I'll be back later.  I just want to signout for a while.  I didn't make my targeted weight for xmas, but I guess that's what a brand new year is for.  I wish all a wonderful holiday with rest, family and peace.

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays! I finally finished that afghan I was crocheting and my mother-in-law just loved it. All that work is so worth that kind of appreciation. And that means I was able to get my butt to the gym. Started with 10 minutes eliptical to warm up and walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes, just as a first day thing. I'm going to work up to alternating the eliptical and the treadmill along with 20 minutes of strength traing every other day. Thats my goal and I hoping writing it down will help.

I had to go after last nights party. We had it our house and everything we made was low fat, but we had many dishes because we did a Tappas dinner. I only ate small portions, but when I filled out my calories for yesterday, geez louise, it was over 2700. So I'm going to be correcting today and tomorrow and so far I've done ok today. I just have to get thru the party tonight, but I see what I could do better and will just have to do it.

How is everyone else coping with the holidays?

Take Care,

Theresa

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE, I hope you all had a great day yesterday.  Ours was only a bit hectic, but dinner in the late afternoon with our children was the best.  and very relaxing.  We decided to do the later time so they went everywhere else first, was so nice, no body was in a rush to get anywhere and we had a very relaxing morning just the two of us.

Smile CONGRATULATIONS Theresa for finishing the afghan and for going to the gym "good for you".   What is a "Tappas Dinner"?  I too am eating small portions but it is very hard with all the good food to not eat too much.  To compensate for it I have ate very low cal for my meals at home on the days I am going to a party knowing I will be eating more at the party and I decided not to log in the amounts on these days.  hard to know for sure when someone else makes the food and I don't want to know!!!   I thought I would work out more to compensate but wasn't able to but only missed yesterday for working out.   I do know I am standing a lot more at the parties so that has to help right hahaha.

I will start again today to log in what I eat and workout the way I always have and start new.  I have one more party on New Years Eve but we are having it so I can control what I make and know what the calories are to log in.  Have a great day everyone.  Betty

Hope everyone's holidays were fabulous!!

I actually did really, really well on the Calorie intake keeping it between 1200 and 1400.  My probelms came with water intake!  Why is it I can't keep up with the water??  It gets me so frustrated!!  Then I end up gaining a pound back because my body thinks it's not going to get any more water, so it holds onto every drop.  Jeepers!  You'd think I'd learn!

Well, if you're out there doing Christmas Returns or taking advantage of the sales... drive carefully!!

Hi Betty,

A Tapas is Spanish for "small plates" or appetizer portions, so instead of having a great big meal with way too much food all at once, we made several small plates and stretched it out over a 2 hour time period. That way everyone has a chance to digest and no one walks away with that bloated full feeling. It's a big thing here in Michigan and there are many restaurants that serve this kind of food with sometimes up to 40 choices some being as simple as an olive assortment to Ahi Tuna minced with veggies and olive oil. As always, there a good choices and not so good choices, but eating a resturant like this is easy to stay in line. The following is a the website for one of our favorite restaurants called Vicente. Their menu should give you a better idea of somethings that are offered. They also off full meal portions, but I have never tried those.

It's back to the gym today, Yea! I feel better about going and I know this will help in my effort to lose. I did gain 2 lbs over the holidays, no regrets though. I had a good time, and wouldn't change a thing.

My parties still aren't over though, I'm one of those people who have a birthday on Dec 27, and becuz growing up, it always seemed to be a forgotten day, my husband always makes it special for me. New years shouldn't be too bad, we always stay home, cook a nice dinner at home, and watch an old movie and have champagne at midnight.

Then it will be all over until next year. Yippe!

Happy New Year to all!

Theresa

HI Everyone - Hope everyone had a happy holiday! I had a fairly quiet one - children came and went and my daughter is still around for a couple more days so we have been getting to spend some alone time.  I didn't take any weight off - but I also think I only gained maybe a pound or two - I am anxious to get through the rest of the week without going off the deep end...there are so many goodies around.  My husband just went to play tennis and I am meeting him for a drink afterwards.  I tried to work out at home - but am so unmotivated.  I can't seem to stay motivated when I don't see any movement on the scale -- but I am determined to stick with this  site and everyone on this forum.  When I feel weak I read through your notes and think that at least we aren't all alone... Have a great evening.

MJ

Good Morning Everyone-hope the holidays have been great for everyone.  I hope you enjoyed your dinners, family and time together.  After all this is what life is all about.  Through the love and support from family and wonderful friends we are blessed.

Theresa,  the dinner sounds like a great idea-I may incorporate that into our holidays for next year.

I have not been able to work out since Sunday-too many activities and too many guests.  But I am still motivated and as soon as the holidays wind down-it's back into routine for me..

I am looking forward to 2008 as a new beginning-a new me-happier-healthier and stronger than ever.

Hi Theresa, I agree with Nanamoss the dinner sounds great, I too will try it. Thank you for explaining it to me.  I have started again to log in everything I eat and to exercise every morning again.  Well 6 days a week.  I stopped everything on Sunday until yesterday.  I am sticking to the not doing anything on Sunday, no weighing myself, no exercise, no logging in anything, but still eating well.

MJ you can do this don't give up, even if you gained a little you are better at loosing it now with this site and our support.  We are behind you and the holidays are almost over. Everyone needs a push every once and a while.... Everyone... so here is me pushing you... you can do this, you go girl.

I am with you Nanamoss, I am looking forward to 2008.  One more party to go.  Everybody have a good night.  Betty

Hi all!

Hey, we all made thru the Holidays and whether we fell down or stayed upright or somewhere in the middle, its a new year so lets put it all behind us and keep on trying.   That's what I plan to do, with no regrets for anything.

MJ just think of how motivated you will be WHEN you do lose.  I was just like you, geez, I've had and paid for a gym membership for 3 1/2 years.  I went gun-ho when I first started, but didn't lose anything after 5 months and blamed it all on the gym and stopped going.  Fact was I was eating and drinking what ever I wanted to and it turned out to be a wash.  Now I've started eating better and started back at the gym and because I finally saw that scale stay under 190 lbs (my start weight) for over 3 weeks, it really helped me to get going back to the gym, and honestly, I look forward to it and only hate it minorly.  So maybe if you gave it a good try and saw some loss, it would help you out.

I hope this helps and keep us up to date cuz we care!

Betty and Nana thanks for the compliment!  Tapas is so versitile, anything goes..

Take care everyone,

Theresa

Hi All - Thanks for the support everyone.  I have been really blowing it over the past two days with no exercise - but today is a new day.  I get into the thinking sometimes that - well I blew it already - so whats one more thing .....but..I am trying  hard not to keep that all or nothing attitude.  I am thinking about rejoining the gym to get into some classes though.  I feel like last time I really wasted my money - but 2008 will be a whole new beginning.  How many of you all  have gym memberships - and go regularly.  I have a treadmill and elliptical and weights in my basement but sometimes it seems too much to even go down there....but maybe a gym with an instructor will be more motivating.  What do you all do?  Have a great day.

Checking in again.  I'm glad that you all had such a nice holiday.  Mine was good.  I was a little anxious about vising my family but it worked out.  It's just those types of discomforts caused by passing comments made by family that you take personally as dings.  It may or may not be intended.  Sometimes, I feel like a 5 year old around my mother instead of my all of 43 years.

My family, dog and I are flying home today.  Laughing I love my home, my pond and the green belt behind my house.  I also enjoy planning my goals for the next year and clearing out clutter.

As far as the gym goes, I really try to go on my lunch hour. Since I've had trouble with consistency, I ask myself to do a minimum of 30 minutes of a class or on the equipment. I've found that by the next couple of days, I'm pushing another 10 minutes or just trying to hit an even # on the equipment which keeps me on the machine a little longer.  At home I go out run/walking.  I live in a very hilly area so it's pretty challenging.  If I don't quite feel up to that challenge, I drive to a school and go around the flat track.  If I don't feel up to jogging, I start by walking.  After around 5 minutes, I usually feel like I'm going to slow, so I start running the curves or the straight away and alternate with the walking.  Point is, (and I do have on one) on this rambling post is -- just get yourself out the door.  Start slow.  Just keep moving for a minimum amount of time.  Do it again the next day.  You can't help but build up time and enthusiasm. The rambling was as much for myself as for sharing my experiences with you all.   -  Let's make it a great year.  I'm behind you all.

Hi MJ,  I have tried the gym thing and do not like it but everyone is different.  I have a treadmill and bowflex in my spare room.  Since I work at home most of the time it is easy to get caught up in what I am doing and then the morning goes right by and I have appointments or make excuses, I do not like to exercise in the afternoon.  So I have started to schedule it into my morning, I mean really put it on my schedule.  (I use my yahoo, so it emails me my schedule every morning).

By 7:30 no matter what I am doing I stop and go exercise just like it is an appointment.  By this time I have already been up had my first cup of coffee and sometime small to eat and working for 1 1/2 hours so it is time for a break anyway.  It has helped me a lot and I am much better about it since I started doing this.  I also have a TV in my room and with TiVo I watch the tapped shows I never have time to watch while I am working out makes it much more enjoyable.

Hasta I am glad your holiday turned out better than you thought it would...  I agree with you about just doing it no matter how short a time, I find when I am consistent I miss it if I skip a day.

Feeling better today so I did my Friday workout today both the treadmill and the bowflex, it is really nice outside today warm so I plan to go for a walk outside this afternoon that will give me my Saturday workout, I love sunny days it gets you motivated.  Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone,

I'm Maryanne and new to this. I have about 30 pounds to lose and so far I have managed to keep on a schedule (since Christmas Day). Unfortunately I have to go back to work on 1/2 so it will be harder to fit this in. I have made a "resolution" to focus on exercise and eating better because I just hate the way I feel. I have my bicycle on the trainer for the winter and have been riding 30 minutes a day. I am going to TRY to work out in the morning before work. We'll see..

I am glad you all made it through the holidays with good cheer. Happy New Year!!

Maryanne

Hi Maryanne,

And welcome to our group, if there is anything we can do for you, don't hesitate to ask. Sounds like you are off to a good start. This website has many tools to choose from, so make the best of it with those you feel will help.   Welcome again.

Saturday, I was shopping and being the Sale Nut that I am, I'm always looking for deals. I found this shirt that I absolutely fell in love with (and was on sale) but I could only find it in XL and I wear a 1X.  I bought it anyway and put it on a hanger in front of my mirror.  I decided that this will be my inspiration. To fit in that shirt and I'm going to do it.

MJ

As you know I belong to a gym, and haven't put it to very good use until now. I think that what you have at home should do the trick, but if it guidance you need than the gym is the place to go.  I go to Bally and they have several classes, from yoga, to kick boxing to stationary bike class (my hubby's favorite). My point is that if you feel that will help you GO FOR IT! just be wary of commiting to a long term obligation until you're are sure that's what you want to do.

Happy New all!

Take care,

Theresa
