Hey all i'm brand new to c.c. and I have many questions and problems with myself that I thought you all could help me with.  First of all i'm only 15 and I know i know most of you are thinking i'm too young to have to worry but i've always had low self esteem and i never feel pretty. This year i am so ready to change that. Now that i've become older i'm starting to see everything i eat come up on my body and i really want to change my style of eating.  I am not looking to go lose 17lbs in a month or anything but it really is my ultimate goal to get down to 115 eventually(which i'm now at 133 and only 5ft 3in.)  I exercise every day but I never stop thinking about food and im constantly in the kitchen or finding a snack somewhere. I often binge then feel very discusted with myself then once i get over it i go do it again.  I didn't know if anyone had any links or just good advice to help me out before i have to go anywhere with my stick figure friends in a bathing suit this summer? Also are there other people my age out there who are in this situation?  I would like to know what are the healthiest foods that are still appetising, what would be my best option if i'm stuck at a fast food restraunt, and a really healthy eating schedule....if anyone has any answers for me please help me out : ) thanks a lot

Hi, trisha, I'm 16 but I don't neccessarily have the same problems. But I can suggest some food. Like if you're at a fast food place like MacDonalds, at least try and go for the veggie dish or something like it. Other at home healthy foods that taste good are fruits like oranges and bananas, maybe have a slice of whole wheat toast and get some light "I can't believe It's not butter!"

Mint tea, maybe with a little orange blossom honey when you find you stomach a little upset or before you attempt to reach for the junk food. Nuts and seeds are also good.

i am the exact same way im also a teenager im 5`1 and was 148 but i got down to 132 by exersize and eating right and cutting out bread and fast food like burger king and stuff. my goal weight is also 115 by the end of this summer . but binge eating has been taking a toll on me lately ill go in the kitchen after i eat a dinner and decide i want a bowl of cereal then ill eat that and then go back for seconds then i eat a special k bar & 100 calorie packs then i feel so gulity ill work out to burn it off . i think starting tommorw instead of binge eating on junk im going to eat veggies when im in the mood to eat because eating this is not worht sacrafisying my body if i want it to be 115 i hope this helps if u want ideas ill give u some

breakfast - a bowl of oatmeal with alittle bit of splenda about 150 ? or special k cereal with berries about 125

lunch in school - light and fite dannon yogurt 60 calories or a special k bar 90

when you come home . eat a sweet potato ( 170 calories) with no butter , or have your mom make you stir fry with chicken and pea pods and brocoli

dinner - eat something small like soup , salad , a smoothie a half a banana and 6 strawberries to make it and a fat free milk

and for US to stop binge eating we should eat carrots and celery and fruits

i hope this helps you
Hey, welcome to cc. I'm not a teen (I'm 24) but I still pretty much think and act like one =) so maybe I can offer you some advice.

First - it's a REALLY good thing that you're taking the time to exercise. Are you doing weights and cardio? Being active is important not just for looking good in a bathing suit, but for being healthy as well. When I was younger I didn't really go to the gym, but I played sports (basketball and volleyball) and danced (ballet and jazz). I didn't realize at the time how much it would help me in the future.

For binge eating, I know there are some informative sites out there, if you search for them, make sure they're though the Canadiana/American Medical Association, or other official sites. You can always talk to your doctor too, they will give you the best advice since they know you and your health history.

As for eating healthy and meal plans - it's tough at first, but you'll get the hang of it. The hardest part is eating out at restaurants or fast food places. You can't avoid it, so the best thing to do is educate yourself. Do some research online and find out the nutritional value of different foods. I think most fast food places post the nutritional information on their websites. One thing that I have found is that you can make anything "healthier" by avoiding dips, sauces, and dressings. Most of them are extremely high in fat.

Well this is a really long post but I hope it kinda helped.

=)

Well I'm a male 15 and 5ft. 6in. and I weighed about 170 at the end of November but am now done to around 148ish and I have the same probles as you have like low self esteem and stuff. I used to binge and then feel just awful but I have got that under control by if I relize that I am binging I just quit eating and go do something and then the next day just get back on the diet. Thats about all I did was pick myself up and continue on with the diet.

Regards and hope this helps.
All of you who have posted thanks so much and it helps me just to know there are people willing to help me out there. I'm going to try really hard for the next couple of months before summer and do as much research as i can. I'll keep you posted
Hello!

I'm a thirteen going on fourteen Singaporean.

We eat Chinese food here, so my diet is quite different from yours, besides that sandwich for breakfast.

I strongly strongly recommend wild rice. Low in calories, high in nutrients. Whenever you have rice, have wild rice. Besides, wild rice isn't very expensive in the States, is it? In Singapore it's ridiculously expensive but I still insist on eating it. (:

Have fun!
Hey! 17 here.

I used to eat whatever I wanted after school but I was still thin. Now I eat much healthier (I went vegetarian at the start of the school year) because I wanted to alter my eating style BEFORE I started to see a weight change.

But I think what turned me around is my new love for vegetables. I'm not saying to go outside and graze on grass. Try cooking vegetables different ways with different seasonings. A favorite after school snack of mine is sliced tomato with a dash of garlic salt microwaved for about a minute until kinda mushy, or toast them until a bit crispy. SO delicious, and I used to hate tomatoes with a freakin' PASSION.

Fruits are my favorite kinds of food. Just experiment with healthy food and I guarantee you'll find stuff that you like.

As for fast food, if you know you're going out ahead of time, browse through the food choices on CC! Just type in McDonalds or wherever you are going. Go for salad if you can, but beware; fried chicken and loaded salad dressing can add up to as much fat as a burger! So order it without chicken and dressing on the side.

Always love yourself because I'm sure you're an awesome, beautiful, unique girl. I wish you all the luck in the world, girl.
Hello,  I am 24 now, but I can relate to you; when I was a teen I used to binge badly... at the time, I didn't realize that it was because I was unhappy.... but my best friends were a year older than me and when they went to college, I binged every time I was home alone. I gained about 15lbs. my senior year in high school and then another 25 freshman year in college.  When I realized it was because I was unhappy, I changed my habits. (I came to this self-realization after I had my first knee surgery).  So, to change, I began finding things that made me happy.  And everytime I felt the urge to binge eat, I would instead pick something that made me happy (i.e. go for a walk, go shopping, etc).  I still have the urge to binge sometimes, but I try to pick "happy thoughts" i know it sounds corny, but if you find the REASON why you're binging, its easier to prevent it in the first place.

Being a teen is tough- they were the hardest years of my life.  But my best recommendation is to put together a list of things that you can do to make you happy that don't involve food.  Keep it with you all the time and try to do at least one of those things everyday!  Smile... because from experience I will tell you it gets better as you grow :)
Im 13(14 in 2 weeks) and also 5'3'', but i weigh 103.62

I actually binge sometimes too, and i over eat. on those days my calorie intake is at about 2000-2300 calories(!).
im a teen too...and we shouldnt be restricting our calories because we r still growing...im 17 and i need 2000 just to maintain my weight. so u guys are eating way to little.
sugarcake for your age and hieght that amount of calories shouldn't be considered a "binge". You should be eating at least that many calories everyday, and you definatley do not need to lose anymore wieght. I am 17 too, 18 soon and ornellanicole is right, at our ages you should not be ristricting calories! I have had experience with eating disorders, and sure being deadly skinny may be "in" right now... but it's not worth the health defects.

So if you are still a child and never want to grow up, get hips, boobs, ever have children, strong bones,a healthy heart & brain, or have hair.. (i am almost bald now from having an ed.. ) continue to starve yourself!

I'm sorry if i am offending anyone but i need to rant, i effing hate society right now!!!! I just went and saw the movie "Norbit" - although funny, the one main character made me want to light the damn movie theatre on fire. African women are naturaly curvy and beautiful and this woman was about 90 lbs and her thighs were about as wide as her wrists. And they showed her sipping water and nibbling on carrot sticks!! WHAT KIND OF MESSAGE IS THIS SENDING TO PEOPLE

Trisha - it looks like you are on the right track, and your goal weight sounds healthy. I have problems with binging too, but it helps if your not so hard on yourself. After a binge just take the time to calm down and think about it, then plan to make a healthier choice at the next meal. DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF AFTER A BINGE, because it will make things worse - your body will take control and the cycle will continue. Also, if you know you are going to binge, try to fill yourself up with fruits and veggies because this will lower the impact.

Some tasty healthy  foods:  Protein bars (instead of chocolate bars), homeade pizza using a wholewheat pita lowfat cheese and your favorite toppings,  a tbsp of peanut butter on apples carrots or celery, smoothies- blend skim milk or soy with favorite frozen fruit, fat free pudding cups, sugar free jelo

Just try to eliminate "white" carbs such as white bread, potatoes, white pasta. and go for whole grain and sweet potatoes. Limit fats like butter/margarine, fried foods. and keep your hunger under control by incorperating a serving of protien into every meal, wheater it be the milk in your cereal, some nuts, cheese, beans, or actual meat. and try to base your snacks around fruits and vegetables, rather than high fat sugary foods. and excersize is great just to stay healthy! i don't recomend focusing on calories but on healthy, whole foods.
i know people all say.....'we're exactly the same!'

but i actually AM exactly the same as you!

i'm 5'3, 133lbs and wanna get down to 115! and even weirder.......i always binge and always say i'll start tomorrow, but when i eat something bad i always break it and think i've broken it for the whole day so i might as well indulge. it's the worst thing but i'm tryna stop.

i don't think you should follow babyl's diet.....it's too little! i find if i eat less during the day i'll be more likely to binge at night. i usually do:
breakfast: low fat yoghurt or toast
recess: fruit
lunch: sandwich and low calorie snack (70-80cal)
arvo snack: low fat cheese - calcium is so important, never cut it
dinner: mums menu (usually fish/meat, veggies, rice/pasta/potatoes
then low fat ice cream sometimes for dessert

good luck!!! hopefully we can both reach 115

i dnt eat after exercising...nid to flatten my tummmy>..HELP

^ to you above me..

first off what kind of diet do u think ur doing? The eat only cocoa pebbles and grapefruit diet? Cause i surely never heard of it.. or of it working.

Cocoa pebbles is one of those cereals you should AVOID.

Clearly your not getting a right balance of proteins/carbs/and fat. Your diet is like all carbs. And lets face it, what person do you know ever said that they got sweet abs and a flat stomach by eating like that??? Certainly not anyone ive ever known.

Read through these boards to get an idea of what you SHOULD be doing because not to sound mean but your way way off.. no wonder why you are having trouble flattening out your stomach.

But yea its loaded with sugar, you don't need it.

Just try to eat healthy food. The obvious foods. Skinless chicken, vegetables, fruit, egg whites, shrimp, etc.
yeah were did you get the idea to only eat cocoa pebbles? lol.  Deffinetly stop doing that and follow what these other people are saying because there is way better things you could be doing that will acually work.  Good luck!
