New news on my gallbladder tests

Quote  |  Reply
I just found out that my Pipida scan (gallbladder function test) showed that the lower duct is only at 7% function.  Does this mean that I have gallbladder disease?  Will I have to have surgery to remove it?  I am at a loss here folks because I don't know what is coming next.  I have scheduled an appointment to see my GI next Wednesday.  I just want to feel better. :(

I'm sorry you're in so much pain.  I know exactly how you feel.  I had horrible pain with two of my pregnancies, and even got pancreatitis, which is when a gallstone gets stuck in your pancreas.  Trust me, you don't even want to go there.  I was jaundiced, which meant I itched all over, and it also hurt to breathe.  It sounds like you have gallstones and you'll be better off to get it out.  I had mine out and haven't had any problems since with pain or eating or gaining weight, other than of my own doing.  The surgery is simple and recovery is pretty uneventful too.

Good luck,
Becky
Those are questions that should have been answered by the person that gave you the results of the test.  No one should ever give you the results of a test and leave you guessing and worried about what the possible outcomes will be.  You need to speak to your doctor about those things.
It's not uncommon to give just the overall result of a test over the phone and then go into greater detail in the office.  The doctor will take into consideration the tst results, his exam, and your concerns into consideration.  Before your appointment (start now!) write out your questions and concerns.  If you are very symptomatic, a laparoscopic gall bladder removal may help.
