Recipe Ingredients for New Orleans-Style Black Beans and Rice

1 cup jasmine rice
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 cups chicken stock
1/2 small yellow onion
2 stalks celery
20 oz. canned black beans
2 dashes tabasco
1 pinch cayenne
1 pinch white pepper
1 pinch black pepper
1 pinch salt
1 dash worcestershire sauce
1 pinch gumbo file
1 pinch cumin

Recipe Directions for New Orleans-Style Black Beans and Rice

  1. heat oil in a small skillet

  2. dice onion and celery and saute until carmelized or "clear"

  3. meanwhile, in a medium pot, bring the chicken stock to a boil.

  4. add rice and carmelized vegetables to chicken stock and let boil for one minute. then, reduce heat to simmer and cover for 20 min.

  5. in another pot, bring heat to medium and add black beans. once the black beans have been heated, add spices and stir.

  6. voila!
