Good morning all,
Julie, thank you for the explanation of Della's daughter's condition. I wish I had you around last year when we were going through my daughter's pregnancy. We didn't know it at the time, but she was born with illiac (spelling?) vein syndrome and when she got into her fifth month, she developed a blood clot that started at her waist and went to her knee. It was touch and go from there but all ended well.
Della, it has to be so hard to be this far away from your daughter and grandchildren. I cannot imagine. Congratulations on the 7.6 lbs down. You are an inspiration. And, thanks for the info on the carbs. Like Julie, I tried to calculate my carb intake. It was amazing to me how many I consumed. I can put down 50g per meal easy.
Betty, hope your knee is still holding strong and the wedding & shower plans are moving smoothly.
I weighed in at 173.5 lbs this morning (12.39 stone). I am slowly getting down to my pre-gym weight. I hope this means I am adding muscle and burning more fat. That's the plan anyway. I don't go to the gym on Saturday, but today I am making an exception. I missed a day this week because of an out-of-town appointment, and I have decided to make it up instead of just letting it slide. I am afraid if I start letting myself miss here and there, then I'll find more excuses not to go. I know myself too well.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Cheryl
Good Morning Ladies!
How is everyone today? Everyone must be incredibly busy! The sun is shining here and I have flowers blooming in my flower beds! I'm so excited!
Cheryl: Yes, it is terrible being so far away from my daughter and her family. I am torn every day. My 2 youngest love it here and never want to move back to Oklahoma and my oldest does not want to move here. I have an excellent job and home. . but still my heart breaks.
Betty: How are you doing?
And Julie: How about you?
SB and low carb is still working (so far) for me. I've started phase 2 which slowly reintroduces carbs back into your diet. And I must say ladies I am really pleased with the food I eat, the amount of fruit and vegetables I'm able to have every day. I always feel satisfied and I'm not starving at bed time. And I'm still losing weight.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! Got to go-hope to hear from you all soon.
Della
Hello everyone,
Yes I have been quite busy - working and in the garden but have also been very lax in keeping up my 'calorie counting'. Not that I have gone back to stuffing my face, just laziness and having other things to do i guess !!
Della - do you get back to see your daughter and her family much, how far are you from Oklahoma? (Never been much up on anything but the most basic geography!) My boys all live locally and I would hate it if they were to move away but you never know what's around the corner I suppose.
Cheryl - I had never heard of that condition before so I looked it up. It's obviously not a condition peculiar to pregnancy but the pregnancy must have really exacerbated it, must have been a scary time for you all.
I have one night shift to do and then I have some annual leave. The way we can work our shifts means that from tomorrow morning I am off work until May 29th ! We are heading up to a place called Aviemore which is about 100 miles North West of Aberdeen and staying there for a week so I'll probably put on about 2 stone drinking wine and eating too much !!!
I think I'm going to take my lap top but dont know if I'll be able to access the internet so if you dont hear from me for a while it's cos I'm outwith technology service ![]()
Speak to you all soon

Hi Ladies,
Just making a quick check-in. Nothing new to report, still playing ping-pong with the same few pounds. Today is my daughter's 27th birthday. My grandson has tubes put in his ears this coming Thursday. He has had ear infections almost continuously for the last 3 months. Also on Thursday, I am taking a vacation day and taking my mom to her fiftysomething class reunion luncheon. Other than that, it is business as usual.
Hope everyone has a great week. Cheryl
Hello Ladies,
Oh it was so nice to read all your post. I am so glad all of you are doing well. I am sorry I was so busy and couldn't post. Congratulations Della and Cheryl on your new little addition (Della) and your weight loss!
I am doing well, knee is holding out very well actually, I am a bit surprised, I started a new job (since RE is slow) in my other profession Occupational Therapy, and I am now working per-diem at a nursing home in Rehab so I am on my legs the whole time and so far so good. I am working about 3 days a week and only about 4/5 hours I honestly don't think I could do more than that now it tires me out as it is. But the place is great and I like the other therapist and having some money coming is is well... always good. RE is starting to pick up now so all is good.
Had my daughters shower this weekend went well although it was one of our only cold days so had to put heaters in the tent it was in the 50's today is suppose to be in the 90's "go figure" but it was wonderful her bridesmaids did such a good job with games and everyone had a wonderful time... Glad it is over! LOL...
I unfortunately have gained more due to the knee and getting out of the habit of exercise. But have been doing a lot of work outside, and now being on my feet "running around" at work and along with getting back into a routine with exercise (well not yet) hoping it all will help. I have a goal though with the wedding just 5 weeks away want to look good in my dress.
Julie hope you have a great time away.
Well everyone have a wonderful day talk with you all soon.
Betty
Hi Everyone,
Betty, glad that your knee is holding up so well. Interesting to hear about your new job. My mother is a retired registered nurse. The last several years of her career, before retirement, were spent working in a nursing home. She called the patients her babies and dearly loved everyone of them. I think the real estate market is picking up here too. I don't see nearly the amount of signs that I used to.
My daughter and grandson were in over the weekend and we had a blast. The baby is 11 months old and walking everywhere. He sure is keeping all of us on our toes. He is such a happy baby too, laughs all the time. Of course, a lot of that is because I act so silly around him. My daughter says that my IQ drops whenever I am in his presence. Guilty as charged.
Have a good week. Cheryl
Good Morning Ladies,
Hope everyone is have as lovely a morning as we (finally) are. The sun is shining and my green house is all a bloom with plants. Can't wait till the soil is warm enough to start transplanting them.
My tulips have all budded and Mr. Moose decided they looked like a nice little snack. Well he nipped buds right off and pulled plants right out of the ground. How upset I was! My goodness! And after all that he decided he thought he could walk right through it! Hoof prints all over the place. Now anyone got a moose trap? LOL
Well I started phase 2 of the South Beach Diet and can report my weight continues to go down. I saw an Internist at the hospital yesterday who changed one of my medications and added another inhaler to assist with my asthma. He also told me the veins in my legs are not working properly and there isn't much they can do with that. (My mom and grandmother both had this problem)
So how is everyone else doing? Julie how was your holiday? Betty how's the gardening and wedding coming along?
Cheryl: What a blessing your daughter and grandson both for the weekend! How goes the gym classes?
Della
Hi everyone - Long lost me again! Spring and summer find me so busy! I have been doing well with my walking and eating less. Sooner or later I'll see a change! I think I will get out the gardening stuff today and get my flowers in. I should plant cactus since I always forget to water them - but I don't!
Found out my one horse has arthritis and a bone spur in his hock. My son will not be able to barrel race him anymore. I gave him to a friend of mine who is a vet. She had him xrayed and gave him a shot of steroids. We're hoping he will be able to do light trail riding for her. It was so hard watching my son give him up, 18 yrs old 6'3" and crying like a baby! But, we did what was best for Indy.
My daughter got her driver's license last week. She is so willing to run errands! And cleaned the truck, cleaned the car, took them to the car wash etc etc! Anything to drive! Now one more to worry about on the roads.
It was nice catching up with everyone. I love to hear about your lives!
Carla
Hi,
I just joined today. I am a 48 year old grandmother of 6, number 7 will be here in August. I've been married 30 years this month. Wow! Where did the time go? I still feel like a spring chicken:D So I'm glad to hook up with some class of @ '79ers! And we can do this thing together!
I put in my information and found out to my surprise that I need to lose 30 lbs! I will be happy with 20 though.
I've been on a 1400 calorie diet for a week now and onlly lost 1 lb:( but I think the chart said that I would lose 1 lb a week on 1400 calories so I am not getting discouraged. Nope nope.
I'm finding it's not too hard. I eat a lot of sugar free jello, fat free yogurt, and homace(sp?) with corn tortillas for snacks and I don't feel too deprived.
Well, This is a great website. I'm still navigating around and finding out what to do.
Sincerely, Debbie
Hello everyone,
Been back to work for well over a week now and it feels like I was never off! We had a very nice time in our little apartment up in Aviemore, the weather was mixed but it never stopped us doing anything - if I get time tonight I'll upload a couple of pictures of our lovely Scottish scenery ![]()
Ate and drank like a horse while I was away and haven't quite got back into the swing of things yet but I will ! Anyway one new item of news - I joined a gym so I'm looking forward to making use of their very scary looking machines and their swimming pool.
Hope everyone is well and you are all enjoying the beginning of summer - here's to a long and sunny one (not much hope of that here - Ha Ha
)
Hi Debbie - welcome to a very friendly little group and a very helpful website.
Cheers
Julie xx
Hi All,
Welcome, Debbie. I have an anniversary this month too...32 years. Good luck as you work toward a healthier life. We are all in the same boat here.
Julie, glad to have you back. I missed hearing from you. Congratulations on the gym membership. I am enjoying my thoroughly and it is really making a difference in the way I feel. The scale isn't showing any improvement, but my body sure is. I haven't gotten in the pool. The sight of me in a bathing suit would probably frighten small children.
Inspired by Della, I ordered a used copy of the South Beach diet book and SB food guide. I already halfway follow the plan, but plan to go full out. Maybe that will help me to loose weight again. I stopped loosing several months ago, except for the same few pounds that I have been batting back and forth.
Next week is vacation week. We are only planning a few day trips, which suits both my husband and me perfectly. We are a pair of old house cats. Still I am looking forward to a break.
Have a great week. Cheryl
Good Morning Ladies,
Welcome Debbie, Julie glad to hear your vacation was a good one. It is pouring rain here but knowing my plants will like it makes it okay. As long as it is not next weekend.
Della it is great that you finally have some flowers not so great about the moose ekkk...
Carla, I am so sorry to hear about your horse, I hope you will be able to get another one for your son.
I have been crazy busy with my daugther's wedding, one week to go I just can't believe she is getting married I keep having flash backs of when she was little hmmmmmm so long ago. But all is going well, I got everything I needed dress, shoes, etc. It is a little harder since we are going to the cape so we need to pack as well for the weekend and we have a cottage so we need to pack a bit of food as well. The resort has cottages around it so most of us got those. Even though we will be eating dinner out both nights breakfast, lunch will be in so it will be nice to be able to cook our own and I love to be able to have my coffee when I want to have it in the morning which is right away hahaha...
As far as my job Cheryl, long before I was a real estate agent I was an occupational therapist but I got burnt out which is why I changed kept my license though thank goodness. So with the market the way it is I picked up a per diem job. Work 3/4 days a week 4/5 hours a day. It is 5 minutes away from my house. Absolutely love the place great people. They are very flexable if I get up early I can go in early if I am running late doesn't matter as long as you see your patients. I usually go in at 7:00 so I am out before lunch and can then do real estate stuff, works out great. And my knee is holding up great I am careful but as long as I wear the pull on brace I am good.
I can't wait to hear more about the south beach and if it works for you also Cheryl.
Well ladies glad all is well, talk to you all after the wedding, I will post pictures. Betty
Hi Ladies and welcome Debbie,
Good to hear from everyone and to catch up with all the news.
Cheryl: I have found following the South Beach plan very easy. I really thought I would miss white potatoes and breads but surprisingly it was quiet easy. And watching the scale go down only gave me more inspiration to stick with it. With all the vegies and protiens it's really a way of life I can live with. I'll be glad to hear how it works for you. Hope you have lots of fun on your day trips. I love those too. It's always nice to get away but nothing like sleeping in your own bed.
Betty: wow, the wedding is right around the corner. Hard to believe how very fast the days are counting down. Looking forward to some pictures.
I saw my doctor last week and he has started me on Ramipril to see if that will help with my water retention. So far so good.
Julie: welcome back! You've been missed. Sounds like you had a good time and congrats on the gym membership. You and Cheryl will have the bikini bods in no time.
Been really busy with our gardening. We've got our vegetables planted and now watching them grown. We also are planning on building a shed this summer (after the green house turned out so well) I am beginning to believe I'm Tim the tool man! LOL
Well must go now. Will chat with everyone later.
Della
Off to the wedding...
How was the wedding???
Good Morning Ladies, Oh the wedding was wonderful. I couldn't believe it but the sun came out for that day only... this was a beach wedding with a cocktail hour on the lawn THEN inside and it rained well everyday, but Saturday morning the sun came out stayed out till after the cocktail hour when we went inside it started raining UNBELIEVABLE...
Everything was wonderful, weather, food, music, my Daugther "of course" couldn't have been more perfect. Will post some photos.
Now back to reality and work etc... hopefully some sun here soooooo tired of this gloomy weather.
Have a great day everyone. Betty
Good evening everyone,
Well Betty, it sounds wonderful. I know that you are tired. After my daughter's wedding, I collapsed for about four days. It is so much easier being the mother of the groom (done that twice).
Della, I agree that eating the South Beach way doesn't make you hungry. I started in earnest today. It took me that long to go thru the book and get my mind wrapped around the foods I can eat. I have been perfectly satisfied all day. Even went to the gym after work and did a some serious strength training and didn't get weak. This is definitely a plan I can live with. One exception though....I refuse to give up my morning cup of Cafe Vienna. That is about 130 empty calories but I make sure I work out that much harder during the day to make up for it. Guess I'm just a stubborn old girl.
Julie, I am very interested to hear how you like going to the gym.
Carla, I too hope that you and your family are recovering from the loss of your horse. To some people, pets are just pets, but to others, pets are family. The loss is so painful and we grieve like we would for any family member.
Debbie, I hope that everything is progressing well for you and that you find this site helpful.
Have a wonderful week. Cheryl
Good morning everyone,
00.10 here at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and all quiet on the western front !!
Hope you have recovered from your wonderful wedding Betty and how splendid that the sun shone for you all. I will never be 'mother of the bride' and by the sound of things, maybe thats not too much of problem if it's as tiring as you say
.
Not even remote indications of weddings here.
Now - This 'South Beach' thing, is it like 'Atkins' ? I have tried to look it up but unless you are going to buy the book none of the web sites give you much of an idea of what it entails.
I'm still being very bad and not logging my calories but I am going to the gym and enjoying it. Just sticking to cardio stuff just now, will maybe add in some weights stuff later on - planning on going there staight from work in the morning and then just powering through the rest of the day til bedtime (which will probably be about 7.30pm !!)
Weather here has been pretty good lately - warm and sunny. We're having a family BBQ on Sunday so no doubt the rain will make an appearance for that ![]()
Hope everyone is happy and healthy,
Love Julie xx
Hi Julie: Southbeach is similiar to Atkins in that it stresses more protien in your diet--BUT-- it stresses healthy lean meats, skinless chicken breasts as an example. Lots of fresh vegetables and Whole Grain items. NO processed flour or cereals. If you want to learn more there is a thread in the weight loss forum with lots and lots of information. (that is where I obtained a lot of info)
Cheryl: I'll be anxious to see how everything goes for you. I know I enjoy the meals and I have had really good results with getting off this plateua.
Betty: Are you recovered yet? How are your gardens this year?
Take care everyone!
Della

Do you recomend Hydroxycut?
