New Year's in NYC

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer, and my goal is to lose 130 pounds.  I've been battling this excess weight for about 10 years now (all varying amounts).  I wish I had taken this battle serious about 5 years ago when I only had about 60 pounds to lose!  Oh well, I will conquer!

Anyway, I've had a new inspiration to help me with my weight loss  journey (aside from my health of course)!  I am going to be spending 5 days in NYC with my brother (he lives there) and my sister.  I visit NYC every so often to visit my brother, and every time I visit I always plan on losing weight to enjoy the incredible shopping.  While I am able to find pieces at plus size stores or sections in department stores, it's never an enjoyable experience when you're overweight.  While I will still be quite overweight, I think the experience will be a bit more pleasant with 30 pounds off of me.  I'll definately be in need of a few new pieces of clothes as well.  And what better way to celebrate a weight loss than with a brand new year ahead!

Anyway, that is kind of a new inspiration for me.  Wish me luck!  What inspirations (aside from health) does anyone else have to share?

Hi Jennifer!

My name is Leah.  I need to lose 95 lbs myself.  My husband and I are going on a trip to Jamaica and I want to lose 15 before we go (its in 2 months).  My other big motivation is that my husband has been working out a lot and losing weight.  He is now only 10 pounds more than me! When he told me that, it really motivated me to get on track with losing the weight - no way to I want to weigh more than my husband (especially as I am shorter).

I am hoping that counting calories and working out more can do it for me.  I tried just working out, but wasn't losing any weight, which was really depressing and killed my motivation to hit the gym.  Especially when my husband was losing more weight even though he was eating more junk foods.

Hey Leah,

That's fantastic you've set the goal for yourself!  It's great being able to set smaller goals - 15 lbs. as opposed to the over 95 lbs.  I find it helps keep you motivated.  And going to Jamaica is definately a motivator.  What a trip I bet that will be.  I've had friends go down that way and loved it.  It makes such a difference in how you feel.  The first time I went to NYC as an overweight person was hard.  I didn't realize how much easier shopping was until I got fat.

I think it's great that your husband is making changes too.  You guys can have a buddy system.  So much easier with support at your side.  Maybe you can make a competition out of it?  Hehe.  It sucks though eh that men lose weight faster.  And they never seem to have to work hard.  Ugh.  What us women have to put up with and we can't even get ahead on that.

My goal right now is 30-40 pounds by New Years.  I know that 30 is definately doable if I eat right and exercise.  40 pounds is possible too as I have so much weight to lose that the first 80 pounds usually come off easy (or at least my friend who is a dietitian told me that - she better be right lol).  But if I can even lose 30 I will be stoked!  Even 20 for that matter!  But it's definately a motivator.  I think your 15 will be so attainable if you work at it.  Even 20!  That extra 5 will be icing on the cake (mmmmmmm cake).

Anyway, best of luck!  You'll do awesome.
