as usual great tips!! and Welcome to Tylerdavis and learning2diet. I've added you to my friends list and you are welcome to do the same if you want to. I think you will like it here. It fun to laugh and get great encouragement at the same time.
Nana!! you go girl ! Seems like you have taken the tiger by the tail and showed him a thing or two. Keep up the great work.
I had my work party friday and didn't do too bad at that one. Ate a banana and a piece of rye toast before I left, ordered, blackened tilapia, green beans and a salad and had 2 glassed red wine. Saturday was a different matter. I finally put up my Christmas decorations and did some deep cleaning cuz the in-laws come over next weekend ate breakfast at a restaurant H&C omlette with hash browns and rye toast. I only ate half of everything, but then I didn't have any lunch went to another party and had ribs, rye bread with promise and vegetable soup and cheese and crackers along with another 2 glasses of red wine. I only gained 1 lb and geez louise, what a relief. I'm a little bummed but thought that it would be so much worse. Today is going to be be better. And I'm planning for Wed at the gym.
Keep up the good work everyone!! Only 1 more week until the Holiday and I know we all will get thru it just dandy.
Hi Theresa,
I was wondering about peri menopause and weight gain. Since TTOM has become more irregular so has my weight. And on the months I either miss or am very late I seem to gain more water weight than usual. I notice it around my lower abdomen especially.
So I was wondering if this was normal or something I should be concerned about. If anyone else was or had experienced this?
I hope I have this right, I literally joined about 15 or so min. ago....and I'm 45, and have a gazillion pounds to lose....(about 70, actually-I'm 220...and I should be about 135-150 at the most).
I was looking up how many calories were in the Wawa muffin with egg, cheese, and bacon that I had for breakfast....great dieting, huh?..and figured, hey, why not join..can't hurt.
I am the worst dieter on planet Earth. I have a membership to a gym I NEVER use, I try to walk to work, and wind up hopping on the bus, I bring healthy food to work for snacking and wind up getting crap out of the machine (I work nights in a hospital-3 12's).....and my new doctor is gonna KILL me when she sees I made NO progress on my lifestyle change....I'm a hot mess.
I got this really cool diet journal....that's why I was looking up the calories of a Wawa muffin, haha....but so far it's neat. I don't think you can push anything on the site, and it makes sense....so....huum...I wonder if I can put it on my profile?
I figure if I write down all the crap I eat, I will be shocked into eating better. So far, it's not working.
I have to really get now. I was supposed to go to the store hours ago, but I'm lazy as all get out. I have to go holiday shopping and food shopping, yulk.
Hi Nana, I am experiencing the same thing you are. I get my period about every 2-3 months now. It seems even though I am not menstruating, I still go through the week like I am and see water and weight gain. My weight gain is all over but that is normal for me. Don't know if this has helped. If you are at all unsure though go get it checked out. Betty

Nana,
I don't know how much I can help you, I was in perimenomause when I started spotting every day for about 2 months. I brought this to my doc's attention several times before she finally she sent my for an ultrasound. They found a cyst the size of a football and that's why I had to have the hysterectomy. Before that, I wasn't paying attention to my weight because I only weighted 150 lbs. I gained all this weight after the surgery. That will be 3 years ago on Valentines day. I really hadn't starting missing periods when all that happened.
Sorry guys if I grossed you out, didn't mean to !

I want to add myself to the over 40 crowd. I've been on this site for about 10 days(?) and really like the functions and tools it provides. It is one of the first things I sign in on in the morning. But even though I began my own my account page - communication with the community has been REALLY quiet.
I've perused the community and although there are all kinds of reasons and things for why people are here, I've come to the assessment that a great deal of the members are in the 20 something crowd. So your invitation to comment was a welcomed one.
I'm 46 and I have an overall goal of 60 pounds - although 40 would get me into good territory too. Whoever is reading this is the first to hear me admit to that number "in public." Even though both number sound a bit daunting, I've done them before - it isn't losing the weight, it is keeping them off that is my issue. I'm taking a much slower approach than I did in year's past - I've even accepted the 14 month target date that the site's coach predicted my hitting my goal date.
Beyond weight, one of my questions is just what can the metabolism and muscle fibers of a 40+ year old do? Could be the swan song of the mid-life crisis for me, because part of my holy grail quest is to see if I can reverse aging and get into body shape of my 20's and 30's. Metabolically, I know I am stronger - I just want to get the visual to match the feel.
Maybe that is too much for the first intro - just wanted to let your mailbox be less empty than mine was.

Does anyone/everyone have seasonal weight issues? I have always gained in the winter and lost in the spring. The problem is that I usually lost a little less in the spring than I gained in the winter. I've lived in warm and cold climates and it has always happened. With CC's help I'm losing in the winter for the first time ever, yay!
A great article in the New York Times: As daylight wanes, millions begin to feel depressed, sluggish and socially withdrawn. They also tend to sleep more, eat more and have less sex. By spring or summer the symptoms abate, only to return the next autumn.
Once regarded skeptically by the experts, seasonal affective disorder, SAD for short, is now well established. Epidemiological studies estimate that its prevalence in the adult population ranges from 1.4 percent (Florida) to 9.7 percent (New Hampshire). http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/18/health/18mi nd.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
If the numbers above refer to sluggish and eating more, they seem low to me, (like maybe everyone on this list feels this way in January?) for full blown depression, they seem high. What do you guys think?
BTW, welcome Jubu.
Good Morning everyone, Welcome Jobu, I have added you as a buddy feel free to do the same. good luck with your goals you will like it in this forum.
Phox, living in the Northeast I have always found it is very normal to slow down in the winter and gain a little it is so hard to get out and do things the same way you do in the summer time. Since my mid to late thirties I too have gained more in the winter than I lost in the spring.
However, on the depression thing I do not know if the numbers are correct or not. I do know it seems that more and more people I talk to have some sort of depression. I think life is just harder in general and it takes it's toll on people. Everyone seems to be working and doing more and relaxing and enjoying life less... but I do live in CT and that is what I have heard about us "we are always in a hurry".
All I know is I can not wait till spring to work in my garden again. I am planning some changes this year to a major burm garden I have across my whole back yard it is about 75 feet long and boarders the woods of my neighbors. Plus we are putting in a garage right now so that means more garden area around that "More Garden" if that doesn't make you smile I don't know what will. Plus I get to garden in place of the treadmil! Well everyone have a wonderful day today. Betty
Good Morning everyone, Welcome Phoenix62. Would anyone like to share recipes? Something that is good for you but "good" I have two more parties next week and need to make things but want to be the one to bring the yummy but good for you food...Let me know. Have a great day everyone. Betty
Good Morning everyone! Hope your week is going great. We've got blue sky and sunshine here today! Makes a person feel glad to be alive!
Has anyone checked out the recipe link here on CC+ or the recipe analyzer?
I have and they are really great.
I saw 4 recipes for curry on this site. I just poured into a jar whatever spices I had on hand from any of the 4 recipes and made my own combo. It tastes fantastic. Feel free to improvise. I didn’t measure and used the measurements only as a suggested proportion. I didn’t grind any spices, just used powder from the supermarket spice jars.
hhttp://dinnercoop.cs.cmu.edu/dinnercoop/Recip es/karen/CurryPowder.html
1 oz cayenne pepper
2 oz ginger
8 oz coriander seeds(or powder)
8 oz turmeric
2 oz mustard seeds (or powder)
4 oz cumin
4 oz cinnamon
4 oz cloves
1 oz cardamon (or seeds)
Curry Cheese DipPut 1 tsp (or to taste) in a low-fat white cheese with thinly sliced scallions. I used a low-fat yogurt cheese. Surround dip with cut vegetables.
Here is a recipe for yogurt cheese. This is a really good substitute for cream cheese: Container plain yogurt. Place cheesecloth in colander set over a bowl or use a large coffee filter. Add the yogurt and let drain overnight in the refrigerator. The desired consistency is that of soft cream cheese.
Enjoy, phoxHere is an appetizer for you guys.....

Good morning everyone -- yippee - it's Saturday. Busy day today for me. My husband's kids are all here and my daughter is coming up tonight from Pittsburg.
I have a party tonight and I am so nervous about blowing all mt hard work. I have actually not managed to gain any weight so far in spite of all the work parties etc. I am trying to focus on the fact that missing a tempting morsel will not be worth the agravation of dieting one second longer than necessary. If I can just get to December 26---- thats only 3 days right!!!! I am tempted not to eat all day - but I know thats not the way to go. I think I will just focus tonight on the veggies and shrimp - And ask for wine in seltzer to cut it down a bit. I actually haven't had a glass of wine in about 10 days - and drank tea at the last party I went to
I also exercised everyday this week!! think that I am getting more stamina and trying to focus on other rewards besides food. Wish me luck and have a great day!!!

Good Morning!!!
We're having a blizzard here in the TX panhandle, so I'm mixing up a pot of poor-boy stew and keeping the bedwarm on 2 in case I need to jump in there for a quick warmup LOL!!! Funny thing is, when I had the extra weight on I wasn't quite as cold. Now that it's coming off I'm a little chilly LOL!!
We just got back from Christmas celebration with family out-of-state and I did sooo good!! I would take 1 small piece of fudge and just nibble at it and then suck on it like a lifesaver. By the time I got through with the one piece, my craving was satisfied! I managed to stay with making healthy eating choices and I came home and weighed in, and I'm (drumroll please.....) 169 pounds!!!!!!!!!!
I broke through the 70's!!!!!!!!!!
It's working!!! My new shipment of B12/Lipo will be here the day after Christmas so it'll be like another Christmas present for me!! LOL!! Oh......I gotta go change my Diet Ticker!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!
Congratulations Revins on breaking the 70s barrier! Great work.
There is a very interesting article in the NYT on calorie counting:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/20/health/nutr ition/20BEST.html?ref=fitnessandnutrition
Basically, they say calorie counting (calories in and calories burned) is inexact, you can't believe what a machine in the gym or a computer tells you, and every body reacts differently. I think that most people on this thread know that from experience, if only because losing weight is harder now than it was years ago.
So that is one more reason to listen to our bodies and not stress if we are 100 more calories here or there.
Enjoy the weekend and the holiday.
